I am just windows user with out MAC box.
so, I try to find out that if it possible to extract Pwnage Tool
and grab BootNeuter.app then transfer to 1.1.4 phone directly by using SFTP
seting root permission for BootNeuter
Can I run it and program will work correctly?
and also could you please explain what should I put on
firmware folder in BootNeuter.app?
Thanks.

quote from http://wikee.iphwn.org/sgold_bootrom:bootneuter
BootNeuter needs to run with root permissions to unload the CommCenter and access the interactive bootloader. So, it needs to be installed either via Pwnage or via a method that gives it suid-root privileges.
So it should work if you copy it via sft and then "chmod u+s" and "chown root:wheel" the binary.
EDIT: Yes, seems to work - i have uploaded the complete BootNeuter.app including the firmware-files for 1.1.4 here: http://rapid$hare.com/files/104550195/BootNeuter.zip.html

Worked flawlessly. Just download this for 1.1.4:
http://rapid$hare.com/files/104550195/BootNeuter.zip.html
Extract the BootNeuter.app and put this on your iPhone. Then execute following commands via ssh:
chmod u+s /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
chown root:wheel /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
Restart the SpringBoard and now you have a fully functional BootNeuter.app.
what about 1.1.3 , this will work anyway ?

for 1.1.3 you need other baseband-firmware-files i guess.

OK some questions:
Do we need the original bootloader files (4.6 & 3.9) to upload somewhere after installing the bootneuter?
Should we enable fakeblank when upgrading the bootloader from 3.9 original to 4.6?

Integrated in the BootNeuter.app i uploaded on Rapid$hare.

It's up to you - here is the offical BootNeuter-Guide: http://wikee.iphwn.org/sgold_bootrom:bootneuter

So installing Bootneuter by this method - is this simply what the automated PWN section of the PWNED does
e.g. does this PWN your iphone and then its simply a case of getting the modified custom ISPW?

You could use the newest baseband also with the non-fakeblank version of 4.6.

I have a 16GB iPhone that had been downgraded to 3.9BL
Now thanks to the dev's I've got:
Resetting target...
pinging the baseband...
issuing +xgendata...
firmware: DEV_ICE_MODEM_04.04.05_G
eep version: EEP_VERSION:208
eep revision: EEP_REVISION:1
bootloader: BOOTLOADER_VERSION:4.6_M3S2
fls/eep pair: matches
I can breath easy now if I ever have to send it back to be fixed :)
(I selected 4.6 BL/BN/Unlock and all works perfectly on my Orange-UK contract)

Tried it Works Great..
Installed the files using WinSCP
Did give the 2 commands using Putty.exe
Set the Bootload to 4.6
Set the Neuter to "ON"
Unlock to ON
took like 3 minutes and phone is on 4.6BL unlocked
All Settings and Data is there.
Remember folks to set the phone unlock settings "Never" and reboot after it is done.

Worked for me as well!
I have a 1.1.3 otb that I ran ziphone on (before I new it downgraded the bootloader) to unlock/activate. I've been having major issues with it, so I want to virginize and see if those Apple geniuses can help out...Regardless, I've flashed it probably 15 times in the last couple weeks, even had it dualbooting for troubleshooting purposes.
But today before I installed Bootneuter, I was at 1.1.3 with the 1.1.3 baseband, so Restored to 1.1.4 and verified that the process had updated to the appropriate Baseband (4.04.15_G) before doing this. Then ran iplus2.0 to activate and jailbreak (not unlock).
Copied over the directory (thanks for the vapidshare link fheusel!)
Had some permission errors at first when trying to run the app, despite issuing the command lines as indicated above (also, note that "hown" should be "chown").
I ended up assigning 0755 permissions to the whole Bootneuter.app directory recursively (using WinSCP), then re-issued the command line commands and it worked great after that.
Thanks iphone-dev team and everybody else for documenting your experiences.
i get the baseband flash files for 1.1.3 but i run BootNeuter say me that Couldn't find all requiered files...please check you installation of this app.
what more i still missing ?

E0x, you need the baseband flash files for 1.1.4, not 1.1.3.
As far as I know, you must be at 1.1.4 with baseband 4.04.15_G for bootneuter to work.
so i can't use it with firmware 1.1.3 ?

