hi all

I have activated my own phone with iActivator... No problems. Now I want to activate an other one but when I connect it I get the pairing issue-error. What should I do to resolve this issue? OSX must be paired with a single phone somehow. I tried to create a new user but the problem was still there.

Jacob

iActivator is at the end of it's life. I'll be making all future bugfixes to iNdependence from now on, so you should grab that if you haven't already.

That said, iNdependence will still have the same issue. So I'm going to take out the code which checks and validates pairing and see if everything still works. If so, then I will release a new version of iNdependence.

that sounds great! I haven't tried it, but I will. Could you please tell us what causes it? Just so that I can work around it to activate the second phone.

Thanks in advance.

Check your private messages. I have a special build for you to test with. Let me know how it works out.

I used iNdependence on two iPhone. One worked fine, the other had the pairing issue. Both were on 1.02. Both had a full restore. Go figure..

ok, jriff tested the special version of iNdependence I built which didn't have the pairing check in it, and it still failed.

So it would appear that, in order to use any of the functionality in Apple's MobileDevice library (ie. what iActivator/iNdependence use to interact with the phone), you need to have a paired phone.

Long story short: you can't use iActivator/iNdependence with an unpaired phone.

What exactly is a paired phone?

I'm having the same issue from time to time.

Today I wanted to put my iPhone in jailbreak mode.

Started iNdependence, clicked on Perform Jailbreak
After resetting the phone as instructed, iNdependence displayed the message "jailbreak succeeded"
Then I got the error "error paired..." (can't remember the exact message).

From then on, everything started to behave weirdly on the phone, it was reacting extremely slowly. Finally after a reboot, i was stuck at the apple logo during boot time.

It took me a while to put it in recovery mode to finally being able to reflash the firmware.

It's not the first time this has happened to me and I had to completely do a system restore
Any ideas?

It has happened to me again.
Here are the steps:

-Do a full restore with iTunes
-Kill all itunes process
-Perform a jailbreak
-Activate the phone
-Install SSH
-Change root password
-Return to Jail
-Start itunes and perform a restore then re-sync
-Quit iTunes
-Perform a jailbreak
-iNdependence will tell me that jailbreak has succeeded, but then give me a connection error.
-When I plug the iPhone again, the only option available is "perform Jailbreak"
-Perform jailbreak

Now my iphone is almost unresponsive.
If I disconnect/Reconnect the iPhone, I get a "Connection failed: airing error"

Require full restore :(

Ok, it seems that this issue of iNdependence not recognising that the phone has just been jailbreaked also happens with iActivator.

Doing a series of jailbreak on/off will require the iPhone to be fully restored

What exactly is a paired phone?A paired phone is one which has been set up to sync with iTunes. I believe (but I'm not sure) that only one phone can be paired with iTunes at a time. If you connect a phone to your computer which hasn't been paired with iTunes yet, then you can't use any jailbreak/activation tools with it at all. That's the issue here.

Open iTunes and plug your iPhone.
Then use iActivator.

Hi All!

With the help of the Operator I have found the solution for using iActivator/iNdependence with 2..n phones.

1. Close iTunes
2. Disconnect any phone
3. Go to ~/Library/Lockdown
4. Move the plist file (there will be only one) to somewhere else (eg. a dir on your desktop)
5. Plug in the second phone
6. Open iTunes (if it doesn't open by itself)
7. Let iTunes find the phone (showing the activation screen)
8. Close iTunes
9. Open iActivator/iNdependence and have fun

To reactivate the pairing with the old phone - simply close iTunes, unplug phone and replace the file in ~/Library/Lockdown with the one you copied.

Yeah, no advanced stuff there - you might be able to make iNdependence do the moving if you want to make it automatic, but I guess people should be able to figure this out. You could put it in the readme file, perhaps.

Thanks for your help and for making the program!

help!!!Yes, there seems to be some sort of issue when you jailbreak and unjailbreak a few times with the new firmware. I've tested this scenario on older versions of the firmware, but not with the latest one. I'll be looking into that very soon.

For now, just try to restore using iTunes and then avoid jailbreaking and unjailbreaking too many times (I personally leave my phone jailbroken all the time).

Hello "The Operator"! I am using iNDEPENDANCE for Jailbreaking (no problems). But I cannot activate the iPhone, always the error "FAILURE: Activation failed with code -402653165." appears. Trying again and again, returning to jail again jailbreaking is not leading to success! Can you give me any advice how to solve this? Phone was never activated before!

I had the same problem, removing (or just moving) the files from your user/Library/Lockdown directory, reconnecting to itunes (so it creates another file), close itunes and try again, this worked for me.

I am having this problem at the moment I've been able to restore a few times but everytime I try and jailbreak so I can activate the phone it freaks out. I never had this problem till today and I've restored and jailbroken/unjailbroken a few times now.
