Hi Folks,


ATTENTION: READ EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. This script will activate your phone and make youtube work.
TESTED with Windows XP and iPhone 1.0.2 Firmware. Other configurations might also work, post your experience here.

I've noticed that some folks in here are having a lot of trouble getting youtube to work, even though deleonju provided youtube certificate files that work great with Darkmen's Patching Activation method with no hassles. So, I decided to step in and give some help. What I did was to wrap up youtube's files and patching activation in a single "point and click" script, so you don't have to think too much to make things work. I haven't included the jailbreak part because the files are just too big and that would probably constitute copyright infringement.

ATTENTION: THIS METHOD ALONE WILL NOT UNLOCK YOUR iPhone!!!

HOW TO ACTIVATE YOUR iPhone FOR ANY SIM CARD AND ENABLE YOUTUBE

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Jailbreak your iPhone (Easy instructions in: http://ibrickr.com/ - Detailed intructions in: www.hacktheiphone.com)
2) Download and unpack this file:

(UPDATED in September 12th 2007: no need to restore your phone anymore!)


3) Run the "activation.bat" batch script that is included.


UNISTALL:
Doubleclick "reverse.bat" (This will reverse what PACAY has done. It will restore your original files and leave in iPhone totally deactivated)


REMEMBER to kill iTunes before doing anything. Any doubts, check README.txt


You'll be given instructions along the way, but mostly you'll just have to watch. At the end, you'll hopefully have an activated iPhone with YoutTube working. :) The good part is that this method is SIM card independent. So you can put any ATT SIM in the phone (or any SIM for the folks that have done GeoHot's unlock!). This means that you can change SIM cards without having to re-activate the phone. Another advantage is that you won't have to install an SSH sever (dropbear), which some folks here are not willing to do. This is the first version of the script, pre-alpha if you wish. I'd appreciate any comments so the script gets really fool proof. I have tested this script with my own phone several times, so It should work fine. If you have any problems, post here. I did it under Windows XP simply because I don't have a MAC. Also, I think MAC people already have pretty nice tools. Anyway, if you wanna replicate this idea your own way, just do a patching activation, then copy deleonju's youtube files to /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/ inside your phone.

You can't sync with outlook. You have to import your outlook into Mozilla Mail or Thunderbird and then export it as different file (I forgot what it's called but you can Google it) that is compatible with OSX.

I am using the supersim method. I've got a bunch of numbers, photos, etc on the phone. I will jailbreak on girlfriends's mac, run youtube batch, then return to jail on gf's mac (via iactivator). This is OK? I dont have to restore the iphone software at all.

I don't change any fies related to ICCID nor IMEI.
I believe those files are located insinde Lockdown/Activation Records/

I just add the certificate files. These files you're mentioning are checked by the lockdownd process. What we are doing is patching the lockdownd binary so it doesn't need to check those files. Actually it checks, but it always returns successful no matter what files you have. That's why your iPhone won't complain if you change SIM cards.

When you change SIM cards the activation files related to the SIM that are stored inside the Lockdown folder are checked by the lockdownd process. Since the binary is patched to always return successful verification, it won't complain about the mismatch.

So, again, the files you're mentioning don't get changed.

Sorry for the technical imprecisions if I had any. :)

You can also use ibrickr to jailbreak your iPhone I believe.

I think you won't have any problems if you don't restore you phone.
I ask to restore the phone because there are still some details that I don't know about the relationship amog those files in the lockdown folder, so I ask to restore just to make sure.

It seems iphoneinterface.exe didn't work quite well in your case.

Let's try to debug the problem.

1) Have you killed iTunes and all related processes?
2) Have you jailbroken your phone?
3) Have you used the vista version of the script?
4) Have you edited (and saved) any of the .iphone files?
5) Can try to use iPhone interface alone to see if it's working fine?

It seems you're both on vista.
The problem seems to be with iphoneinterface.exe.

When we get it to work the script will work.

Can you run iphoneinterface.exe alone and paste the output here?

