maybe its just the antenna that is not connected?

aarons6
08-31-2007, 01:57 PM
no i checked that, the wifi still works.

one of the antennas is bluetooth the other one is wi-fi/gsm.
unplugging the antennas makes wi-fi disconnect almost instantly.

Are you able to dial out?

I have unlocked my iphone using geohot method and showing my service provider name. If I take out the SIM and put it back, it will show NO SERVICE but still allows calls and sms. I will have reboot to refresh my service provider name. :)

is there any way to downgrade the firmware to 1.0 and start over from scratch?

are you using a mac?

Did you unlock with 1.02 already installed or just 1.0? If you unlocked with 1.0 then updated to 1.02, you undid the unlock. As for it saying no service, if you're sure it's unlocked i would recommend trying different sims.

I've been having similar issues with No Service even before the unlock. My iPhone was originally signed up on an AT&T GoPhone plan, and worked just fine within range of an AT&T tower. A few weeks ago I tried to roll back to v1.0 firmware to test something, and iTunes never succeeded in restoring the modem firmware portion of that process, hanging and/or failing. I eventually had to do a full restore on the iPhone back to v1.0.1 (at that time), and then eventually upgraded to v1.0.2.

Since that rollback attempt, however, the iPhone has not even worked with native AT&T GoPhone service, and now that I've been through the unlock procedure, I'm having the exact same problem with my Rogers SIM card.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

I'm experiencing "No Service" as well after a successful unlock, and am also using a Rogers SIM.

Also of note is that I had to use the endless reboot fix here: http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/endless_reboot

So I don't know if that was related to this "No Service" issue or not...?

Well, a bit more digging and I appear to have solved it, at least for my specific problem.... I can't be sure if this applies for anybody else....

I noticed that my EEP file version was off compared to some of the other information out there, so I grabbed the modem firmware's corresponding EEP file out of the firmware image (ICE3.14.08_G.eep in my case), uploaded it to the iPhone and then ran "bbupdater -e" with the EEP file name to update the EEP file properly.

As soon as I brought CommCenter back online, I had service, just like that.

I'm thinking in my case that the rollback and restore must have never properly updated the EEP file back to the 3.14.08 version.

I also have the No Service after unlock. I can't seem to find the EEP file you are talking about. Could you write out some instructions? Thanks!

The EEP file itself is buried within the iPhone restore image (as with the baseband firmware in the first place). You need to open the 009-7698-4.DMG file contained in the IPSW image (that you would have needed to possibly extract as part of the Jailbreak process, depending upon the application you used for this).

On a Mac, the DMG file is relatively easy to mount and there's a tutorial over at Hackthephone.net (http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/iphone_mounting_firmware_mac_74.html).

The file itself lives in /usr/local/standalone/firmware, once you've got the DMG mounted.

Unfortunately, I expect on Windows this might be a little trickier. I'm not sure about any issues around posting the EEP file, but the most helpful way to do this simply seems o be to attach it to this post, so click on the link below to download it if you're not feeling adventurous in trying it yourself (note that is for the baseband firmware found in 1.0.1 or 1.0.2).

Basically, once you've downloaded the EEP file, transfer it to your iPhone in /usr/bin (the same place where you put the FLS file of the same name), and then SSH into the iPhone and run the following command:

bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep

This should run bbupdater and update the EEP file into the iPhone. Note that if you're still using the v1.0 firmware on your iPhone, you'll need to get the ICE03.12.06_G.eep file and use that instead.

Both of the EEP files can be found at http://rapidshare.com/files/55123388/eepfiles.zip.html

I haven't been able to find any documentation on the dev wiki or anywhere else as to exactly what the EEP file's purpose is, so I'm flying a bit blind as to exactly what this does, but it seems logical that the EEP file version should match the FLS firmware that is used to flash the baseband, and in my case at least it restored service quite magically.

Perhaps somebody from the dev team could enlighten us to the specific purpose of this file, as I'm rather curious....

