No problems here, with or without the headphones I can hear (and others say they hear me) quite clearly.

Voice quality is good with the software unlock, however i find the voice volume way too low... I have the volume maxed but it is still too quiet, not sure if anyone else has this issue

Did you all take off the protective plastic that covers the ear piece?

Yes we did, I confirm low audio. I have two iPhones, one unlocked with anySIM and one not. The volume on the unlocked phone during a call is low.
Hard to hear people when I'm outside actually.
not good.

Anybody know how to fully reverse this, even if it means relocking the phone?
I want to restore to virgin iPhone firmware.

I did this. This actually one of the reasons that suppress the voice down. The voice quality is better now, but I'm still not 100% satisfied yet. Anyway, for people who has this problem with a brand new phone, remember to peel of the plastic cover.

inspite of peeling of the plastic cover, ear piece volume is low, i dont know whether this is due to unlocking or not, but I read somewhere that 1.1.1 addresses this issue.

on the road it is very difficult to hear the other person's voice.

There is a firmware-comparison for the iPhones at Youtube

Let's take this one step forward, has anyone noticed any voice quality differences on unlocked iPhones (IPSF) that were upgraded to 1.1.1. and then downgraded to FM 1.0.2 again?

I have made many calls since downgrading and I am now convinced that the sound is not the same as it was when I had the old BB. The sound is tinnier than it was previous and not as sharp.

Since I have had my phone I have spoken in excess of 19 hours and there is clearly a noticeable sound difference between FW 1.0.2 with BB 1.0.2 and BB 1.1.1 with FW 1.0.2 which I would not call an improvement.

It stands to reason that if the BB was updated during the 1.1.1. there's a very good reason for it and whilst it is no doubt compatible with 1.0.2, there are new things in it that might cause problems going forward. The questions is, is this anything to be concerned about and will this get worse as time goes on?

Any comments or experience with this?

One thing I have noticed with early-cracked 1.0.2 is that voice volume doesn't stay consistent - when I receive a call, I often have to ping the volume-up button to increase the volume... this setting doesn't stay between calls.

However once pinged up a few notches the volume and call clarity is excellent, well compared to my Treos (600, 650, 680). Perhaps I've been living in a shit hole for 5 years and have just hit mediocre-land... maybe eh? ;)

But my early-command-line-crack 1.0.2 is perfectly acceptable to me on voice call quality, I've been on the damn thing nearly all day today on business and it's been perfect. Including upgrading the voicemail in the afternoon to get the red-dot voicemail notification working under UK Vodafone, which required several long (20+ minutes) calls to Vodafone themselves, and my office is underground.

So the iPhone gets a thumbs up from me for voice call quality.
