The iPhone and the 3g version look the same from front. The back, is a different story.

I like the chrome finish on the iphone 1, but not that plasticky black part on the bottom.

I quite like the white finish on the 16gb iphone 3g, as it will match my macbook, but its likely to get scratched easily, and plastic feels cheap.

Overall: i would buy the 3g, coz i like to show off latest gadgets :D

Since I haven't seen the 3G iPhone in person, it is difficult to tell. However, I hope that the glossy plastic on the 3G iPhone will not make the phone slide out of our hands! The back of the original iPhone is very classy. I think that I would like a matte black back instead of a glossy black back on the 3G iPhone because the gloss makes it look a bit cheaper. Maybe a metallic black would also look more appealing. Hopefully it looks better up close. If not, I can always get a nice case for it, so it's not a big issue for me. I understand that a plastic back cover may also be necessary to improve reception due to all of the antennas on the iPhone. So far, I vote for the original iPhone, but I may change my mind once I see the 3G iPhone up close. Of course, I will purchase it anyway! I am already selling my 8GB iPhone and keeping my 16GB iPhone! :D
