View Full Version : [Firmware] Build 5A240d, beta 3: What's new?

PathDaemon

A new build! So, any devs install this yet? Does Pwnage work for it? I'm about to try it out myself, but let the discussion begin.

EDIT: OK, so Pwnage won't work until a patch kit is developed for the new build. Darn.

PPT read support has been implemented. Trying the other document file types. Will edit this post if I find anything else of value

edit: Although the mail attachments plugin has a .ics (Calendar) icon, support for that attachment has not been implemented yet

From Appleinsider:

"Hidden away in the latest test firmware for iPhone developers is the mention of the chipset that will power third-generation cellular Internet access in Apple's next generation of the device."

"Sleuthing reveals this to be an Infineon chipset, the SGOLD3H, which both supplies the baseband for cellular data on GSM phones and serves equally as a general application accelerator and an audiovisual processor."

"Still, the newly discovered hardware references all but confirm the dependence of a 3G iPhone launch on Apple's firmware overhaul, which is officially scheduled to debut sometime in June. It also corroborates past claims by analysts that predicted an Infineon chip at the heart of an iPhone upgrade due in mid-year."

Initial Pages & Numbers documents read support has been implemented. No Keynote document read support yet. Those 3 doc types also have icons in the mail attachments plugin.

You can't mail those document, since they are packages (= folders)...
So I don't see why they should add support for viewing them ?

Any references to zip? I guess it would be possible to zip such packages, attach them to email and view on iPhone... Just an assumption.

You're right ;-)
But do normal people understand that when they try to mail a file with Gmail or hotmail ? No, the don't.
They just don't figure out why they can't send this "file" along with their mail...

People risk thier $500 devices every day. You think a $99 fee is really going to stop someone from releasing it? It will be leaked sooner or later, most likely after someone like Chronic verifies that its not watermarked.

You have no idea what you are saying, do you? With the $99.- fee you DO NOT get access to the new firmware. That is only to people/companies who entered the enterprise program.....

No, the enterprise get the fw first, but then a day later or later on that day the devs get it.

That is completely wrong. Anyone accepted in to the paid Beta program, individual or enterprise, gets access to the beta firmwares. Apple has just to this point been extremely picky with whom they have accepted.

You should probably get your facts straight before you go flaming anyone...

just upgraded to beta 2 this morning... was a nightmare... downgraded back to 1.1.4, but the donwgrade didnt work properly because itunes froze and then iPhone wouldnt boot... then i managed to get it into DFU mode, tried restoring but you cant downgrade with a pwned ipsw... (not sure if its the pwned ipsw which doesnt work of just the fact that it was dfu mode or firmware 2.0) so I used a stock IPSW, used iPwner, finished pwning but iphone wouldnt boot up! had the pineapple, was booting to half way then rebooting, so i restored to a pwned firmware as it looked like the pwning worked with the pineapple and it did yay :D

Moral of the story: DONT UPGRADE UNLESS YOUR A DEV. IF YOU DO IT MEANS YOU HAVE WAYYYY TOO MUCH SPARE TIME. INSTALLER DOESNT WORK, MAKING IPHONE CRIPPLED WITHOUT THE EXTRA APPS.

Holy cow - seems like an awful experience for you! I hope that future betas become more stable. It seems like the next beta update will take place in mid May. Hopefully that will be the final beta before the launch of 2.0 in June! Seems like a long wait!!!

So has anybody figured out if contacts search will only work for phones with Exchange enabled on them or will it work for phones without Exchange activated? Also, does search work for only contacts or also for MMS. Finally, does the telephone number for the phone remain at the top in the Contacts screen? Any difference with respect to the phone number for phones with Exchange and for phones without Exchange? Thank you!!

I always use a little trick when wanting to send documents from Numbers/Pages/Keynote. In the app when saving on a Mac always check "Include preview in document". Then in Finder ctrl-click on the saved file (package) and choose "show package content" in context menu. Open "QuickLook" inside and copy the pdf of the file that is stored in "QuickLook" to the finder. Attach it to your email and it can be viewed on the iPhone since the early fw versions.

They use it for browsing in Quick Look on the Mac but its fine for mailing aswell.

