Ok I've been reading about the new iPhone since yesterday and I REALLY want to get it, it's perfect for me.
But I've heard that..
1) its only for AT&T and they wont let you out of the store without singing a contract...
2) on the original iphone you couldnt activate the iPod function without having your phone activated. Same with the 3G here?

So my question is, will I be able to buy the iPhone some how, then unlock it and use it for t-mobile? Will 3G network work? What about edge? And how will the t-mobile bills work, and what if they find out i'm using an iphone because ill be surfing the internet through it? I'm really confused about all of this, and i really want that phone. I cant wait till july 11th, but i need someone to clear this out for me.
I know they release it for tmobile in eastern european countries...i live in brooklyn NYC, which has a lot of tmobile in it. I cant switch because hellz no im not switchin to ATT for nothing and plus im a minor.
Thanks!

this is my plan: i pre order the phone online on ebay, i get the phone with no problems and i unlock it., i should work.
besides, tehre was nothing official taht youll be required to get a 2 yr plan when buying iphone 3g in a store.

Is this thread for real??...

The fucking phone is a month away. NO ONE has these answers yet because the phone was OBVIOUSLY just announced....

If you know nothing is OFFICIAL yet then why ask??...

its true but who knows.
plus maybe someone would confirm that my kind of plan is possible, and i think its a good idea if they really are not gona let you out of att OR apple store without a contract.

It is actually quite simple:

T-mobile US -> 3G not compatible with iPhone
T-mobile non-US -> 3G compatible with iPhone

yeah...
that pisses me off.
like really...
makes me wanna kill stevie....URGH! He fails when it comes to marketing, seriously. Why would he sign a contract JUST with AT&T? Not many use it, especially in the US. Tmobile or Verizon would be a better choice, better yet, both. Plus ATT is evil, theyre trying to shut down the internet by 2012..

Awww...don't blame poor old Stevie because there is not many (if any) chips out there that support T-mobile US's odd ball 1700MHz on WCDMA radio technology used with 3G UMTS standard. This is not T-Mobile US's fault either because of the spectrum constraints.

By the way, Verizon uses an entire different technology to T-moble/AT&T's so unless Apple designs a new iPhone otherwise it is not possible to use it on Verizon..or Sprint.

You are stuck with AT&T if you want the 3G iphone. :D

As i said in one thread, Apple have contract with AT&T. Why? Because AT&T pays/bid more than the other. AT&T think that apple can help them increase the advertizing of the "new AT&T" and get a lot of sales. That's why they pay more.
Apple think it's worth it if they sell the legal authorization to AT&T.

Did anybody check exactly what components Apple is using to see if such components may have the 1700 Mhz and Apple is just not saying?
