Hi all,

I just finished setting up my iphone 3g. I did a restore from itunes to bring back my contacts, calender, so on.... afterwards I stated downloading apps off of appstore. It seems to download fine but everytime i click on any app (i.e. aim, ebay,....) it keeps returning to the home screen. do i have to software restore or is there a fix???

my iphone 3g.Could you clarify -- did you have a first-generation iPhone earlier, sync it with iTunes to make a backup, then buy a 3G iPhone, activated and then put that iTunes backup on it?

Or do you still have a non-3G, first-generation iPhone but you simply updated the firmware to 2.0 and then let iTunes put the backup back?

I had the same problem until the phone decided to crash and reboot. It's been fine since. So, if you run into apps crashing on open (or frequently) maybe it just needs to be rebooted. Sound familiar? That's right Windows Mobile. Way back when I was using Windows Mobile 5 it had gotten to the point of having to reboot every 2 or 3 days. I don't expect the iPhone to get that bad. I wouldn't be surprised if it never happens again. It could be a symptom of the number of people using the app store. Reports seem to indicate that apps are packaged for each download. With the current high volume maybe some of the packages get corrupted.

He is using a 3G iPhoneThat's what he says literally; I thought he might be careless in his formulation so I wanted to check. I find it hard to imagine that iTunes would take a user data/settings backup from a first-generation iPhone and put it on a brand new 3G one.

Anyway, the problem seems unrelated to the backup thing, judging from the other posts.