If you don't mind having to reactivate your phone in case we are not successful, here's what I'd do:

1) run iphoneinterface (from your MAC is fine)
2) In iphoneinterface's prompt issue this command: deactivate
3) issue this last command: exit
4) copy the files again, remember to rename "patch" as the script does.
5) reboot your phone

Check the activate.bat file, there the script renames a file that is inside the folder. This file that gets renamed is orginally 'patch'. Since you're doing it by hand, you should rename it manually.

Check the activate.bat and you'll understand.

Here's my experience.

*PACAY = Point And Click Activation w/ Youtube

All this was done switching back and forth on my MacBook Pro and Parallels running Windows XP.

Running PACAY on activated iPhone = didn't work. The script seemed to work and went all the way but YouTube still didn't worked.

Restored trough iTunes-Mac, jailbreaked trough iActivator ( Mac ) then executed PACAY ( win ) = didn't work. ( got a pairing issue ).

Restored trough iTunes-Mac, jailbreaked with iBrickr = didn't work. iBrickr wouldn't find the iPhone. ( Even though iBrickr found it on earlier tests )

Restored trough iTunes-Win, jailbreaked with iBrickr, ran PACAY. Worked!

Plugged back in iTunes-Mac, iTunes found my iPhone backup and restored all my settings.

Guys i now have youtube working!! thanks so much for the help on this its been bugging me for weeks.

I eventually did a restore through mac, activated through Mac. Used ibricker on PC and the youtube script supplied for windows and all works perfectly!!

i think the culprit is iActivator. I did a restore of my phone and then activated it using iPhone Tool downloaded from the mainpage wiki. Activating it this way fixed my problems rather than using iActivator. I dont know why its messing it up but try that if you can. I now have youtube working..... watching kids get knocked off bikes right now :)

Restore iphone
Activate with iPhoneTool
(all on mac so far)

Go to Windows machine.
Jailbrake with IBrikr
Run the Windows Youtube Script

Sorry it didn't work for you...

I guess some activation methods create some files that make the system incompatible with the files I'm uploading (and youtube won't work this way).

I wasn't sure of that at first, but I suspected. That's why I ask to restore your phone in the instructions.

Whenever you have the time, just try to restore your phone before doing the rest. :)

Well, I don't think the files are the problem by themselves, but it might be some combination of factors where they may play a role.

Nevertheless, if you want to reverse it, it's simple too. :)

There's a folder called "backup" inside the script's folder. Your original files are stored inside it (I do create a backup copy :P). You will have to put them back in the phone.

Do this in the prompt:

# cd "point and click activation (with youtube) vista"
# copy backup\* .\
# iphoneinterface.exe < activate.iphone
# iphoneinterface.exe < youtube.iphone



The first command is so you can enter the script's folder, if you have renamed it, the name in the command will the one you've used.


If you wanna work with me to debug this problem so the script is improved I'd appreciate it. :)

This is my experience as Mac user with SuperSim (italy):

(the phone was already working apart from youtube)

1. I Restored the iPhone via iTunes with fw 1.0.2

2. Closed iTunes and opened iActivator

3. Performed Jailbreak

4. Attach the iPhone to a winXP with iTunes installed (iMac with BootCamp, as Parallels weren't able to connect to the usb)

5. Unzipped the **** zip (Pay attention here Mac users! After downloading the zip DO NOT run the BAT file from within the ZIP. Right-click on the ZIP file and choose UNZIP. Then open the new folder [NOT ZIPPED] and proceed. Sorry for pointing this out, but it may be tricky even for windows users)

6. Double-clicked the BAT file

7. iPhone fully activated (with TIM in Italy) and YouTube working.

8. connected back the iPhone to my Mac and restored the prefs via iTunes (you need to sync BEFORE you perform the restore mentioned in point 1)

WONDERFUL. I thought I'd have to activate the phone with iActivator to use the SuperSim after the process, but that was NOT necessary. iPhone activated with 1 click!

I've noticed that too. That's because windows have "seamless" integration with ZIPPED files so it looks to the user like it is a normal folder. The problem is that any dependencies among files that rely on them being in the same path might not work.

That's why I've changed to RAR (instead of zip). THis way, the user will have to really unpack it before using it. Hope that solves the issue. :)

I also had the Parallels USB problem. Turned out that the actual public version of Parallels dosen't support the iPhone. But Parallels Beta2 does : "Windows iTunes can connect to your iPhone"

Well, I don't think the files are the problem by themselves, but it might be some combination of factors where they may play a role.

