Here is the deal. I have decided not to buy a iphone2.0 out right (due to its lack of features) unless i can make up the money in a short amout of time. I have someone who wants to buy my 1st gen 8gb iphone for 350$+. That amount is more then enough to buy a 3g 16gb iphone. What i really want to know is what you guys think should i upgrade and move on to a unhacked (for now) 3g iphone or stay in the game with a hackable one (the phone that got me in to the hack game). Sorry if my post seems lame, i just thought it would be important to get some others guys takes on my situation :o

Ditto here.
Ninjas should stay true to the game.. But then again, given your current location is the vague "some girls house" you may have a use for 3G's A-GPS feature ;) Seriously, man, if you need 3G speeds, GPS, chrome voice buttons, etc why not take it and go legit? And if an unlock is found, you'll be back in the game!

I will stick with my 1st gen.
I don't really need the 3G speed & the GPS. Who knows when the new phone will be unlockable ... may be your 1st gen will be priceless ...:-)

Don't Sell...
My predictions are:-
Your 1.0 iPhone can be sold $800 on ebay in August. The iphone supply is running out.
The 3G iPhone subsidized will sell at$1000 on ebay.

Sell your phone for $350 then buy another one from craigslist (I've seen some panicked sellers in my area selling their 8GB phones for $200-$250). Get the 3G when it comes out and keep your first gen as backup. Seriously, since when can you get a phone that does all the things and iPhone can do for $200-$250?!?

I'm planning on holding out too, mainly because of the price of the 3G data plan, but i've already changed my mind plenty of times and July 11th is a pretty far away.
Of course, I felt the same way about the original iPhone a year ago and somehow I ended up in line anyway, so I can only conclude that I don't have the willpower when it comes to these types of things. :D

I shall be moving onto the 3G iPhone, I got a text from o2 on tuesday saying if I upgrade my plan by £10 more per month I can have one for free, or if I stick with my current plan I can have one for £99, I'm guessing that they'll want my old one in return. I don't mind about waiting for it to be jailbroken, I'm a patient man.
EDIT: after looking at o2's website the 3G iPhone is the same price to new customers, so I'll have 2 iPhones, plus the 16GB is £159. Count me in for DAMN sure. :D

i'm keeping my first gen :iphone:. its nice that the new gen :iphone: has GPS and all kinds of other bells and whistles..but its bad enough as it is, i charge my :iphone: every two days ... just imagine if i was using it with GPS and taking advantage of 3G ... i'd be constantly charging it .... i love the :iphone: as it is with its hacking abilities. if i need GPS ... i'll buy a tom tom and keep my iphone for other useful things

I'm sticking with my 1Gen 16gb iphone. From my perspective the once the 2.0 firmware is installed on my 1Gen iphone it will have 95% of the what 2Gen iphone has.
I'm on T-mobile (US) and switching to ATT just to get 3G and "true" GPS doesn't make sense. In addition to raising their data plan $10/month, ATT now charges for all SMS messages. That will add another $60-100/year to the cost of using the phone on their network.
Would I like 3G? Yes. Is it worth an extra $180 + a year (120 data + SMS 60)? Not to me!

You guys in the states are getting a really rough deal, over here in the UK o2 are not changing the contract price at all, all I have to do is renew my 18 month contract.
So far I'm very happy with o2, they have possibly the best UK network anyway.

I personally will be upgrading, and here is why..
I'm expecting Fido here in Canada to be offering some sort of unlimited data plan, and from what they've told me, they'll be implementing some kind of IMEI tracking for the data usage. So, I will pass off my 1st gen iPhone to my wife to replace her aging Moto, and buy myself a new one.
I don't mind so much going legit this time, seeing as it's actually available in my country now, and I don't care so much about homebrew apps as I cared about unlocking it which isn't a big deal now.

yeah, in the state the plan will cost $10 more per month and on top of that, you have to pay additional cost/plan if you want text messaging ... I'm glad you have a good plan with o2.

I guess it's down to the fact we've had 3G for years and it's still pretty new to the states.

