View Full Version : [Sim] 3G SIM on 1st Gen iPhone ?
If the original non 3G iPhone is upgraded with FW2, the same FW that is on the new 3G iPhone, will it accept a 3G SIM card but default to 2.5G???
I have a contract with a 3 Australia but had to get another SIM to use with the iPhone, hoping I can use it without the 3G speed but with my existing provider.

You wont be able to use the original Iphone on 3's network as it isnt a 3G capable device. The 3G funcationality in the new v2 firm won't have any affect on the first iphone.

if i understand you correctly, you're just asking if you can use a 3g sim in a 1st generation iphone right? you don't want the 3g?
the answer is yes you can. when i got my 1st generation iphone, it already had a 3g at&t sim card inside.
just make sure you have a regular 2.5G data plan with your existing provider.

Just to add to jumphopspin's post. I have a data plan for Germany's o2 that costs 10Euro/200MB/month. You can use it on GPRS/EDGE/UMTS. They send you a 3G simcard that works in recent iPhones and in the upcoming without any problem.
