View Full Version : Why do I need this?

I'm on 3.9FB with 1.1.4
It looks like even when the official 2.0 FW comes out, it will be only a matter of days until it will be unlocked and jailbroken.

So is there any one reason why I should use the pwnage tool on my phone?

If you have to restore you can go back to a already jailbroken activated and unlocked phone :D

Fair enough, but I'll save all of the 5 minutes extra it would take to do a "normal" restore and one of the well known jailbreak/unlock methods.
And considered that, unless something terrible happens, I actually won't need to restore... I guess I really don't need it? Eh? What? No?

Its all up to you hell I am I think I am the only guy who would take iplus2.0b over iliberty, in the end its about doing what you feel safe with and what you prefer. Besides to each there own right, so just do you :)

It's just that the kids all go "hell yeah!" and "whoop whoop" so I couldn't help wondering what all the hype is about.
Yeah, sure, once we got Win XP running on our phones, then maybe lol

Because the "official" Dev Team hasn't had a way to update to 1.1.4, and the official way to get to 1.1.3 requires an extremely long process (30-45 minutes).

Though there are other tools out there to unlock your phone, released by the Dev Team are likely to be the most tested.

The fact that we can now apply unsigned firmware images to the phone is a big deal in my opinion.

The fact that you can restore using a "cooked" firmware is certainly big news.

Who knows... maybe in the future different OS's

But there's nothing there to enhance my day to day experience of using the phone...

Depends on you, you will be able to install any not signed firmware file you prefer, custom configured to your needs, and in the futre noone will have to digg ages for a new jailbreak, jsut get a custom, prejailbroken and activated ipsw and go.

See, there is 2.0 now, ally ou need on a pwned phone is to build yourself a custom ipsw out of the original, install it and it will be unlocked/jailbroken/acivated and ready for usage.

If you sill not see the advantage of it, well I don't know :)

For those who are unlocking now using the pwnage tool is obviously the way to go.

For those who used iPlus/iLiberty and are currently on 3.9FB and 114 you can use 4.6bl with 114 unlocked now without needing to go back to 3.9FB. I am not going to do that at the moment since things are smooth, but for those of you who absolutely want to run 4.6 with 114 unlocked can use pwnage/bootneuter for that.

People who used Ziphone and are stuck at 3.9 so to speak are going to be relived and ecstatic. They can finally go back to 4.6 bootloader by software if necessary. That door has opened.

Ziphone fanboys should note that it took a whole group and not a single person to come up with a solution and short term thinking and fanboyism for one person doesn't help users or future unlocking, one person can't do this alone, and hijacking code, credit and donations can only help for one or two versions of firmware untill Apple closes the hole. Then what? Users will be stuck again. You need a group to come up with unlocks and now Ziphone fanboys should be graceful enough to acknowledge that.

So all in all a good day for everyone using unlocked iPhones.

I guess the root of my being underwhelmed is partially that FW 2.0 doesn't contain anything that I myself would find useful (MMS, video camera etc).

Ok
I need some help.
I have some questions. I need answer since im getting my iPhone today (great for me, right?).

1. IF i use iLiberty+ and use it for Jailbreak/Activate/unlock + 3.9FB am I after this able to use PWNED if i wanted to??

To clarify, by using iLiberty+ im in NO way, and i really mean NO way stuck somewhere? I can without problem upgrade, use PWNED and so on.
I'm 99.9% sure, but i want to be sure.
I really need to know since i was hoping to to this today.

Thanks in advance

I don't see why so many people have bought iPhones and believe that Apple will go and add features like video recording into this model. I just don't see features like that being added into this model. Those are the type of features that will force you into upgrading into a new phone come the end of summer.

My thoughts on PWNAGE is that custom FW cannot be downloaded as it contains Apple code and is therefore considered warez. Most boards have already stated that they will be banning people if they link to custom FW's.

For the majority of people who are not programmers, this is a problem. There's no way I would download a torrent file claiming to be a custom 2.0 FW and try to restore to it using PWNAGE.

If you have a mac you can unlock, activate and jailbreak with pwnage tool today. You can use latest firmware, baseband and bootloader together which is the ultimate hack. The windows version is imminent.

However I would wait for a day or 2 untill pwnage becomes more clear and tutorials become available or people who use it successfully post some guides.

In the interim if you can't wait you can use iLiberty to unlock, activate and jailbreak your brand new iPhone firmware 114 with little issue. Everything is reversible, no permanent changes of any sort are made. You can use pwnage without issue later. Please read the iLiberty sticky thread in this forum for video guides and detailed tutorials on how to unlock your phone.

Because I probably wasn't the only person to think that those functions, which are present in virtually all others and much crappier phones, can only be missing because of time restraints, and the general demand for them would make Apple submit them quickly.

Well.

Not so.

Fair enough, who knows maybe they will deliver. However considering how cunty Apple has become I don't see it happening. They will deliver updates that address little things like SMS to multiple people, but when it comes to adding entire new functions I'm certain it will be reserved for now models in order to force users into upgrading.

Agreed. Just how I see things.

It's an American tradition. Edison was just like Jobs is now. Great new gadget (iPhone/Phonograph) but only goes half the way of what people want (MMS etc/records of well known artists).

I used Iliberty+, worked great for both me and my brother.
Although, now i need a safe source for software, haven't found any sites yet that i feel im comfortable with yet.

Put in some MP3's, the sound with headset is amazilingly good and clear.
