First is it true o2 is giving free upgrades to 3G iPhone if you have a current 1st gen iphone already???

If so i have a 1st gen iPhone unlocked and jailbroken could i restore to activation screen then go to o2 and say i only got this as a present a few weeks ago (actually bought in april) and have not yet activated it, and get a free upgrade?

If you have an official iPhone on an official o2 iphone contract then the deal may apply. It doesn't if you do not have an o2 iphone contract already. They are simply not swapping out old iPhones for new one's as a gift to all of mankind.

Actually, on O2, all the new iPhones (3G) are going to be free anyways(depending on tariff), basically existing customers of the iPhone just get to upgrade their contracts but it renews the length of them, but we pay the same price as new customers.
