I don't know how much I can stress the topic of the releasing of hacked Leopard betas, whether it be patchers or full iso/dmg files, in the long run (and in my opinion) all you are doing is hurting the development process. While it is nice that folks are starting to give credit where it is needed (and again, it is much appreciated), I cannot wait to see Apple release 10.5 final with extra security to lock us out.

What type of security am I talking about you might ask. How about locking down the OS to only work on GUID partitions (something that PCs cannot boot to)? Adding firmware checks to non-open source binaries? Integrating critical parts of the boot process into EFI? Adding CRC checks throughout the operating system (how about in the kernel)? These are just a few things that I can think of off the top of my head that Apple can do.

Now why am I frustrated about releasing these hacked DVD images? The images contain ever hack that was needed to get the system running on non-Apple hardware.

I would advise those who are releasing these files to keep this in mind, especially since we're getting down to the final month of testing and Apple hasn't pulled out any new security yet. On the other hand, I could be completely wrong and nothing will change from now to the final release.

From what I've read, the reason they released the patch was because it was too far down the dev process to go back and fix it.

Then again, who knows, they could probably fix it if they wanted to. I do agree. I wish they waited until right before the launch so Apple did not have time to patch it...

Good thing I don't have to worry about this since I sold my hack and bought an iMac. :)

I agree with Bikedude, But i would actually like to see them make it harder to run on normal pc's, then it would separate the men from the boys (referring to the "hackers" who have released these betas so far (which have all been shitty)), so to speak.

Why aren't you asking this to osx86scene who actually are responsible for this? I think it would be a more proper place to ask this question than here. Multiple member of this forum have stated their position towards this crap before. The reason for these release are obvious, getting the users of osx86 to somthing else than IM, the question is just, if they don't think it's somehow bad/stupid, well god will help them... maybe .. or not.
