I have been waiting/dying for a tablet Macintosh machine for the last few years. It would eliminate the need for a PocketPC and bring convenience to using iCal and everything out and about.

Has anyone had success at using or building a tablet PC with complete compatibility with OS X? Any help or input or direction would be wonderful.

Thought this was very interesting:

From http://accelerateyourmac.com/

TabletMagic (Open source OS X driver for serial Wacom tablets) -
" Mike, While rummaging through Device driver downloads at Apple, I noticed a new beta release of Scott Lahteine's, "TabletMagic", the 'Open Source (free) driver that supports serial Wacom tablets under Mac OS X':
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/tabletmagic.html
however, the information presented on that page is wrong. TabletMagic is NOT, I repeat NOT 677 MB of data. That is a typo !!! The file is 641 KB (kilobytes not megabytes) = (short download).
TabletMagic 2 is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.2 and higher:
(Download Page:) http://thinkyhead.com/tabletmagic/download.php
and now supports Intuos (GD-xxxx-R) Serial Tablets:
http://thinkyhead.com/tabletmagic/about.php

The SourceFORGE location is:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tabletmagic/

I have a serial Intuos GD-1212-R Tablet (12x12) that is used with a G4 Tower running OS 9.2.2 through a Keyspan USA28x USB / Serial converter and with a SGI.
Using TabletMagic allowed my Tablet to work under OS X 10.3.9 and from what I have read, it works fine with 10.4.7.

I have only tested PhotoShop at this time, was very pleased to see how well the 'pressure sensitivity' worked with the pen, and ;-) (fwiw) this message was sent to you using the tablet.
Thanks to Scott Lahteine and friends for 'pushing forward' with TabletMagic.

It was a custom built tablet mac, based on an iBook G4.

trolltouch.com makes touchscreens and drivers specially for macs.

pretty slick if you have the $$ to do it. ive seen 2 ibooks cannibalized to become a iTab (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=101) as munky has stated beore
