[Guide] Downgrade: iPhone 2G on 2.0 to 1.1.4 + total unlock - best tutorial! ;)

I tried the method below with my iphone using lebara kontant kort in norway - works beautifully. NB! dont use this with iphone 3G - the hack is on the way but not ready yet for the public.

1. install itunes 7.7
(this is to have the correct driver / files necessary)

2. uninstall itunes 7.7 with appzapper
(this will remove itunes 7.7 but not drivers)

3. open terminal and type:
sudo rm -R /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
(type in your admin password when requested)

4. install itunes 7.5 - get it from apple

5. reboot mac

6. rename itunes folder in music to itunesOld

7. start itunes - and click what u need - next etc. until u are in the app and have configured it like u want it. quit it.

8. plug in your iphone to the dock and the dock into the computer.
itunes helper will now start itunes again. After a little while u will get an error message saying u need a newer version of itunes - dont give a shit about this message - its bullshit ;) Just click ok.

9. Put iphone into DFU mode (the iphone WILL BE BLACK WHEN IN DFU !):
While your iphone is in the cradle - its dock - hold the home button on the bottom and the power button until the screen turns off - then count to 2 - (1 to 1.5 secs) - and let go of the powerbutton on the top of the iphone , but keep pressing home button until itunes reacts and asks you if you want to restore your iphone. The trick is to let go of the powerbutton before the apple logo would normally show.

DFU MODE INFO:
it does not take 10 seconds to get into DFU mode - people are full of shit!
hold powerbutton and home button:until black screen and in 1 second let go of the powerbutton (dont get to the apple logo and the iphone must be totally black with no graphics on it) but keep on pressing the home button until itunes tells you that u can restore your iphone - this takes some time - so dont worry - just keep on pressing the
home button on the bottom under the display and let go when itunes tells u that u may restore your iphone.

10. download iphone 1.1.4 firmware - but first turn off "open safe files after downloading" in the preferences so that the file dont decompress after download:

11. download pwnage tool version 1.1 on this page or any other place:

12. download the 3.9 and 4.6 boot loaders:

unpack this rar file - (get unrarX from macupdate.com)

13. Go back into itunes and option-click restore in the iphone tab - choose the iphone1,1_1.1.4.4A102_Restore.ipsw.zip file.
itunes will now extract this file and restore it onto your iphone.
When this completes - you will get an error 1015 which is a good sign.

14. Put your iphone in restore mode if its not allready:
turn off iphone- turn on with a tap on power while holding the home button - and hold the home button until itunes 7.5 tells u u need to restore your iphone.
Now u are in normal restore mode and not dfu like last time.
Restore iphone again! dont give a feck about itunes error code in the end.

15. quit itunes

16. start pwnage tool that u downloaded

17. hit browse .ipsw and find the 1.1.4 file u used in itunes.

18. hit ipwner:
after a little while your phone will start showing text - and quite a lot of text will show up after the iphone reboots. After a while its all done and the iphone is showing that u have to connect with itunes.

19. hit browse ipsw: choose the 1.1.4 file you used earlier via browse .ipsw button.
hit ipsw builder: you will now see a menu - general - custom packages etc...
turn on activate phone, enable baseband update , enable neuter bootloader, unlock baseband, and autodelete bootneuter.app.

20. hit ok and choose the 2 bootloader files from the .rar archive u downloaded earlier and hit ok again. pwnage tool will now ask you where to save the new custom restore file for your iphone. choose your home directory in my case its the house with aRt next to it ;)
Pwnage tool will now work until its created the new custom restore file.

21. quit pwange tool

22. open itunes (your iphone should still be in restore mode - showing connect to itunes picture).

23. option click on restore in the iphone tab (the alt key plus mouse key) - and choose the new custom restore file you created in pwnage tool. Your iphone will now finally be totally cracked, hacked and prepared to be a full working iphone that accepts any simcard, uses edge if u configure it, jailbroken etc ! All the goodies will now work. iTunes will ask you to name your iphone and start a syncing process - to put your contacts on the phone.
The phone will now show a pineapple instead of an apple.

24. enjoy your hacked iphone!!!!!

The problem I get is that itunes gives an error message saying 'itunes library cannot read because it was created by newer version'. what do i do?

jokatts: just rename your music library folder (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library) to iTunes Old or something like that and youll be good to go.

Alternatively you can look for a folder called Previous itunes libraries and replace the newer...

Just do it for downgrading and keep a copy of your new library so you can go back later to itunes 7.7 with your library intact.

For Windows...

Unistall iTunes 7.7, reboot
Rename iTunes folder to whatever (backup/etc)
Download and install iTunes 7.5
Download firmware 1.1.4 (modmyifone.com)
Download iLiberty + WinPwn(Optional) (modmyifone.com / winpwn.com)
Put the phone in DFU mode (connect phone to pc make sure its off, press and hold sleep + home button for EXACTLY 10 Seconds then release sleep button while still holding the home button the computer / itunes will the find the device in DFU mode... The phone screen WILL NOT COME ON ITS NORMAL!!!...
Now in iTunes hold the shift button click on restore browse to the folder where you downloaded 1.1.4 and restore...
After restore is done the phone might come back in Recovery Mode don't panic simply use iLiberty to boot it out of recovery mode. After that you can either use iLiberty to jailbreak or winpwn its up to you I use winpwn but thats just me. At any point if the phone returns to recovery mode just use iLiberty to kick it back out and double check what you did wrong... Thats it. I have done 100+ downgrades works just fine!!!

Everything worked perfectly for me until I got to post 19 where im supposed to use the ipsw builder, etc. When I did that step, I ended up with the itunes 1600 error. So I did the whole process again and after I pwned it in step 18, my iPhone then had the "waiting for activation" screen, so I just went and used iLiberty to jb/activate/unlock my phone.

I remember encountering that problem when I first tried downgrading my iPhone. If i remember correctly, I put my phone in DFU mode (step 9) and then that is when my phone popped up in iTunes 7.5.

Sadly, this method didn't work for me either. I originally tried making a guide using PwnageTool all the way but 1600 was my enemy. I also had to go the iliberty route to finish up and had to use kiphone to down the baseband. I've done this three times now successfully.

Hi, I have a 4gb 1.0.2 otb phone that does not want to go into DFU mode, after being 1.1.4 pwned, then upgraded to 2.0 by mistake.

I DO KNOW how to put an iphone into DFU mode, I have fixed several, etc. My whole family is on t-mobile and they all have iphones.

iTunes detects the phone in normal and recovery mode, but not in DFU mode, it goes to the black screen and it stays there without itunes detecting anything. The weird part is that usually when you have a working phone in DFU and you want to restart, you have to press power/home for SEVERAL seconds until it restarts.... this one doesnt, i just press power/home and it just turns back on, like if it was turning completely off instead of going into DFU.

Its the first time I heard of this, and Ive been working with iphones since the first anysim unlock, etc.

ok guys im new to using mac os. im trying to preform the 2.0 downgrade but everytime i download the firmware and unzip it it dosent do anything it just gives me more folders does anybody know how to open that kind of file if so could you please tell me because i have no clue thank you to whoever replies

Either use Firefox browser or amend Safari by going to Safari > Preferences > General and ensure there is no entry in "Open safe files after downloading"
