Today I tried this method on
http://www.jessecole.org/2008/06/25/mac-os-x-single-user-mode-password-reset/ to reset a mac password
he said " First, enter single user mode and mount the filesystem read/write.
mount -uw /
Then do this:
10.5
rm -Rf /var/db/dslocal
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

after entering rm/var/db/.AppleSetupDone an error was created
“Couldn’t find root user. Sleeping and trying again"
I tried resetting it but only apple logo and the spinning wheel would appear. I tried inserting Mac OS X Install Disc 1 into it but my mac won't boot from the disc. Is there anyway to reinstall my system from the disc by booting from it? or other way? anyone??? thanks!

If you're looking to reset your password, there's an easier way. Just insert your leopard disk, open password utility, and reset it.

Hold option on boot, and select the DvD.

First you should NEVER do something unless you know what your doing. By erasing "/var/db/dslocal" you have nuked your user database which means not only passwords but user accounts are toast as well. The other file is a safe file to nuke as just causes the setup wizard to appear again. Besides that you could have used the install disk method but I fear you might be too far gone at this point.
