It doesnt...I tried a while back. :) The video cable for 5G iPods plugs into headphone jack, utilizing an idea used by many video cameras. It's a jack similar to normal headphone, but there's 3 rings (connectors) instead of 2. They are audio left, audio right, and video. This corresponds to standard Composite video (the red, white, and yellow connectors).
For the iPhone, the 3rd ring is used for sending voice and music player commands from the Apple headset's microphone thingee to the device. So, it doesn't send out video.
The product linked above looks like it connects via the Dock Connector, so anything's possible there. :D You should be able to dock your video capable i[Device], and it will charge via USB/wall adapter and send video & audio via the component video and 2-channel audio cables. Good solution Apple.

I think it's safe to assume so since it connects via a dock connector, and it would be stupid to not allow iPhone to output video/audio like the iPod touch. I'm not 100% sure it'll work...more like 99.27% sure. May want to double check with an Apple rep. Try the Apple discussion boards.

iPhone icon has now been removed. There goes that. Now, someone needs to get the code from the Touch and transfer it to the iPhone.

In case anyone's intersted, it looks like the newly-released UK iPhones have TV Out. Hopefully, we'll be receiving the same in an upcoming software update.

now the real question is how crippled is the video output going to be? Are we going to be able to display youtube vids, that would be awesome.

Not sure, but the fact that it's a global preference as opposed to a per-app one is encouraging.

dont waste your money i dont think either cable can work.
I got the composite cable
It refuses to work with my iphone.
Came here expecting to find answers but looks like u guys are just as lost.
Hope somebody figures out how to crack this.
THe fact that its an apple cable with an apple phone should count for something.

Well I can completely see the iphone icon on that link so I guess that is should work, I donīt see why not. Though I find it expensive :D .

I don't see how it could possibly not work.
It works. I picked up a composite cable last week (more composite devices than components in my home/car haha).
I have only played with it using iTunes videos, but it works great and syncs up voice/picture beautifully.
For those griping about the $50 price tag: it's a SOLID cable (feels like high quality at least haha), includes a USB connector (on the cable... for charging while watching =)), and a USB power block.
I figured if I hated it I could always dump it on eBay for what I paid for it. An interesting side note to remember is that genuine Apple accessories have STUPID resale value, and that often mitigates the high initial cost.
Good stuff!

PS: I tried a cheapy retractable A/V cable with the dock style connector first. It worked about as well as I expected (it didn't). Not sure why either... I did read somewhere that once you use an original cable once you can use aftermarkets (it unlocks it or something/switches it on??), but that did not seem to be the case.

I agree cable works great. I was surprised at the relative smooth quality the videos became on a larger screen. Granted I don't have HD or anything - just an old Trinitron 32"...