I really wish I had put a case on it, mine is now a little scratched up so I probably wont get as much on ebay if I decide to sell it.:(

I'll stick to the old one for a while.
I have already so it for $400. Waiting desperately for 3G. Expected it to be in stores by 11th June and not 11th July. :((

I'm prefer the old one for now. For one, I bought it about a month and a half ago. Also, I like the original's aluminium back, due to a personal fondness for metal cased gadgets. The jailbreaking, customizability and the ability unlock the phone without handing it over to some sleazy fellow in the street was an extra plus; I thank the Dev team and all the iPhone hacking community for that.
The 3G version looks OK, and has lots of nice bells and whistles which would be useful in the UK. In theory I wouldn't need an unlock too badly, since I prefer O2 anyway, however I don't like SIM locks on principle :P
I would wait until the 3G version has an jailbreak and unlock available for it.

I'm deff going to keep my 2g 16gb. I have way to much time invested in this one. But i'm also going to buy a 3g 16gb, i'll wait for an unlock. I have AT&T already so I don't really care about the activation process in the store.I'll just reactivate my 2g when I get home n' if needed i'll have them reactivate the 3g again. :D :hack:

What's the rush?
You know that the damn ATT 3g network will be overloaded and down for the next 2 months ( beginning 11th of July that is)
Do you really need 3G? How many hours a day to you actually sit starting at the screen of your iphone surfing the web? And if you are doing that....I got no words for you. The MOST i need my iphone for is to search a few things and maybe check a website for a couple of minutes. and if you do use the iphone for heavy website searching, its mostly likely youre within a wifi area..

3G was an add on to the iPhone but everybody was looking for GPS, Flash, Front Camera, MMS etc nothing was added except tighter security and fixed the hacks.
I am used to WiFi Browsing. 3G is something too crazy. Hacked TZones $5.99 Edge works well to get email and few minutes of browsing when on the fly. At home we all have WiFi and at work we are sure to connect to Wifi. I have a $49.99+ $5.99 famliy plan on Tmobile for 1000 minutes, huge savings....

Very true. I Only want to use the iphone to surf while travelling from my home to uni and back. On the Underground (UK), we don't get reception, so can't even use the phone.
For me, its just to show off that i have the latest gizmos :D
Sold iphone on ebay for £325, awaiting 3g iPhone
For 8Gb? Pretty nice! Next time take mine for $570 and make instant $60 ;)

i would say, ill wait for th iphone 3g before you sell your first gen.
iphone 3g wont be sold out on the first day. Same as the first gen rush.
As i remember this girl on the youtube that pay a guy on the front line for 500$ . So that she would not wait on the end lines  Then she found out that AT&T only allow 2 iphone to be sell on each person on that day. She's been ripped off

Why do you think she was ripped off? She paid a premium (~$70) to avoid the line..., that's it.. And I assume it was a 4Gb selling at $399 + tax back then...

I sold it 2 days before the £169 price was introduced. I get this randopm feeling where i put stuff for sale on ebay, and i make lot more than what i paid for it. Last year i purchased a PS3 (May2007 £380 from amazon.co.uk), then as i wasn't playing it i sold it on ebay. Got £400 for it as my model was discontinued :D.
I used that money to buy iphone, now sold that. I am waiting for my next investment.

Irrelevant? Excuse me, but that was you who misrepresented the whole thing, made two crucial corrections afterwards, and after all you call my post irrelevant? Man, from your pre-correction post it looked like the lady bought the phone for $500 from the guy, paying a little premium! You didn't bother to specify in your initial post that she actually bought the guy's SPOT in the line and NOT the phone itself! Get your facts straight next time right from the get-go, ok?

Jeesh calm down, he wasnt getting angry with you, you dont have to be up tight. Yeah I might sell mine, but I am not 100% sure yet. I want the 3G iPhone, but I dont know if I really want to add 2 years to my contract and I wont use GPS and I pretty much only use Internet at home, so 3G and GPS is pretty pointless. I personally think it looks pretty cool but I like the 2G iPhone about the same as the 3G. So I may sell my phone, for sure if I can get $440-$500, and possibly if I can get $350-$439. So I am kinda stumped. But if I could sell mine for like $450 then buy another for $200 or $250 then I could get the 3G too. Or I could buy one for $250ish then sell for $450ish. I dont know, I still have to think about it.
