Does the Dev Team have any boot loader exploits that's still kept a secret for the iPhone 2.0 release.
Please give us a hint ( Dev Team) how long it would take to unlock, forum members will try to solve the puzzle for the unlock date..........
Zibri is bluffing that he has already unlocked the modem, but i think the boot loader for OS and MODEM hack(downgrade /Pwned) will very much be needed for Unlock.
No one knows until the real devices are out there. We can assume Apple guys are no fools and everything will have to be done again from scratch.
Regarding the generic baseband unlock, it's a simple 4 bytes patch now - http://wikee.iphwn.org/sgold_bootrom:simple_unlock - so I guess zebra is leet enough to follow those guidelines, even if the ztringz to patch are not ascii

not to worry apple is smart enough to know that if it isn't for unlocked iphones they can kiss more than 30% of sales good bye and why in this world would they miss out on hundreds of millions? they'll MAKE SURE the phone has exploits and either way i can imagine how many sim solutions will be developed the moment it comes out.

That is the same assumption I had, Apple will/would start from scratch; however, I'm pretty sure Apple's code typing monkeys will make many mistakes, big enough I hope, to leave existing exploits open or even open new ones.
I also believe Apple will use the current code as a guideline for the new one, so they might accidently omit an exploit they don't know of yet and that hopefully will also give us access to all the iPhone goods.
As for Dr. Zoron, well he may bluff he unlocked the baseband for 2.0, but here is something he might not count on, a new bootloader might be released with this new 3G iPhone and a new baseband might introduced also. So Dr. Zoron can say and bluff all he wants, if Apple changes something he isn't expecting he'll be in deep shit.
Also we have the Almighty Dev Team behind us, so not to worry, that shinny new 3G iPhone will be unlocked.

The current unlocks rely on the hardware in the iPhone.
A new iPhone has a new modem and new hardware and so it will be a totally different proposition to unlock.
It will take a while for the devteam to unlock it - maybe even a few months.
It is unrealistic to expect an unlock any time soon after the new phone is released.

Not saying it will be unlocked immediately, just saying it will be unlocked [hopefully one way or another], notice I mention no timeframe. ;)
Almighty Dev Team never ceases to amaze me:cool:

Since the existing users will still be running the neutered bootloader, does this mean that the new firmware can be used once a jailbreak + activation method is discovered?

Unlock will be a bit harder, I can see a jailbreak no problem, because it's just one exploit and it is smooth sailing from there.
The big problem will be unlocking the 3G iPhone. Nobody knows yet what Baseband Bootloader 6.0 will have in stock, so I guess we will have to wait and see.

anyway I don't even need to unlock it cuz my carrier is gonna have it (rogers in canada)... hope that the jailbreak will come soon after the launch... *cross finger*

just as a side note: you guys dont realize that apple itself understood the locking the device to one carrier doesnt work... so they are taking more partners for unlocked iphone sales to many countries at once... either apple will have a good firmware in their device to protect different iphones entering differnt countries where it is locked originaly (which is unlikely coz of the nature of meaning unlocked) or apple will abondon totally the business model of cat and mouse... it doesnt help anyone in the long run, esp apple to reduce their creativity by adding more resources to blocking the device every single time device is unlocked... also bad reputation if they brick devices again and again... 2.5 cents..

i think that jailbreaking will be harder than ever because they will have to protect SDK & App Store official developers 3rd party apps. If there is a way of just SSHing them into a phone without paying apple and the developer for them (if it is shareware, which apple is encouraging), Apple will be in shit.

What I want to know, since I don't really plan to upgrade any time soon, is whether the 2.0 FW on 1st Gen iPhone will work on previously-pwned iPhones. (I'm in the UAE and there seem to be no plans to bring the iPhone here any time soon. Thanks Etisalat, you greedy bastards!)