I did Neuter=ON and BB unlock =ON

i have 1.1.1 OOB...3.9BL
right now on 1.1.4 by ziphone
have installed bootneuter....should i upgrade bootloader to 4.6? and what changing should i see then?
thanx in advance
I started with BL 3.9 unlocked with iPlus2.0b and the options I chose on BootNeuter are:
BL: 4.6
Neuter: ON
FakeBlank: OFF
Unlock: ON
And the result was:
Error: The bootloader flash succeeded but baseband flash failed (Error 2).
Any thoughts?
edit: I am guessing it's because it was patched by iplus before.
I can confirm that this also works on a "old" 3.9 Bootloader Iphone.
Currently running 4.6 + BootNeuter on + Unlock and all is fine. ;)
I needed to 0777 the files and after that give the commands.
Then it worked. :)

It worked on my Ziphoned 1.1.4 OTB which had been downgraded to BL 3.9 orig.
I can't believe that right now my phone is running BL 4.6 + 1.1.4 firmware + 1.1.4 baseband unlocked. This is not something possible before yesterday.
Yes, everything is working including phone, wifi, email, youtube, Google locate me etc....

You can find it on http://i.myapple.pl
Confirmed! It works!
Just run it on 1.1.4 (without Pwning it first). Changed 3.9 to 4.6. All settings remained. Everything is fine, however, honestly, I don't know what it accomplished?! ;-)
I was hoping it would improve "locate me" feature. It didn't...
P.S. Since I didn't know whether it's safe to delete BootNeuter afterwards, I just hid it with Poof ;-)
P.S.2 Mail.app seems much "faster" now ;-)

What BootNeuter does is it patched the BOOTLOADER on the BASEBAND (yes .. baseband also have boatloader). This bootloader check your baseband if you are using a legit sim. BootNeuter takes out this checking so your baseband can be flash and unlock. This also makes the unlock survives any restore provided you restore it with a custom firmware build by IPSW builder.
I quote this from MuscleNerd
When you click the "iPwner" button in PwnageTool, your main s5l8900 bootloader gets pwned. To undo this, use iTunes to restore to a Apple ipsw.
When you neuter using BootNeuter, your S-Gold radio bootloader gets "pwned". To undo this, run BootNeuter again and turn off all options (and pick 3.9 or 4.6 depending on your preference).
Two different CPUs, two different tools. But both the s5l8900 pwnage and S-Gold pwnage are 100% reversible.
BootNeuter only pwned the S-GOLD bootloader while iPwner pwned the s5l8900 bootloader (the one we refer to BL3.9 and BL4.6)

Your phone BL is neutered.
Your phone is PWNED only when the OS bootloader is replaced by pwned.

LA20,
How are you?
If you start out with 3.9BL and use iplus; iplus will not touch your bootloader hence it remains as is.
Can you confirm that your bootloader has been upped to 4.6?
The message you got says BL has been upgraded but baseband 04.04.05_G failed to flash. What I am thinking is since you already running 1.1.4, the baseband is already there and unlocked therefore you got that message.
Is your phone working?

it will then flash to 4.6 right

Just made this little video of how to upgrade your bootloader from 3.9 to 4.6 so that if you got downgraded with certain unlocking programs you can get your original 4.6 bootloader back,
If you Pwned your iphone and have bootneuter on your iphone then your ready to go.
If not then there is a way to put just the bootneuter on a 1.1.4 iphone using ssh
following instructions by fheusel
Just download this for 1.1.4:
http://rapid$hare.com/files/104550195/BootNeuter.zip.html remove the ($)
Extract the BootNeuter.app and put this on your iPhone.
Then set the suid bit for root and change the owner to root (thanks to TJ2K7 for that)
Then execute following commands via ssh:
Code:
chmod u+s /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
chown root:wheel /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
Restart the SpringBoard and now you have a fully functional BootNeuter.app.
then see the video I made http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWEJRu24pw0
With help from this thread and everyone that posted in it I made a little video of bootneuter in action

The installer source says the app is only 2MB.
Does that include the bootloader files?
Maybe someone with technical knowledge could explain to me how it can reflash the baseband without a baseband file? If its only 2MB there is no way that there is a baseband in there as well!

To go back to stock bootloader, re-run BootNeuter with the 3 switches on the screen set to off. An iTunes restore doesn't change the bootloader (unless you're fakeblanked and restore to 1.1.1 or 1.0.0).
I did this method yesterday and today I got my hands on Mac. I pwned it and I didn't have to netured the BL again, the settings stay the same even though I DFU restore to 114 before going through the pwn process on Mac.
Like MuscleNerd says, the only way to go back to a not-neutered state is by going through the BootNeuter process again and choosing OFF.

This may be an ignorant question...but I'll ask anyways.
I jailbroke with ziphone which downgraded the bootloader to 3.9. I intended on using BootNeuter to upgrade to 4.6 only in case an unfortunate incident occurs.
I understand what bootneuter does with the bootloader and neutering, but what is the "unlock" terminology implying? Is it unlocking the baseband to make the phone usable on other networks?
I am an ATT customer and I did not "unlock" originally because I would be using the intended network. Are the terms unlock and jailbreak being used interchangeably here or is this unlocking for other networks? I don't want the phone unlocked for that purpose and I want to assure I never have a problem if I have to return the phone to apple.
Thanks,
Joe

Unlocking makes the phone useable on other networks.
You don't need to unlock if you use BootNeuter. It's just one of the options you have.
ziphone didn't need to downgrade your bootloader to jailbreak your phone. It's just another bug it has (along with the grey wifi and brick reports).