Nevertheless, if you want to reverse it, it's simple too. :)

There's a folder called "backup" inside the script's folder. Your original files are stored inside it (I do create a backup copy :P). You will have to put them back in the phone.

Do this in the prompt:

# cd "point and click activation (with youtube) vista"
# copy backup\* .\
# iphoneinterface.exe < activate.iphone
# iphoneinterface.exe < youtube.iphone



The first command is so you can enter the script's folder, if have renamed it the name in the command will the one you've used.


If you wanna work with me to debug this problem so the script is improved I'd appreciate it. :)

Thanks Brasuco, now the Docking works again.... strange... not sure why it is..... but YouTube is useless over EDGE... it is too slow. Also Wifi is also slow for me (in Singapore) ... last night i tried the "Evolution of Dance" for 6 hrs i got to only 75% of the clip. Wonder why.

I understand your frustration. Let's try to get this thing working.
First of all, do you still have your ATT sim card?

If yes, would you mind restoring your phone with it up to the point iTunes asks you to activate?

Go all the way long.

After doing this don't change sim cards just yet.

Now, jailbreak your phone.

After jailbreak run iPhone interface and check if it is working fine.

If iphoneinterface is fine, go on.

Download the latest version of my script and run it again.

If everything works fine, just change sim cards now.




All the files that are replaced in your phone (4 in total) are backed up in the backup folder. If you ever need to restore them just run the reverse.bat script.

Also, these files are all restored to their original versions when you do a full restore on your phone. So I don't think your problem has any thing to do with the files since you did a full restore.



Let's try this first. If it doesn't work let's try hacktheiphone's approach then.

There are then some very easy intruction to follow. I cannot emphasise this enough.

It works for me and i have help 2 other people activate their phone this way then go on to activate youtube properly.

I have installe ifuntastic3 since and i still have youtube access.

With iActivator i too was having huge problems getting youtube to work. a full restore and activation according to the dev wiki helped me. Its a bit fiddlier to do than the nice GUI of iActivator as you activate your phone throu terminal but its works properly at least.

One thing i am noticing is that youtube is slow to load over my wifi connection... I have a very fast internet connection. Loading youtube on my PC and comparing the same file on the iphone see's the PC or Mac about 75% faster than loading the same file on the iPhone...

I tried this first thing when i got home from work-- It seems to activate the phone-- bit when i place my supersim in it says 'locked sim'. I've re-made the supersim and it is working.

I just dont get it. It was working perfectly until I tried this youtube business... talk about your biggest all time regrets...

Thanks for sticking by me there bud. After using iactivator and independence your was the only to activate the phone properly... then the problem was that the sim pin box wasnt popping up-- iw ent into settings and 'changed pin' and then my carrier logio came up.

Thanks, I started my macbook into windows xp, followed the instructions on hacktheiphone.com, and successfully unlocked my phone and also got youtube to work.

Then I tried to disable EDGE network by changing /private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist. However, I tried to write the changed file back, but it does not seem to be updated although iphoneinterface.exe did not complain anything.

Then I restarted macbook into OSX, and found that I could not access the phone using iphuc or iFuntastic 3.

Does that mean I have to stick to the same computer&OS to access the phone?
If I change to another computer/OS, I have to jailbreak again? Would the setup be erased?

You could give it a try without restoring your phone, but there's a chance it might not work.
the thing is that some files that are created during iAssign's activation have to be filled with part of the data that is included in the youtube's files that are copied to your phone by the script. The script does patch the lockdownd binary so the lack or mismatch of such activation files (iAssign) becomes a non issue. That's how the script activates your phone, instead of creating those files like iAssign, it makes the phone file independent. These files are specific to your SIM, so I could not have them included in the pack anyway.
I'm not sure if youtube will complain about your activation files not having the same certificate information as the youtube files that the script puts in your phone. If you'd like to give it a try and post here your experience that would be great. The good part is that the script will make your phone SIM independent as well, so you can still use your current SIM.
If you need to reverse the procedure just run the reverse.bat script that is included.

It seems iphoneinterface isn't working properly.

