The main reason I would switch to v2 is the integrated GPS feature...
I heard rumours that V2 will have a GPS inside, what you think guys ?
I don't care that much for 3G because I'm sure it will be expensive in my country, like edge is ...

It would be a HUGE mistake not to include GPS. It's standard in all new smartphones now and besides, the iPhone has the best screen to support it!

It seems likely since Core Location returns altitude when available. That isn't available from the current two positioning systems (wifi/cell).

If GPS was there then the firmware 2.0 Beta must have showup some interface during? Not a single beta tester has talked about GPS .
Hey, check this out -- the source says No GPS :( If that's true, I'm not switching! Damn it! Un-f**ckin-believable! :( http://iphonity.com/?q=node/23

Well, I'm not sure. I can remember the GPS-Modules for Palm-PDAs that hooked into the dock port. The only thing those units do is to pass lon and lat to the device. On Paln-PDAs we needed to load mapps to display. Thats already done and working on the iPhone.
I more guess apple will give more access using the docking connector and we will see GPs modules. So early adopters like us having "old" iPhones could enjoy GPS if needed. Those devices always hat their own batteries and did not suck the one of the device.
I guess 3G will be sucking enough if used, GPS added as a module.
Just my 2 cent

It might also be a Bluetooth GPS module :)

I'd love this one. That would be the best solution. Hopefully apple is going to de-cripple BT and make it possible

no france orange engineer will be able to test the iphone bevore apple released officially :D. this is bullshit.
but i also think like volkspost...
A GPS plugin module for the iphone is in the works and will be available soon, around the summer. It will work with the old iPhone and the new one as well (after it gets jailbroken of course).

Actually networks do get the phone in advance to ensure it will work on their networks. There are some settings that they might need to made, or feedback to phone manufacturer on what to put in firmware before release.

I heard from a friend that knows someone inside Telstra (in Australia) that they have the 3G iPhone for testing purposes.
Telstra haven't made an official announcement yet, but I heard that it will be available in a few weeks.
Telstra have a great network, but they are very expensive. I think that I will see if the iPhone will work on 3, myself, although would consider Telstra for coverage and data speed reasons.
Anyway, we will all find out soon enough if all this is true.

Indeed they do have 3G iPhones for testing purposes but these phones aren't the final ones. The new iPhone will have a GPS.
The new iPhone will have a GPS.
I wouldn't be so sure about this unless I worked for Apple...
