Howdy! New Guy Here. New in a couple of ways, not only new to the forum but new to Mac OS. But hey, I was using SCO Xenix back in the 1980s, so going back to a Unix based system is kinda like going back to the future...:)
Anyhow, I'm finally OVER Micro$oft and ready to move on. Been trying Ubuntu, but I realize that Mac OS X is the best OS on the market (well...the best desktop, Unix is really the OS...:p ). So I need an easy way to get into Mac OS and still have money to send my kids to college.
So I thought I might try a Hackintosh. I don't even know where to start. Well, OK, I know I should start with the compaitibilty list...
Anyhow, did I mention that I am the IT director of a company and that I have drawn a line in the sand at IE6, XP Pro, and Office 2003. If we adopt IE7, Vista, or Office 2007, it will be over my dead body. We are stuck with IE6 at the moment because of some online software that requires it. The next online software we are considering works fine on Firefox and Safari. Open Office does ALMOST everything we need to do except for some Access applications. I could not get Access to work under Wine, so that's where I got stuck with Ubuntu. However I did finally find that Crossover thing, but haven't evaluated it yet.
Just to prove my earnestness:
The president of the company wants a laptop and I recommended that he get a Mac Book.
My son is going to Georgia Tech next year and they require that he buy either a PC with Vista (where's the GAG smiley?) or a Mac Book. He's getting a Mac Book, even neither of us knows anything about Mac OS.
Oh, I should mention I DID have a Mac classic at one time... After trying every which way from Sunday to write programs for the thing (yes I earnestly tried Hypercards) I couldn't figure out what the thing was good for so I gave it away.
And since I have been informed by the board that I exceeded my smiley limit, you'll have to use your imagination on which smiley I put after the last paragragh...