See if you are able to use it alone. Just type "iphoneinterface" and issue the "ls" command.

If you can't do it, this means that the problem is with iphoneinterface. Since the script uses it to send the files to the phone and to backup your original files, nothing will work.

Some people here have reported they are having compatibility problems when they switch between Mac and windows. I don't see what the reason might be, but you may try to jailbreak in windows to see if that works.


I think if we can get iphoneinterface to work, the script will also work.

Let me know the result of your test.

well my friend played around with it and it works now! but sadly its not reconigzed by itunes nor ifuntastic. Youtube loads up without the "cannot connect to youtube" error, but when i try loading up the featured videos, nothing shows up.

Sorry for the delayed response. I missed your post before. :)

Well, the only thing this script does is to backup and replace four important files in your iphone, namely:

/usr/libexec/lockdownd
/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/device_public_key.pem
/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/device_private_key.pem
/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/data_ark.plist

The first file (lockdownd) is the binary responsible for monitoring your activation status. We replace it with a patched version so it doesn't complain about the absence of activation files inside the lockdown folder and believes your phone is always activated no matter what. This method is called patching activation (thanks to Darkmen).

The last three files are responsible for youtube's authentication process (thanks to deleonju).
If you have a clean iPhone (with no activation records/files) these files alone will enable a fully functional youtube. But if you have used some other activation method that probably has put activation files inside you phone, these three files alone will not do the trick. In this case, you'll need to edit the activation files that were put in your phone (they are SIM specific) to reflect the same certificate information as in the three files the script uploads. That's why I use patching activation, so we don't have to edit anything.


The script is reversible since it is a simple replacement of files. To reverse everything, just click on the reverse.bat script that is included in the pack.

If you are willing to do everything by hand, I don't think it is too difficult. Just remember to back up everything first.

Tried running the script without restoring first - phone was activated on a mac - iAsign, etc, using an active ATT sim. The script seemed to run and complete ok, but YouTube didn't work.

So, I did a restore to up to 1.0.2 (from.1) in Windows, then used iBrikr to jailbreak, then used the script again. Although it was a start from scratch and I forgot to backup my camera roll photos, EVERYTHING works now - sync media from iTunes on my mac, and I sync calendar and contacts from iTunes/Outlook on the pc.

Reinstalled installer on the mac and everything is great.

THANKS for thinking of the adventerous novices out here by writing the script and keep up the great work!

I was having problems with you tube as well, but then I finally got it to work. What I recommend everyone do is "unshackle" their iPhone using iFuntastic 3.0.3 and then run the script which can be downloaded from ********** link mentioned in this forum! Good luck!

I'm sorry for the delayed response, I've missed your post before.

Well, the script should work fine with your turbo sim. Just make sure you restore you pone before that. THere are some files that are created during the other activation methods that are incompatible with the one the script uses (you could get no youtube). It's a matter of somefiles in the lockdown folder, but just to make sure, I ask people to restore their phones first.

Another user (capitaincool) here had a problem with the SIM card password. He forgot to configure it in the restored phone, so remember to do that.

3) Ran the program for youtube.

All went well, but then when i type iphoneinterface, it says "Could not enable SSL"

I checked on this error twice and it happens only after i run the youtube patch. Any idea what could be the problem.

Youtube is working fine, but I am worried about the SSL part.

I simply used ssh to backup the original 3 files and simply copied the new ones into my iPhone.

Rebooted it and now youtube works perfectly as well as iTunes sync.

There are some people having similar problems with the script. Most of the trouble is happening to MAC users. I haven't had the opportunity to test the script under MAC nor to write a port either. That's why I warn people that this script is suitable for windows users.
Well, I think I'll have access to a MAC mini in a copuple of weeks and I'll see if I can manage to create a similar script for the MAC and solve the issues MAC users are having.

The script will run fine, but there's a chance youtube might not work. You should run the script in an unactivated phone. Restore and jailbreak your phone before running the script just to make sure no previous activations will interfere with it.

Before each step (restoring, jailbreaking, running the script), remember to check if your MAC tools are still working with the phone.

HI, I just followed the steps mentioned here. After unlocking the phone,

1) I restored the firmware
2) Activated the phone by using factoryactivation patch
3) Ran the program for youtube.

