View Full Version : [iPhone 3G] Steve Jobs released the new Payment Plan

Steve keynote to say that 3G iPhone was to make affordable is incorrect (Lie).
It was a the new verified monthly payment plan to ATT for the 3G iPhone. So ATT is basically like a Bank to make payment to your purchase of your 3G iPhone over a contract period of 2 years.

Steve thinks he covers his share holders ass.....

bullshit! Im starting to hate this. I mean i do hate mac for what theyre doing to microsoft but im getting anoyed by the whole ATT thing. Theyre trying to make the new 3g iphone as unhackable as possible...what if they are watching you through your own screen?! you hack it and get iCops at your door...gosh im starting not to want to get the new iphone. i need it on tmobile, with no problems with any legality or bills...and good internet.

wait, what?! you're saying that i have to pay a monthly fee for cellular service to be able to use the iphone?! man this is bull****!!! what kind of evil mastermind would do such a thing?! if steve had just sold the iphone without a mandatory contract we coulda just used the cellphone without having to pay a monthly fee! but nooooo. the nerve of some people. making you pay for service! the first gen iphone was twice as expensive but we were able to hack and unlock it and didnt have to pay a carrier for service. atleast not every month! that's just insane. plus, i dont think there's any other manufacturer out there that does this! i say we boycott until they give us monthly phone service for free.

As what i heard on the news before they release the first ihone.
Apple have contract with at&T. And AT&T already paid APPLE for being the only legit/authorize seller.
But AT&T get screwed with the first gen iphone, 'coz of those people can unlock the iphone. So in this situation to increase their sales and income , they lower the price of the phone and use the 3G as apart of it to increase the service charge.

Oh well... One thing you all forget is that the iPhone 3G is going to be sold in 70 countries. It's some 20+ carriers who will sell it and in 20+ countries it comes out on July 11th. Why is everyone so AT&T centered.

As Steve said, the price is the same everywhere ... $199 for the 8GB model. Now the pricing of the plans will vary depending on country. So Apple did make the iPhone 3G cheaper and if you look at the legal part, then you had to have a contract before and have to have a contract now.

The only way you can claim that the more affordable part was BS is if ALL 70 countries will bring it out at higher rate plans. If even one doesn't, then Steve was right.

It just might be that the americans got screwed this time around with AT&T while most of the world was screwed with the first gen being available only in 6 countries.

steve's rich. why cant he sign contracts with all other carriers, at least in US? What the f**k is his problem for doing this shit?! I mean he'll get more money because everyone will buy it - it will be on all carriers. And monthly fee?! BAH! We can make apps for the first iphone and just make it 3g and gps on our own. WTF!!!

BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!!!

What is this AT&T bashing lately?!?!?!?

You could buy the iPhone 3G at $199, stay one month and leave and pay $175 in ETF. That adds up to about the same as before the release of this model.

What I don't understand is why people are complaining about AT&T's 2yr contract, and $30 HSPDA (read: not slow EDGE speed) data plan:

1. If you have T-Mobile, why would you want a iPhone 3G if it won't be compatible with T-Mobile's 1700 Mhz 3G network.

2. If you have T-Mobile and want the iPhone 3G, then terminate your T-Mobile contract, pay your ETF, and port your number to AT&T. It costs just as much as you would have been willing to pay for the previous iPhone brand new.

3. If you have AT&T, what do you care to extend your contract for another 2 yrs, from the day you sign, if regardless you were not planning to leave AT&T...?

4. AT&T's $30 data plan is competitively priced (based on Verizon and Sprint's EVDO) for a higher speed service. You can't expect a HSPDA service up to 1.4Mbps to cost as much as a EDGE up to 236kbps. It's like expecting Dial-UP prices for broadband services.

5. AT&T's $30 data plan is applicable to all 3G phones, not just the iPhone...!

thats exactly what ive been trying to find out in the past few days. so it wont be compatible with it, are you sure?
I might as well just consider buying the FIRST gen iphone from ebay or somehting...IF I get enough money...because honestly, i cant switch so there's no way.
although, im still aiming for the new iphone - im thinking about buying it unlocked or buying it from ebay, getting it and unlocking it, then i just wont use the 3g internetz but ill just use the wifi..

so yeah.l tmobile would never find out as im just using the wifi. i want the gps and everything, and the iphone itself. thats my solution. what do you guys think?

thats exactly what ive been trying to find out in the past few days. so it wont be compatible with it, are you sure?

T-Mobile announced that their 3G deployment will be in the 1700 MHz band and 2100 MHz band. Most likely 1700 MHz will be used for uplink and 2100 MHz for downlink. The phone may require to be compatible with both bands to operate in T-Mobile USA...

AT&T's UMTS/HSDPA 3G band is 850, 1900, 2100 MHz.

LiTos: I still have a T-Mobile SIM that has an ETF of $100. If that is your case, and you really want the iPhone 3G, my suggestion is that you switch carriers; it will be much less expensive than buying a non subsidized iPhone or a grey market iPhone 3G.

Probable eBay scenario: iPhone 3G $199 + $175 AT&T ETF + $$$ reseller markup > switching carriers & porting your number & having real 3G performance.

well...first off i hate att, plus all the crazy monthly fee, second off im on a family plan and im a minor.
so yeah, switching is not an option for me.

I dont know why people keep asking why folks want a iphone 3g on tmobile even though they cant use 3g. Its simple, if you loved your first iphone with tmobile than you will love a better looking one, with a better battery, and updated features.

