Hi everyone!
I have a simple question for you guys. I'm wondering what type of games you would like to see on the iPhone. Take a minut before you answer.
Ofcourse it's very much about the accelerometer. But also, would you like a game that is easy to start and quit or would you want one that you'll have to sink into, eg an rpg. Which current games do you think would fit on the iPhone. We have the obvious ones like Monkey Ball and such but what other games, and how would you convert the controls to fit the iPhone.

I'm currently interested in games that you'll be able to start and quit at anytime. Fast pased action games of some sort maybe. Also a puzzle game like Professor Layton for the DS would be cool on the iPhone. I'm tired of all the puzzle games where it's all about getting four balls in a row sort of thing. I'm sure it'll make money but it's already done and pretty boring.

So lets hear it. What type of games would you like to see for the iPhone?

Eager to hear from you guys =)

For an easy starting point, PacMan would be nice, haven't seen one yet. Just be aware, although accelerometer is cool sometimes it just doesn't work, the app "15" on Installer looks good but I find it unplayable due to it's accelerometer based controls, they're too inaccurate and it would be a lot quicker to just touch and drag.

yeah i was thinking about pacman aswell as something worth trying out.

OK so i tried the game "15" and as you say it's pretty unplayable.

That's the sad part about a lot of games for the iphone, that you think that just because you have the accelerometer you'll have to use it.

i would like to see a driving game that you use the phone as the steering wheel - (hold the phone with screen facing you), and not a GT4 or Forza2 style game but a fun rally game or something that gives feedback with vibrations and you turn the phone like a steering wheel and brake and accelerate buttons would be by your thumbs (top left and top right of the screen)

yeah a driving game like that could be pretty cool. One could try having sliders for acc etc on the side. You don't want to have awkward handpositions but worth a try.

Missile Command (Common... Touch to shoot them down... it was cool...)
Drug Wars (Old school palm game... would be a great and relatively simple port)

There are a lot of games on websites like addictinggames.com, that are just a simple point and click game... but could be ported to the phone and actually be a lot of fun. (I'll sight, "Defend Your Castle"... for anyone who hasn't played it... http://www.addictinggames.com/defendyourcastle.html). I've also seen quite a few other people make mention of games that they've found on websites like these... all of which would be really nice.

I was also thinking that to save space... and to add a lot of more interesting features to these kinds of games... since there isn't a static keypad/controller/etc., that a neat way of doing games like doom... or maybe even gta3 (that would be so bad ass... and it isn't too far fetched... the PSP got liberty city stories... and SPORE is being made available for the iPhone)... is to have the game laid out like it normally is... but then allow the end user to change controls... and have a semi-transparent overlay for the controls themselves. I'll try to post a picture... hopefully you understand what i'm saying...

http://one.xthost.info/endieko/iphone-GTA3.png

Basically, you can change the transparency of the controller overlay... so you can do things like... run, aim, switch weapons, jump, and pull people out of cars, and of course... shoot, and then there is a slider to change weapons forward, or backwards very simply. The controls can be made transparent... and be rearranged in any way that the user wants... and then once they get used to the controls can be set to 100% transparent, and they can just run their fingers over the top of the screen to control what is going on in the game itself...

Then, because the controls can be made dynamic... you can change the way you control yourself when you're driving the car differently and arrange that as you see fit as well...

Also, and i'm sure no one has ever played this game before... but the 2nd installment of the Elder Scrolls series, "Daggerfall", was an incredible game, that really didn't get enough coverage when it was originally released... and is by no means graphically intensive. It was cool because you could right click (and drag) with your mouse, and the way that you dragged your mouse was how the character swung their weapon... very innovative at the time. But something like that would be an awesome little addition as well :)

Counter strike would be so awesome.

Singstar! (google it)

COD4 would be so kick ass

Halo

As you might know by now, I prefer shooter games.

Grand Turismo would probably be a good idea.

- Let's see if EA will port Need For speed to the iPhone

I'd love to see somebody trying to make a FPS using the accelerometers.

I mean, in order to look left, right, up and down you'd have to tilt the iPhone, instead of pressing some button in the screen. I don't know what would be the best way to do it, but I'm pretty sure with some work you could get a responsive interface.

Cool, thnx for the replies guys =) Apreciate it.

@xMemphisx: I see what you're saying and it's actually pretty good =) I'd like to simplyfy the controls even further. Eg to open a car you could just pull the iphone backwards in a fast move or something. Also you wouldn't be restricted by digital direction sticks. You could have a controler to resemble an analog one so you'd get more directions.

Oh yes! Daggerfall! I remember that game =) Didn't play it much myself but a friend of mine payed it a lot back in the days. It was truly awsome =)

@Reycat: A FPS game would as you say be a challenge and it'd be truly awsome if someone would come up with an easy control setup.

I think that for the iPhone all those small and simple games will win in the long run. It should be kept simple. I'd love to see games for more hardcore players aswell tho but those would be more expensive to develop and take much longer time to make.

Such a brilliant idea! Im always looking forward to games that utilize iphone's accelerometer!

Counterstrike all all these games would be really hard to manover IMO...
I would like to see turn based games instead of time based game such as

Heroes of might and magic 1 or 2

Games like these would be more fun on iPhone IMO... Since I know how hard it was to stere your char in NES/PSX/GBA... Also Road Tycoon or whatever it's called was also really hard to stere...

I am surprized no one has made a golf game yet, something similar to the pool game for lining up the shot and speed control.
