Well i was expecting this since Steve would not like a hardware (GPS) which cannot bring any revenue from iTunes. So GPS means battery life and more cost to the iphone. Steve always cared at his share holders.

IMHO, the next iPhone is going to be nothing more than just 3G and maybe 32gb. Maybe the size will change slightly but I wouldn't expect any surprises as far as the design goes.

The main problem I see with gps is that it can take minutes to get a signal, which would interfere with the iPhones smooth operation and user experience (priority number one for apple). The only way to overcome this would be to keep the gps on at all times, which is a great way to kill your battery unless apple designed their own super low power gps chipset. When apple first announced the iPhone, jobs said that 3G just wasn't ready yet. I think that the same could be said about gps today, and for many of the same reasons.
