I tried it yesterday, but still no luck.
I got still waiting for root device and can not boot it with semthex or mifki kernel.
Did somebody managed to boot it in single user mode?

Install 10.4.9 on fully updated 10.4.8, in other case apple software updates are determined but are not installable

Most likely, the new kernel will be done after the 10.4.9 release and Apple releases the xnu sources. Then people can just carry over semthexs patches and it should be quite easy.

For everyone still sticking with Tiger, there is an updated 10.4.9 build (8P117 PPC & 8P2117 Intel) that has been released to ADC.
Looks like we should keep an eye out for a leak of this new build. ;)