All went well, but then when i type iphoneinterface, it says "Could not enable SSL"

I checked on this error twice and it happens only after i run the youtube patch. Any idea what could be the problem.

Youtube is working fine, but I am worried about the SSL part.

Have you tried issuing some commands? ls, putfile, getfile, etc?

I have a question regarding your script.

I think the plan you have is just fine. The only thing I have to add is that's probably better to upgrade iTunes before restoring the phone. Also, the firmware update will automatically happen during restoration process since your phone is still 1.0.0, which means steps 1 and 2 are basically the same :).


Everything should work just fine, but even If you run into any sort of problem, just post here and we'll try to figure it out.

This ATT screen is exactly what you should expect. Just go on with jailbreak.

The jailbreak I used while testing the script is the one referenced in the 11th step of this page:

Many people were able to accomplish the same with ibrickr. So I guess It's up to you to decide between the two.

So I've run Jailbreak and that seems to have gone well; however, when I run your script it seems to be saying that I am missing a bunch of files (device_public_key.pem, device_private_key.pem, data_ark.plist, lockdownd, etc.).

Note that I in order to run the jailbreak I only ran step #11 on the hacktheiphone page that you pointed out. The one which essentially involves going to \phonedmg and running "jailbreak". I did not carry out any other steps on that page.

What do you think?

Hi,

From the output below I guess I know what your problem might be.

You've probably downloaded the ZIP version of the script.

Windows recognizes ZIP files like they are regular folders. So, you are sort of "tricked" by the system into believing you are working on a folder that contains all the files being shown on windows explorer. That's no true. As soon as you click the script, windows will decompress this one file and run it leaving all the other needed files still inside the ZIP.

What you need to do is download the latest version of the script, the one in the begining of the thread, really unpack all the files (right button click, then extract here), open the folder, the run the script from there.

Good luck.

EDIT: I now realize you have the latest version of the script. That means you're probably just opening it with WINRAR (or something equivalent) and clicking the .BAT script directly. The same advise I've mentioned before is valid here, just unpack everything before running the script.

1.My original activation each time was with Jailbreak/iphoneinterface from marks hackthe iphone. com, I went back to this each time as I felt comfortable with the process. I then loaded SSH and binkit from the same website, also got comfortable with this process.

2. This is where I did something strange, as I did not understand what BSD Subsystem is, never got a definition from anyone, I then did iBrickr Installer and BSD Subsystem install, because of it's automation from PXL I don't know what it was doing to the phone, I guess it could well have been running Jailbreak again!! Probably double working, but I'm more of a hardware guy, I fumble through software stuff.

3. I create my own sepac and nor with Hexedit. did ieraser, test points and the unlocker...iAsign with new .pem done OPEN...

I am really happy to Restore, and run your program, it just took so many goes to get the unlock to work that I don't what to have to go throught it again in a hurry. How many people have lost there unlock with Restore? Maybe none, I don't know.

What would be great, and I do need it know that my gf want to borrow the phone is to be able to swap SIMS, so I'm happy to go ahead with the download and proceed, just one question, what are the chances of having to re-unlock with needles again!!! Regards, JsR

Worked for me as well.
Had a 1.02 ipod activated with PQDVD, then jailbroken with iBrickr. After running the activate script youtube app started, but no videos...

So I just restored the iPod to 1.02.
iBricked it straight away and then ran the activate script, which unlocked it and activated youtube.

Hi, as long as you habe thf latest version of the baseband firmware there is no risk. The script is pretty simple. It simply replaces 4 files in your iPhone. Also the script backs up the original files in case you want to reverse the procedure.

Yes this is normal. The script is suposed to remove the need for activating your phone so you can switch sims without the need for reactivation, and also it makes youtube work.

Hi Folks,


I've noticed that some folks in here are having a lot of trouble getting youtube to work, even though deleonju provided youtube certificate files that work great with Darkmen's Patching Activation method with no hassles.

So, I decided to step in and give some help.

What I did was to wrap up youtube's files and patching activation in a single "point and click" script, so you don't have to think too much to make things work.

I haven't included the jailbreak part because the files are just too big and that would probably constitute copyright infringement.


