I am going to the states this weekend, and I am thinking about buying an iPhone.
I plan on just using the ipod and adding some apps. I am thinking that I will use iActivator to activate.
But my question is:
Will I be able to activate mine with rogers when their service is available?
If so, how?
Thanks

Well... When I went down to get mine I made the mental decision that it may never be unlocked, Canada may never get it and if it does show up, I may need a new phone. If all thats ok with you, enjoy your trip.
Right now its locked to you know who... I imagine for it to work up here IF Canada gets it; your phone will require some sort of software/firmware upgrade. Maybe Apple will offer it via iTunes, maybe it will be at the provider level. Hey, Apple may even send out some fancy smancy sims (say that 10x) that will work with the phone but be on Rogers.
I guess you have figured out that the answer to your question is currently unknown, but if your comfy with my first paragraph then who cares. You can sell it if the time comes, you can get another one as well.
Its not so bad as an iPod, people just have issues cause it can do more. If it was a 600dollar iPod it would still sell and people would be happy.
FWIW it a heck of a lot more than just an iPod. With all the apps that are coming out the possibilities are endless.

I picked mine up in the States as well. Keep one thing in mind, this device comes to you with no guarantees. No guarantee that it would even function as an iPod. There could be a software upgrade tomorrow turning it into a paperweight. I thought alot before purchasing it, and I love it. If it ever does become available with Rogers, it would have to be through Rogers, and don't count on using it. Rogers could unveil the iPhone in Canada next week, but that does not mean you will be able to use your ATT iPhone with the service. You have to have a lot of balls or a lot of money to buy one. It's a huge gamble. I doubt its coming our way anytime soon. The Canadian Market is not ready for unlimited data.

rogers backed down from the bargaining table because they are in no way going to allow unlimited data, just as mentioned above

I was in Nova Scotia for 7 days this month. The Edge connection with Rogers was very, very slow. Roaming in Canada/Nova Scotia with the at&t activated iPhone using Edge when there was no wi-fi caused my FIRST iPhone bill to be higher than my mortgage payment. Live and learn.

If you buy an iPhone from the States now and Rogers does decide to carry it, chances are you would be able to update the firmware on the AT&T phone with a firmware dump from a Rogers phone which would allow you to use it on Rogers.
Of course, the hardware unlock works 100% and you could just buy one and use it now. I am...
