Camera Error !!- All black, not working, please help

please someone help me wth this one.

just noticed that my camera on the iphone does not work anymore. i dont use it often, so i just noticed. i have done lots of software modding as well as changing the backcover to all black. i know i have probably not damaged the camera itself though, since its on the main assembly on the phone, which i didnt even touch when i changed the backcover. i did remove the cable connecting the cover from the assembly, but as far as i know i never even touched the camera components.

if i click camera, the black background umbrella comes up normally, but when it dissapears, its all black. no image. the folder button on the bottom left corner is active, pressing it takes me to camera roll images. However, the "take image" buttom on the bottom center is dead, cannot click it. if i tilt the phone, it changes position normally, but it does not respond to touch. shouldnt it turn blue when you click it, dont remember.....

im starting to think i have accidently deleted some png file in the camera folder or something, but what?? ohh yeah, if i go to camera roll, the "take image" in the bottom center is as dead as it was in camera mode. im thinking file missing, or permission invalid, help??? (once i accidently deleted info.png, in the weather.app folder. i misstook it for icon.png that i was going to change, what happend was that the I, as in add locations dissapeard weirdly, took me forever to figure out what it was)

howver, i have downloaded the stock files and replaced the whole app folder chmodding properly at 0755. i have even restored twice, but hte problem wont go away. Did i destroy it somehow in the back cover installation? if so why? and how?

i just ordered a replacement camera used from ifixit.com for around $50 dollar, it should be here in a few days. I can resend it back to them if i can figure out the oprobolem until then, might it be software related after all??

anyone have any ideas about this, please help me if you can.

The camera is connected to the main board on the top right (just above the white cable). Are you sure that you didn't accidentaly touched that connector? Because I had exactly the same symptom and had just to clip correctly to connector for the camera to work again.

hmm, maybe i did. Accidently that is....

When you say clip correctly to the connector, what do you mean exactly. making sure that the camera is attached to its connector on the main board? Do you recomend me taking it off completely, reattaching it?

On iFixit picture, the connector is in the yellow rectangle. It can be easily unclipped as their is a black protection over it. Just make sure everything is fine.

I had the same problem after I did the HW unlock and I realized I accidentally disconnected the camera flex cable connector. Just open the back cover and reconnect the cable and it will work fine.

I have exactly this problem, please tell me how you solved it?!?! I bought a 1.1.1 fresh out of the box and used the TIFF exploit to unlock it. i havent opened the phone or anything else that concerns the hardware..

Hi there, i have the same problem too - and did a s/w unlock on version 1.0.2

Is there any chance that while the phone was shipping that the hardware has come loose as in what has happened in the h/w unlock?

Or does anyone think this might be due to the unlock - would a restore do the business? is it worth the risk?

If anyone does have any advice I'd be very grateful.

same here... camera and photo wont work. BUT it works if I use iFlickr software...
weird. I'm freaking out now !:confused: :(

it really seems that is a software problem... the camera works well using iFlickr.
Can anyone try iflickr with his camera to be sure that it not only works with mine ?

Tried the flick app. didnt solve my problem. My camera has "come" alive like 2-3 times. it lasts until i restart it. sometimes it freezes. I have managed to take actual photos as well =). but most of the time its all black... :(