Also, How do I know what my original BL was?

Also, How do I know what my original BL was? They changed from 3.9 to 4.6 around week 45 (there are some 4.6's from week 41 and some 3.9's from week 47). The week is the 4th and 5th digit of your serial number (see on the back side of the phone). Als, read http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?p=149233#post149233 and the thread it is part of.
How can apple even know if my BL was 4.6 or 3.9?I'm sure they have software that can tell all the versions on your phone. Maybe they downloaded iLiberty, or they have something of their own making. And I'm almost sure they have a database of all the phones they have made (by full serial number) with the original configurations.

I guess my question is what was my original BL and not what is my BL I have checked with BBinfo and it is 3.9 but with my wife's phone I used PWNED and the 4th and 5th numbers of the serial are 08 and since PWNED does not change the BL of is saying it has 4.6 and not 3.9 like one would expect! I just want to know how to tell for sure what mine was originally?

Can anybody explain how to install bootneuter from a windows xp pc? To make it a bit more complex there's no wifi or edge available on the iphone. Can i use winscp and if so, how? Iliberty+ doesn't recognize the payload with swifi and bootneuter in it, so no possibility to do it with that neither.

Or you can use iPhoneBrowser to put the BootNeuter.app in /Applications on the phone, then use the terminal on the phone (can also be installed through iLiberty) to make it executable:chmod +x /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter(or whatever the name of the actual file is)

Have some question about BootNeuter. I'm on firmware 1.1.3. I unlocked with Ziphone and then got 3.9. Now i have found BootNeuter last week and used it to go from 3.9 to 4.6. But here are my questions. I now want to restore it with iTunes to firmware 1.1.4. My first question is can you just put my i iphone in DFU mode and then do a restore with iTunes or not? Do i have to go back to 3.9?
A last question : So now i have 4.6. Now if i put al the switches to off and then press flash what will happen then?
Thx in advance

Thx in advance1. Yes you can, no you don't need to as long as the bootloader is " neutered". 2. You'll have the original 4.6 bootloader and a locked baseband (i.e. AT&T only). If you leave "unlock" on, you must realize that 4.6 can't deal with an unlocked 1.1.3 baseband, so you would probably get errors and trouble. Better to leave it neutered in that case.

i installed boot neuter without any need to run permissions from scape-server.org/iphone and everything went right.
I had an 1.1.4 with BL 3.9FB unlocked with iplus2.0b.
I used the settings:
Version: 4.6
Neuter: On
FakeBlank: OFf
Unlock: On
My question is what do I have now?
A 1.1.4 with BL (4.6 neutered?) unlocked with (iplus still?)
What does this mean for the future? Any new firmware from apple i can update without re-unlocking?
Thanks.

Hi all
I recently bought myself a 8gb Iphone and (not knowing much about unlocking them)
I used Ziphone to unlock my 1.1.4 everything went through fine but now my phone will make and recieve calls and text but the wifi and bluetooth have stoped working is there any chance this bootneuter will fix that problem?
I would really appriciate it if someone could explain to me the simplist way to get bootneuter to work on my iphone. Im currently useing windows xp and like I said earlyer I am pritty new to the Iphone and the unlocking process.
thank you in advance.

Yes, it will.
You may want to have BSD on the phone as well.
BTW, why do you want 3.9 to 4.6 ?
Did you use ziphone before?

No - you have to set the suid bit for root and change the owner to root - according to fheusel
:D

I have not tried it. But you could make sure it is set. Connect with Putty (Windows) or Terminal (Mac OS X) to the iPhone and issue the two commands (according to fheusel)
chmod u+s /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
chown root:wheel /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
As stated here, you should have BSD Subsystem instlled aswell on your iPhone.

Ok,
I have no problem doing this as I'm not a Newbie or anything, but I have to ask - What is the suid? And what is changed by doing this? Will it alter any of the other phone processes?
Thanks

I used iLiberty+ and told it to install BootNeuter. It worked fine (iLiberty is quite sophisticated, it does things right, we can learn a lot by reading through the payload scripts).

Thanks"Set User ID on execution". It means that the program always runs "as root", even if the user who executes it is someone else (like mobile, the user who starts applications from SpringBoard). So the program can do everything the root user can do, like writing to certain folders, manipulating certain things, etc.
In a long directory listing, this shows up as -rws------ instead of -rwx------.

Jim is right. iLiberty will deliver the bootneuter payload to your phone with permission set correctly. It works.