You need to activate the phone with the SIM card you are going to use. If you use iNdepedance generate a plist with the SIM card ICCID and the phone IMEI. Hopefully that works.

You will want to unload the comcenter prior to running that command you can do this by the following command:

launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

reflashed by using,

bbupdater -e ICExxxxx.eep

it works great.

I think the "no serivce" was caused by my mistake during my unlock process.

the brand new iphone firmware is 1.0.0, I didn't upgrade it to 1.0.2 and just start the process.

the AT+CLCK="PN",0,"00000000" was ok the first time. but baseband firmware has mismatch somewhere....so the phone is unlock and but no service.

everything is ok now.

thanks!

For those of you trying this method fix... You might want to try and reboot a few times.

What I did:

1) Noticed I got no service
2) Looked on here, unloaded the comm, checked minicom
3) Ran bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep
4) Turned off phone
5) Booted phone - still no service. Loaded comm again, still no service.
6) Unloaded comm, checked minicom (still got error), Loaded comm
7) Rebooted phone - AT&T & Service.

Looks like it may have been shaky if the comm wasn't loaded at boot? Anyway, just a suggestion to try before you go fooling with other things!

ok, got it to work... this is what i did for people that have the same problem and what to sold this. it worked as i made a call and it went through.

first, like someone mention here. aparently the eep wasnt loaded correctly and some point in the process and its why the incompatibility and resulting in the no service. This how ever is for the 1.02 and the ICE03.14.08_G.eep modem firmware. well, to solve this for those that are getting a code 10 in the bbupdater is to run this command on the SSH (assuming you know how to do this) (you runt this to stop the commcenter)
***Stop CommCentre:**
/bin/launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

once you have that... you go back and go to usr/bin and then you run this..
bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep

le it do its thing... some of you might get a message of an error and then it will work around and after a few seconds you will get a little message in the bottom that is done. Once the modem firmware is complete. you go back and activate the commcenter with the following command

***start comm centre***
/bin/launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

wait a couple of seconds... and boom! full signal. try a phone call and i bet you it will go through. If you have any more question feel free to send me a message. i will be more than happy to help anyone. as i couldnt find any help and had to dig and read all over the place to find the solution to this problem.

The problem that a number of people may now be having is that the GUI unlock tools that are now available (like AnySIM and IPSF et al), don't necessarily install the OpenSSH and BSD subsystem pieces.

The simplest way to deal with updating the EEP file if you find you need to do this is to go over to http://iphone.unlock.no and follow the manual instructions there. If you've already used another unlock method, follow the instructions around the "bbupdater" command, but use the EEP version that I mentioned above, rather than the FLS version of the command.

In short, if the phone is already otherwise unlocked, then you need to get the SSH pieces installed on it (tutorials at http://iphone.unlock.no and http://www.hacktheiphone.com will help with this), and then transfer the files found at http://iphone.unlock.no to the iPhone as instructed, but also include the EEP file which I attached in my earlier post last week. You don't need to run the minicom or any of the other commands again if you've already been through an unlock process, simply run the following three commands via SSH and you should be fine:

cd /bin
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep
launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Again, if you've already done the unlock using another method, don't worry about minicom or anything else, as these steps do not need to be repeated. To resolve this particular "No Service" issue, you only need to flash the EEP file.

Note also that if you're running the v1.0 iPhone firmware, you'll need to use the ICE_3.12.06_G.EEP file instead of the ICE_3.14.08_G.EEP file. Both are attached at the earlier link.

You need to install SSH on your iPhone, per the instructions in the tutorials at either http://iphone.unlock.no or http://www.hacktheiphone.com.

Once you've done this, you use a tool like Putty (on Windows) or SSH (on Mac OS X) to log in to your iPhone. The necessary instructions should be in the tutorials on either of those sites.

