Do not post app compiled on your computer,
it contains your user account name.
Apple can track you if your account name is your real name.

If you feel concerned by privacy, you can use a hex editor to xxxxxxxx the user name in the binary before posting it.

Why should they track us down? The SDK is free and anyone can compile it himself.

Sure it's free, but the only legal way to get it is register as a Dev to Apple.

I guess many people are downloading it from another way.

So when they build apps while they are not registered dev and you can see the account name in the app, do i need to draw you something ?

Yes, but the Registration as iPhone Dev is for free, so everybody can register himself as a Developer without paying any Fees or something ;) And as registered Developer you can also access all Codesamples and many more.

But enough said, its just my Opinion.

It's not totally free, if you sign up you have to give a lot of personal information to Apple

A lot of personal info that you could just 'make up', if you're so worried about privacy.

Steve Jobs in the Keynote (you can check the video) made it clear about the security, if you want your app to be put in the App Store, they want you to pay 99$ so they can get your real identity and in case you put a malware or malicious code in your app they can track you down and take legal actions.

So i don't think they don't care if you make up your identity while registering.
If they find out you did, they can suspend your account and maybe more (check the terms of agreement if you have any doubt about it).

I'm not sure, but can we host apps by ourselves like we did on installer?

Yes, the name is in, but you can change it before the building of the app, or remove if you wish. Edit the project setting and change the install owner under build if you wish. By default the project set up the account name for the owner.

So, it is not something to track developers or similar. It is used to set also the privileges. As you see there is also the group etc.

You've lost me on the logic behind this one, people are downloading the SDK by torrent or whatever because they don't want to give Apple their details I understand. Filling in false details to download directly from Apple I get too, except that gives you access to more support files and videos etc. So far neither option will allow you to put apps onto iTunes and Apple won't know who you are.
You now decide to go legit and pay the $99 to Apple to get a spot in iTunes, neither of the two options above will allow you to do that, you've still got to register a new account with Apple and apply for the full developer status.

Seems to me the best way to go, if you're paranoid, is to register with false details and take full benefit of free access to the developer resources. Unless of course you are really paranoid and believe that Apple are keeping records of all IP addresses accessing the developer site, if that's the case then an anonymous proxy should do the trick. But remember, just because you paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.;)
