I was surprised to see that there were no SSH or Video Recording apps in the App Store. Hopefully SSH will come soon. I'm not sure how video recording is accomplished. Does it require unpublished APIs?

Anyone working on (or waiting approval) for an SSH or Video Recording app?

I would think that an SSH Client is more than able to be added to the app store, the server on the other hand, i wouldn't think would be able to... since the SDK doesn't allow for daemons/services.

Theres definately no SSH on AppStore. You cant access the file system.

No SSH Server in the appstore, forget about that.

But, yes, it will be nice to see an ssh CLIENT on the appstore, it doesn't run on background, just so users can connect to their own ssh-servers at home, work, etc.

Given that you can get java based SSH clients for other phones (where the java VM wont let you access the filesystem), I see no reason why you couldn't do the same thing with the iPhone SDK. The best answer if you cant find one (and you know some Objective C programming) is to write your own and ask apple for approval :)

I was not talking about a Terminal or SSH daemon. Just an SSH client. This does not violate the SDK rules. I have to believe there are people working on it.

I hope so, I use ssh to direct SMTP outgoing mail to my own remote server, so I can send on whatever network I find myself. I upgraded but forgot about the loss of ssh. I wanted Outlook which works like shit.

AOL IM stays running when closed if you set that option...

AOL IM doesn't actually keep running it just stays 'logged in'. That just means that you will show as online to other AOL users. But, you have no background connection. You will not get any kind of notification of new IMs (until the Notification Service is put online in September). I'm sure they put the setting in now in anticipation for the Notification Service.

Any news for an SSH client in AppStore? I'm just wondering because we have a complex VNC-client now, but no simple SSH-access yet. I'm pretty sure that a lot of users would also pay for it.

I contacted the people who make the VNC client, and they told me they have a pre-beta SSH client, but due to US cryptography export regulations they cannot release it... They said they are working with Apple to figure it out, but they don't seem too optimistic about it.

Another one for those lucky enough to buy (and pay) stuff @ App Store -- why Apple, why?!

http://www.jbrink.net/touchterm/index.html

TouchTerm is on sale now in the iTunes App Store for only $2.99 (USD)! Click here to visit the TouchTerm App Store page.

TouchTerm provides a great solution for anyone that requires secure, remote access on the go. TouchTerm is an SSH terminal application, with an intuitive interface that includes:

Version 2.0: Complete server, connection, and password management.
Version 2.0: RSA/DSA Key-based authentication and public key distribution via e-mail.
Rock-solid SSH implementation based on OpenSSL and OpenSSH.
Efficient screen rendering and buffering, which means: no lag in screen-based programs like top, vi, and emacs; and smooth viewing and scrolling through large amounts of output data.

Etc, etc, etc.