TESTED with Windows XP and iPhone 1.0.2 Firmware. Other configurations might work also, post your experience here.

Here's what you have to do:

0) Start your Windows Machine (Sorry MAC people).
1) Restore you iPhone.
2) Kill iTunes related processes.
3) Jailbreak your iPhone (instructions in: www.hacktheiphone.com)
4) Download and unpack this file:
(UPDATED!!!! Now with reverse script so you can undo the procedure.)

(remove spaces)

5) Run the activation.bat batch script that is included. Any doubts, check README.txt

You'll be given instructions along the way, but mostly you'll just have to watch.

At the end, you'll hopefully have an activated iPhone with YoutTube working. :)

The good part is that this method is SIM card independent. So you can put any ATT SIM in the phone (or any SIM for the folks that have done GeoHot's unlock!). This means that you can change SIM cards without having to re-activate the phone.
Another advantage is that you won't have to install an SSH sever (dropbear), which some folks here are not willing to do.

This is the first version of the script, pre-alpha if you wish. I'd appreciate any comments so the script gets really fool proof.
I have tested this script with my own phone several times, so It should work fine. If you have any problems, post here.

I did it under Windows XP simply because I don't have a MAC. :P
Also, I think MAC people already have pretty nice tools.
Anyway, if you wanna replicate this idea your own way, just do a patching activation, then copy deleonju's youtube files to /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/ inside your phone.

As long as you unpack all the files it doesn't really matter.

The problem is that sometimes people mistakenly click the "activate.bat" script directly in WINRAR (or the equivalent you're using) windows without unpacking everything first. As long as you make sure all files are unpacked and in the same folder you should have no problems.

I am running iTunes 7.4 on Windows Vista, iPhone firmware 1.0.2

The problem I am having is at the end of the whole process after your activate.bat file (for vista) runs, I open youtube and get an "Unable to Connect" error message. Here are the steps I am using to reproduce (forgive me for the excessive detail, I want to make sure I don't leave out anything that might be important).

1) Open iTunes 7.4 in Vista
2) Reboot iPhone into restore mode (hold power + home for ~30 seconds)
3) Restore to iPhone 1.0.2 in iTunes
4) After step 3 completes, I kill iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe

At this point, I have a clean-slate iPhone v 1.0.2

5) Jailbreak iPhone using iBrickr v0.8 with the old iTunesMobileDevice.dll (file version 7.3.85.0 - the same one included in your script zip file) - this involves opening iBrickr, clicking "Free my phone", reboot into restore mode (step 2 again), then waiting about 5 minutes

At this point I have a jailbroken clean-slate 1.0.2 iPhone, unactivated. I am now ready to run your script

6) I run the "point and click activation (with youtube) vista/(CLICK HERE) activate.bat" file.
7) I press enter on the "are you ready?" prompt - Here's the output of your script

8) I hold down the power button and slide the bar to turn off the iPhone
9) I press power to boot it back up - the iPhone is activated and it goes to the main screen.
10) I click on YouTube -

Now, here's the problem. It says: "Cannot connect to YouTube".

Any thoughts as to where I went wrong? Is there another jailbreak method I should try besides iBrickr?

Hi,

What do you mean by "clean state iPhone" exactly?

I'm assuming you have a previous activation. That's the only reason for the script not to work I can think of so far.

I guess if you erase all files in:

/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/activation_records

Everything should work.


Try that first, if it doesn't work I'll come up with something else.

Hello Brasuco - excellent work it appears many people are having success... except me!

I am running iTunes 7.4 on Windows Vista, iPhone firmware 1.0.2

The problem I am having is at the end of the whole process after your activate.bat file (for vista) runs, I open youtube and get an "Unable to Connect" error message. Here are the steps I am using to reproduce (forgive me for the excessive detail, I want to make sure I don't leave out anything that might be important).

1) Open iTunes 7.4 in Vista
2) Reboot iPhone into restore mode (hold power + home for ~30 seconds)
3) Restore to iPhone 1.0.2 in iTunes
4) After step 3 completes, I kill iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe

At this point, I have a clean-slate iPhone v 1.0.2

5) Jailbreak iPhone using iBrickr v0.8 with the old iTunesMobileDevice.dll (file version 7.3.85.0 - the same one