Just for those of you that cant wait

Before any leakage happens, I want to start the same lack-of-watermark verification as last time. I realize that the IPSW is signed, so watermarking is not likely, but we can't be too careful.

So, like last time, below is half of the MD5 sum of the latest IPSW. Someone else post the other half and confirm that both halves are the same on their end, and everyone can feel safe in leaking it.

MD5 (iPhone1,1_2.0_5A240d_Restore.ipsw) = 429142d57db7cf94****************

Hi there,

just realised, that in 5a240d, there is no way to connect to our test-exchange-server with a invalid SSL-Certificate via preferences.app. Anyone figured out if there ist an plist where this can be changed?

Thanks!

I have tmobile prepay and wondering if anyone can point me to or tell me how to get access to the limited sites. I think it changed since 1.1.4. I have the network settings right but I still get an error. What plist do i change.

Found a quick workaround for the Exchange Certificate Problem. Installed 5A225, set up the account with "accept any certificate", backup the Settings via iTunes and "upgrade" (not restore) to 5a240d. For me, it worked...

@rushco: should be /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/TMobile_Germany.bundle/carrier.plist

I'm not sure if this feature was in other builds of 2.0, but a new feature in this build allows users to save web images from Safari to Photos (I'm not sure if it saves to Camera Roll or a dedicated folder for web photos). Just tap and hold in a Safari screen and a dialog box will pop up. See here for info and a screen shot: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/04/14/new-iphone-firmware-allows-you-to-save-web-images/ . I am not sure how multiple pictures on a site would be handled. For those of you who have this beta installed and running, please provide any additional details. Cheers! :D

Camera Roll

You tap and hold on the picture itself. It pops up with an alert box asking to save the image or to go to the link (if there is a link).

That way, you can save just one image in a window...since you're only tapping and holding on one.

You can also do full screen capture of Safari pages (see here: http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/14/latest-iphone-beta-firmware-does-full-screen-captures-saves-web/ ), by holding the SLEEP button and tapping the HOME button, but I assume that this doesn't SAVE the link page for offline storage as well; it just takes a picture (screen capture) of the full screen. I believe that this was in the previous build (beta 2) of firmware 2.0.

I wonder if anyone can tell me how there battery life is with 5A240d? Are you needing to turn off wifi to get through the day? It would seem that I'm not making it through 3/4 of the day without hitting the charger with almost NO voice calling.

Cydia works on 5A240D !!!, I am running that, the only problem is there are no compatible application, but Cydia is open source so people can look at the cydia source and can make the application run on 2.0!!!

vandy1997

Just to make a clarification regarding the search feature in Contacts - it works even if you are not using Contacts via Microsoft Exchange. So if Apple does not decide to take this feature out, there will be Contacts search in firmware 2.0!! Very cool, since we will not need to use 3rd party applications or a separate application to do a search. There is still no search feature for SMS messages, e-mails, notes, Safari (within bookmarks), the file system, the music player/iPod, or the Calendar. So hopefully there will be a third-party app to provide a search feature within these other apps.

Use this http://apptapp.saurik.com/com/saurik/Packager-2.0.222-2.tgz file, copy it to the / on your iphone with ssh, untar the file and your are good to start with Cydia on iPhone 2.0.

You can even get the wget and other command working on iPhone with cydia, but no Terminal as MobileTerminal is not compatible with iPhone 2.0.

you can use putty for the shell on windows /mac [http://putty.darwinports.com/] and run the tar command with the proper options
tar -zxvf Packager-2.0.222-2.tgz will untar the file to proper location, provided you copied the packerXXX file to / and run the tar command from /

After several tries I managed to install Cydia without any error message.

But I think, that Cydia doesn't work properly. Every time I try to update my sources the Phone say: "Package Error" and the sources aren't updated. I also tried to install Lighttpd (it was said that it works with 2.0) but when I try to open 127.0.0.1 in Safari, the page can't be opened...

i have tried it, (backup settings, update to 240d,) and than itunes gave me two options : config as new iphone OR backup from settings, i selected the second one..
--> It works, i can connect to exchange :)

so far so good.. but: i can't PUSH Emails again :(((
i still can connect to exchange, sync emails/calender/contacts... but my iphone does't want to push...

any idea?? I thought this was the big improvement in 2.0... and the 5A240d firmware is at least the 4. beta version??
