Is there a special way to unlock the new 3G iphones? I have some potential clients with these to unlock.

None of the Dev Team, geohot etc have an 3G iPhone (they're not released)
So how can anynody know if they can be unlocked, unless someone here can predict the future!
Apple and AT&T may force buyers to activate instore so only time will tell.

:D

i believe in spain will be the same since the main reason for this is because the phone is subsidized and will cast the equivalent to $199 on the 70 countries.

I think the question should be "Is the new iPhone gonna have 4.6 BL?"
My guess is 99.99999% no.
Remember how long it took geohot to find a solution for the 1.1.2 OTB?
This one might not even be doable by software...who knows.

If the new iPhone is not available to buy without a contract, do you guys think that the *old* ones will keep their value?

Looking over at the macrumors.com website today, there is discussion that since the 3G iPhone is to be sold in the US at a subsidized price, one option is to buy the iPhone at the subsidized price, get the AT&T contract, and then cancel after 30 days, in which case you would pay the $200 termination fee. Your total price would be approximately what you would have paid for an unsubsidized iPhone.

(The site cites ATT internal memos as stating that if a customer cancels the contract less than 30 days after buying the phone then the phone has to be returned for a full refund. So the trick is buy, activate, hold for 30 days, and then cancel & pay the termination fee). For the 8GB iPhone, the subsidized price is $199, plus the $200 termination fee = $400 (or about the cost of an unsubsidized phone).

Now we just need to figure out how to faux activate and jailbreak these babies.

I am pretty sure Apple will change the terms or will have explicit conditions on returning an Iphone or cancelling the contract which will be more then $200 fore sure..

If you cancel your ATT contract and get to keep the iphone by paying ETF etc... shouldn't ATT / Apple officially unlock your phone so that it can be used with other carriers?

german iPhone 3G users can find the german tutorial for unlocking the 3G here (after a possibility is released!):