Go to iBrickr to install the "Installer" application, by clicking Applications → Browse applications button. You'll find "Installer" in the list.

Now you'll see a new icon called Installer on your iphone home screen, tap on it. It will connect to internet and download a list of available applications. First time you start it, it will probably find a new version of itself (Installer), tap on it then "Update" in the top right corner. When it's done updating, press the home button to exit and wait for it to refresh, then tap on Installer again. When installer is started again, install the following software in this order:

Community Sources
BSD Subsystem (might take some minutes)
OpenSSH

Step 3:Fix No Service issue:

Here is a summary of the solution...

Now it's time to log onto your phone via SSH from your computer, using an application called PuTTY (http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe) (or any other SSH client). In PuTTY, enter the IP-address you found previously in the "Host Name" field, and click Open button at bottom. If it's the first time, you will get a message you should click yes, and it will take some time to connect. Log in using username: root and password: dottie. Type the following commands (remember it's case sensitive!):

1. Download http://rapidshare.com/files/55123388/eepfiles.zip.html
2. Extract and upload ICE03.14.08_G.eep (for v1.02)
3. Upload file to /usr/bin/ with iBrickr
4. Open SSH connection
5. cd /usr/bin/
6. chmod +x bbupdater
7. launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
8. bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep
9. launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

You should have reception now, even without a reboot

Good Luck

I unlocked successfully and get signal but once I entered the building, office the signal is damn low (1 bar) or worse NO SERVICE. If i change the SIM card (prepaid T-Mobile) to my T-Mobile Nokia phone, it has signal (3 bars).
I try all methods suggested here but the signal strength is not improved. Anyone knows why?

AT&T may simply have towers and coverage in different areas than T-Mobile, and as the previous poster mentioned, the Nokia phone has better range, so it can pick up the more distant towers.

I have office buildings in downtown Toronto, for example, where I get virtually NO Rogers coverage on ANY phone, yet Bell works just fine. It all has to do with where the physical cellular towers are located, and each carrier has their own tower, generally, and therefore has them in different locations.

Chances are there's nothing wrong with your iPhone at all, and in a different building, you might find the reverse to be true (good T-Mobile coverage and no AT&T coverage).

thanks for all your replies. I hope it would not be a phone problem because I will go back to my country soon. I just use T-Mobile temporarily.

The thing makes me worried is that my friend gets signal with AT&T SIM card while I dont get signal with prepaid AT&T SIM card at the same place. The difference is that I use Prepaid AT&T and she uses AT&T Plan. Could it be the cause of signal problem?

jhollington
09-20-2007, 07:44 PM
Well, one significant difference between AT&T prepaid and postpaid plans is that the prepaid plans do not provide any roaming capabilities, which means you might get more limited coverage if there aren't any actual AT&T towers nearby. Postpaid plans can roam on various domestic AT&T partner networks, which thereby provide better coverage.

I have one iPhone which was attempted to be unlocked by Anysim. It didn't work. It was restrored and unlocked using Carlos method. It was unlocked but not getting any network. Even in the menu there is no place for Network selection.

Will using the EEP method fix this problem?

There are no guarantees that the EEP flash actually fixes all possible "No Service" problems, but it seems to have been successful for quite a few of them, my own situation included.

The bottom line is that it definitely won't hurt to try this method.

For those having problems with either No Service or problems with calls, there may be hope yet. I had similar problems with 2 customers' iPhones. One had the 'No Service' problem, while the other seemed to prefer one SIM over others, receive calls but not make them, blah, blah. Well, they are now working beautifully.

First, I relocked the iPhones using post # 9 found in this thread. Then, I unlocked the iPhones using the instructions found in www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5883&highlight=post+easy+tutorial+Team+Unlock

I did a complete restore first, AppTapped the iPhones, activated them before doing the above. The bbupdater (found somewhere in my collection of stuff) used to relock the phones was put in /usr/bin.

Hope the above helps those with same/similar problems.
