Last thing I did this afternoon was watch a video podcast. The battery was running low so I put in into my bag and attended to something. A few hours later when I took out my phone it was off. I tried to turn it on but it would not. I didn't even get the message connect to power source.
Now having tried both the power adapter and the USB port and it won't turn on anymore.
Is this a job for the Apple Store? I'm not even in the US right now. :(

Just plug it in via power from the outlet and leave it alone for 8 hours. Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. You won't see anything in the first 10 mins. since the battery is completely drained...

Thanks I'll try. Its been in t he power outlet for about an hour and no go. Its about bedtime here to I'll leave it plugged in overnight. Tomorrow I should be able to force restart it somehow?
When you plugged it in, the charging indicater came out after 10 minutes?

My Phone was completely drained, couldn't even power on. But after a 10 mins I was curious to see if I could power back on (fearing my phone was broken)...and it did!

Mine doesn't. Which freaks me out. I'll leave it plugged in and hope for the best in the morning. Man. I feel so sad/worried right now.

S&%t, that's not good. If you can't even power on tomorrow morning, than yes head over to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. They might even give you a new one!!!
Tried switching power outlets?
Is there a power switch on the outlet itself?

It doesn't sound good at all. Too bad I'm not in the US. This will have to wait. I wonder how long it takes to replace. I think I'm passed the grace period for replacement. Shucks.

I (and LOTS of others) had a bad wall adapter. Apple replaced it. Try charging from the computer USB port. Make sure your computer does not go to sleep, since that shuts off USB power in most machines.

what kind of hack did you do to your iphone before this things happen??

I didn't hack it at all. I've been using the SuperSim with it. And also installed SSH. But that's about it and its been working fine ever since.
If I bring it into the Apple store, how long does it take for them to repair it? I might be in the US later this month. Can't believe what its going to be like for me till then. I've been down the whole day.

I suggest you replace the battery...or check it's voltage. If it's below 2.8V it must be replaced.
The iPhone and basically everything these days uses LiOn batteries which behaves a bit different from the old ones.
From wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery
"A stand-alone Li-ion cell must never be discharged below a certain voltage to avoid irreversible damage. Therefore all Li-ion battery systems are equipped with a circuit that shuts down the system when the battery is discharged below the predefined threshold.[5] It should thus be impossible to "deep discharge" the battery in a properly designed system during normal use. This is also one of the reasons Li-ion cells are rarely sold as such to consumers, but only as finished batteries designed to fit a particular system."
New iPhone battery?

guys... press the home key and the power button for a while (a long while).. i've had this problem before and it worked... If it powers on and seems to freeze at the apple screen. try one of two things... keep pressing the two buttons, it will power off and on again and hopefully give you the yellow triangle... connect to itunes... don not restore... power off again and power on.... the other scenario is that the yellow triangle doesn't come on... in which case also try plugging it into itunes and see if it will boot up...

Aight , I have some similar problem right here.
The phone is fine while it is connected to the power , but If I unplugg it , after 10 seconds in sleepmode it just wont come back any more, what Ive found as a solution (an ethereal one) is that if i keep pressing home and power button for 10 seconds it will restart , but after I leave it alone and it locks , the same will happend =(
The camera its not working either =(

Well, same problem over here. Used it last night til it was empty.
The next morning tried to recharge it... nothing... apple logos show's when on ac..
en it shuts off again. On usb it does nothing.
When i press the home and sleep buttun a long while, is see the restore mode image.
Also on this mode... it's not charging.
Think the lion is fully discharged. i will try to charge the battery with a slightly bigger voltage..... if that doesn't work i have to order a new battery pack..

Same issue occurred with an earlier phone I had. It powered down completely. Some contributing factors that might have contributed were that it was almost fully drained before I was loading some apps or doing a restore -- can't remember exactly. I do know that it had just come off of a coast-to-coast flight and the battery was low. Brought it to Apple... they worked on it in their backroom for 5 minutes or so. Then returned with a new replacement phone (but only after claiming I had hacked it). New one is good, and I keep it charged whenever I mod it. That was an interesting article about Lithium Ion batteries... thanks for that info Epatel.

that's a lot of iPhone going dead for no reasons - I wonder if some kind of tsb will be issued. Or at least an explanation on how to perhaps get it to power back up properly.

Hi, same problem happened to me weeks ago... i took the iPhone out of my pocket and it wouldn´t do anything. I really freaked. After I while I just pressed the 2 buttons at the same time for a seconds and it suddenly came back to life.
By the way, the time I unboxed my iPhone directly from the Apple Store, i took it out and it was already on. Is this normal? Anybody had the same experience?