I won't ask, but I will tell you why IMHO it seems silly to upgrade to the iphone on T-mobile. Simply put, I will 95% of what the new phone will have when I upgrade my firmware to 2.0. Yes, I won't have "true GPS", slightly better battery life, a new profile-slightly better looking (I'm purposely omitting 3G since it's irrelevant for Tmobile users), but I won't be throwing away $500 on a new phone (I have the 16g) while my old one does 95% of what the new one will do.

For example, I have a 1 1/2 year old macbook pro 2.33. Yes I would like the newer macbook pro that has a 2.5g processor, multitouch, slightly nicer display, etc., but the incremental improvement is so slight that it doesn't make any sense for me to do that. Instead of buying a new Macbook pro for $2,500, I upgraded my hard disk and ram for about $150. I get most of the benefits without spending a fortune. Upgrading to the 2.0 firmware on the iphone seems get me most of what I want without any hassle.

That was "depend on what you want and not what you need".
Some people like (need) the new feature. Like the video conferencing, GPS that can help on their daily activity.
On the second one, they want the first gen iphone because they get more function and freedom rather than the new 2nd gen iphone

LiTos

Well put it like this: You didnt have the first iPhone but you just found out about it, and you found out that a new one is coming out. You can only afford the new one, but your only way to afford it is to obtain it for around $200 without the contract. Then you need to unlock it to use with TMobile because that's your carrier.
Thats my situation, and I'm fine without the new 3G network but the GPS will come in use as well as the iPhone itself. I'd buy the old one, but it just costs too damn much.

@ Litos... you seem to be missing the conception of stocks, and just talking for mere talk...

You are incorrect when you say "well if apple's customers buy more phones, more money for apple, and stocks go up" That is BS, it tells you nothing...

Apple has already made the phones, they can care less if you buy them or not... What counts is their inventory at the end of the month. They have to sell over a certain percentage in order for stock to rise, if they cell under that quota, their stock will drop. It has something to do with people purchasing the iphone (only a very small part), but that is not the main aspect and tells you nothing... Also, they have many more products than just iphone... So they def have to keep that quota.

My brother is stock broker, and works for the federal exchange in NY.

GPS GPS GPS GPS. Am I the only iphone owner that knows where he going LMAO!!!!!!

Well I own a 1st gen iPhone and there are two reasons I'm looking at the 3G one:

1. To go legit now that my carrier is officially getting the phone. I don't really want to hack it, only did it as it was the only way to get the phone.

2. GPS because I do have a hobby of nature photography and while in a swamp it is useful to get your bearings straight and continue on-track. I couldn't care less for the GPS in an urban setting, but in forest and swamps it is extremely useful. And why get a 3x more expensive GPS device when I can have it already integrated in the phone for the situations I need.

same, the GPS would be useful for me and my father.

Nope you're wrong. N95 is still the best compare to iphone.
I have both phones, N95 is still much more usefull because all function integrated on nokia phone is there and working.
unlike iphone (first gen) you have to hack it and still lack of other function that the nokiaN95 have. Even if the new iphone will come out with a GPS and video conferencing, N95 alrready have this. And the N95 best feature is the media. N95 have 5MP camera MP4 can be play and transfer directly, Radio and most of all Bluetooth that mostly are compatible to any audio device.

nah, its fat compared to iPhone's sexyness. doesnt have web apps, no touch screen while iphone is made up mostly of its screen and one button which i really love about it. Camera is suckish on iphone, but at least 3g has a better one but either way i dont need a really good camera. For me iphone is like perfect.

ako0o_ba
06-16-2008, 06:48 AM
its fat bcause its compact . they make it small and yet put most of the requested feature.

Ill give you and example:
You have a small coin purse, Do you think it will not look fat if you will put all your money/coins, some rings, collectible micro toys, spare watch battery, candies/bubble gum, headphone jack adaptor, rosary, toothpick small memo paper, receipt, spare house key and so on...
What it will look like? :p

Anyway we're already off topic. I'm just answering your off topic quote on chronic P

Let's not start another N95 vs. iPhone battle, we all know what N95 does... I could have bought N95 and have all these bells and whistles you're talking about...., and mind you, I love GPS, however, I bought the iPhone and am pretty happy with it with all its drawbacks that I was well aware of BEFORE I got it... I guess it's all about easy and fun of use, and sexiness vs. functionality pack at the end of the day.. And like someone noted in another thread about this, you don't use GPS or other N95's cool stuff ALL the time while you use iPhone's terrific multitouch screen ALL the time.... 'Nuff said! Oh, yes, and it is fat :)

ako0o_ba
06-16-2008, 09:01 AM
well iphone dont have keypads like others have
Its being use all the time same as the multitouch

Well that's your opinion but don't be one sided. Let's just accept it, Iphone is sexy fun and easy to use, But the functions it don't have make it worst. The reason some of the function of N95 cant be use is because the user is already overwhelm of what the device can give. You can't use all the function on the iphone at the same time too.
Lets just do the example of BLUETOOTH. Are you satisfy with it? A lot of iphone owner. Unlocked or not, they're not satisfied because they cant use their preffered bluetooth compatible device on iphone.

AGAIN we're OFF TOPIC, Lets go back to the "Jobs payment plan topic"

I had an N95 for 2 months, which i sold on ebay and then purchased the iphone. I absolutely hated the N95, had to charge it literally every 12 hours, and the GPS lasts for 4hours max.

for those who go on about 5MP camera: get a bloody digital camera.

not to mention they only supported like 2gigs of memory when first released 2 yrs ago(that you had to pay extra for- microSD, aNYONE?). and they DIDNT support the USs umts/hsdp. plus now that it DOES have 8gigs and support for the US hsdp it STILL wont support t-mos 3G (only ATTs so youd still be stuck like chuck on ATT if you wanted to use 3G) not to mention that they cost about $700-just a tad more than the iphone- plus they're uglier too.
