The new pwnage video mentions bootneuter being the ultimate unlocking tool what actually is it, and what does it do. I think it might have something to do with unlocking along the lines of geohots unlock method which is like IPSF. If that is not correct can someone correct me please.

Doenst matter what bootloader you have. It doesnt relie on baseband-bootloader, but another bootloader that you havnt read about before when dealing with unlock/jailbreak

you can create your own firmware. i think we have to restore our iphones to 1.1.4 or 1.1.3 before we can use this tool.

First off, all I have to say is, WOW! There is no way, and I mean no way it seems around this method, unless Apple told every iPhone owner to come into the Apple store and physically swapped out the bootloader (very unlikely lol)! But i do have a few questions.

First off, does this work on both 3.9orig and 4.6orig bootloaders?

Secondly, I noticed BootNeuter. Does this mean all the people who got their bootloader downgraded to 3.9 with ziPhone can now upgrade to 4.6 or 3.9fb?

I really want to know more about what the BootNeuter does?

It has tabs for 3.9 and 4.6 Bootloaders, whether the neuter is on or off and whether fake blank is on or off and then it shows the bootloader being flashed?!

What does this mean to those of us with existing stock and fake blank bootloaders? what does the bootneuter do? why was it flashing the bootloader?

and other questions:

Do we have to have an unlocked using iPlus/ZiPhone etc baseband before we run this?

And what does this do to iPhoneSIMFree unlocks? does it work with them? will it cause issues?

Your mis interpreting Engadget.

It will NOT COME with firmware 2.0 Beta - they are being given a copy to show it works but if you want the beta you will have to find it online - and I had a brief look and could find nothing!

Eitherway there are two betas the 1.2 and 2.0 - 1.2 is less buggy and has all features working although there is no iTunes DRM on it.

2.0 is minus iTunes/AppStore and apparently hangs and reboots lots and is unusable as a normal phone according to devteam members.

So as cool as Pwnage is - firmware 2.0 seems to be a step backwards right now and will reduce the functionality of your iPhone even if you can find it somewhere online! (which I doubt!).

Pwnage is awsomely cool but lets be honest unless you have an OTB iPhone its not really worth using until a new firmware is out - or you need to restore.

Having said that I will probably try it out myself even although my 2 iPhones are both fully unlocked and working already and I don't need to! lol

Edit: @ Law, i just searched on my resources, and vmware seems to be retail (that has never stopped me lol) it is about 6 rar files. I searched for pearpc, and installed and its working, so hopefully god willing it will work!

liberty, it will be neat because it should make everything run smoothly. And each time there is a release from Apple, there will likely be a customized release that already prepackages everything. So you just restore with the customized firmware file, and your phone is all set. Now we just need a way to choose all of our third-part apps that are not sanctioned by AppStore to restore automatically. The AppStore downloaded files will be installed automatically since they are stored in iTunes (much like how songs are restored to the iPhone through iTunes). I look forward to the end of June so that we can have the final 2.0 firmware!

It is edited to reduce the video length as no-one wants to watch for ages as the status bar gradually moves. I have a fast pc and it still takes what i consider to be a long time for me to restore/update my iphone.

saxo, at this point, I don't think so. At least that does not seem to be the claim from the devs. Please correct me if I'm wrong. However, you can create customized firmware that runs on the Apple firmware and prepackage it so that it is installed as a single package (including activate, jailbreak, and unlock). If Apple makes changes to the underlying structures of the iPhone in newer firmware releases (as it did by adding the "mobile" structure in firmware 1.1.3), then the apps to be installed would have to be modified before being packaged witht he customized firmware - that is my guess. So if an app is not made to run correctly with the new firmware release, it will still crash regardless of whether or not it is licensed. However, it will not crash if the crash would be caused solely due to the fact that it is licensed by Apple.

Yeah i know that a windows version would come out, but i wanted to use it as soon as it became publically available so i decided to emulate mac os on my windows system so i could use the pwnage tool as soon as it came out.

What I find interesting is it appears (without timing it exactly) that the pwning of the phone initially takes a good 30 seconds and the flashing of bootloader
and baseband by BootNeuter takes another 30-60 seconds for each unlike the heavily edited first video which made it look almost instant!
