Unlock
02-10-2008, 10:03 PM
For first you need:
* iPhone any version
* WiFi (wireless) access to Internet on iPhone
* Windows PC or MAC with Internet access

Before start, it is highly recommended to carefully read sections Terms Used and the Notes, from the end of this tutorial

Step 1. Determine bootloader version:

a. In dialpad, dial *3001#12345#* and press Call
b. Look at versions, Firmware versions. If:
04.03.13_G - then is OTB 1.1.3 iPhone (Bootloader 4.6)
04.02.13_G - then is OTB 1.1.2 iPhone (Bootloader 4.6)
04.01.13_G - then is OTB 1.1.1 iPhone (Bootloader 3.9)
03.14.08_G - then is OTB 1.0.2 iPhone (Bootloader 3.9)
Note. This is a preliminary method to determine the bootloader version. It assumes your iPhone was not suffering any baseband upgrade / downgrade operations. The accurate method is described later.

Step 2. Restore iPhone to firmware 1.1.1:

a. download 1.1.1 firmware from here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-3883.20070927.In76t/iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw)
b. Put iPhone in Restore mode by pressing and holding down simultaneously the power button and the home button until iphone screen goes black then release power button and keep pressing home button button for another 30 sec. Launch iTunes if it is not started yet;
c. press Shift + Restore on Windows (or Alt + Restore on Mac) and choose the firmware downloaded at line a

Step 2.1. Jailbreak + Activate 1.1.1
d. in DialPad, dial: *#301# then tap Call. Then delete with backspace the string *#301#, then Dial 0, tap Call, tap Answer, then tap Hold.
e. go to Contacts, tap + to add a new contact . At First Last type A, then tap on Add new URL and type prefs: then tap Save. Tap on Add new URL and type i.unlock.no. Tap on Save.
f. Now tap on prefs: and go in Menu to General, set Auto-Lock to Never, then go to Settings, Wifi and choose a Wifi network with Internet access;
g. press Home button;
h. Dial 0 in DialPad, next tap on Answer, the tap on Hold, next choose A from Contacts, then tap on i.unlock.no.
i. from the Safari tap on Tap here to jailbreak your iPhone
j. Wait until iPhone reboot itself.

Step 3. Unlock iPhone

Step 3.1 At first, check again the bootloader version, using the following method:
a. add source http://www.trejan.com/irepo in Installer. Do refresh
b. Install Baseband Info (bbinfo). Launch BBInfo from Springboard and check Bootloader Version at Baseband category.
From now on, you MUST use this Bootloader version as the REAL version

For bootloader 4.6:
- from Installer - System - choose BSD Subsystem and install it;
- from Installer - Tweaks (1.1.3) - choose 1.1.2-1.1.3 OTB G-Unlock, install it and follow the instructions
- go ONCE to Step 4 (don't repeat it after)
- from Installer - Tweaks 1.1.2, choose iWorld, then launch it from Springboard and choose your country. Reboot iPhone.

For bootloader 3.9:
- FIRST follow ONCE Step 4 (don't repeat it after);
- from Installer, choose AnySIM 1.2.1u from Utilities category;
- from Settings - set Airplane mode to ON;
- Launch anySIM from Springboard and follow the instructions;
- from Settings - set Airplane mode to OFF;
- from Installer - Tweaks 1.1.2, choose iWorld, then launch it from Springboard and choose your Country. Reboot iPhone.

Step 4. Upgrade to firmware 1.1.2
a. from Installer - Tweaks (1.1.1) - choose Oktoprep and follow the instructions;
b. download firmware 1.1.2 from here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4037.20071107.5Bghn/iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw)
c. launch iTunes, press Shift + Update on Windows or Alt + Update on Mac, then choose the file downloaded at line b
d. download jailbreak 1.1.2 from here (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip) and unzip to a folder
e. launch Windows.bat and the press Jailbreak button - on Windows (or double-click jailbreak.jar on Mac). iPhone will restart a couple of times (on Windows, if you cannot acces your iPhone after doing line then launch windows.bat again an press Boot from recovery).

Notes.
n1. If your iPhone have firmware 1.1.3 OTB, then:
- download firmware 1.1.2 from here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4037.20071107.5Bghn/iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw)
- launch iTunes, press Shift + Restore on Windows (or Alt + Restore on Mac), then choose the firmware downloaded now;
- jump to Step 2
n2. If your iPhone have firmware1.1.2 OTB, then:
- go to Step 2
n3. If your iPhone already have 1.1.1 firmware:
- if isn't jailbroken, then jump to Step 2.1
- if it is jailbroken, then go directly to Step 3
n4. If your iPhone already have 1.0.2:
- jump to Step 2
n5. If your iPhone was already unlocked with iPhoneSimFree (aka IPSF) then it have the 3.9 bootloader and the baseband is update resistant (the unlock is Permanent). In order to do the jailbreak and activate you can follow the steps described here EXCEPT the Step 3.
n6. If the baseband was already unlocked with older methods, before firmware 1.1.1 (eg iUnlock, anySIM 1.0...), then maybe it need an "revirginize" operation. Do it following this:
- add source http://i.unlock.no in Installer if wasn't present yet :) and do a Refresh
- point to The Virginizer from Installer - category Unlocking Tools and read VERY CAREFULLY at More Info. Install it and strictly follow the instructions. At the end you will need to Restore to 1.1.1 (equivalent to Step 2 in this tutorial), so, after that, you will need to continue directly from the Step 2.1 in this tutorial.
n7. it is recommended to use a SIM card without PIN (put your SIM card to other phone and disable the PIN)
n8. if your iPhone was updated “by mistake” to 1.1.4 firmware, then put iPhone to DFU mode:
- Power Off iPhone ;
- press and keep pressing Power and Home simultaneously;
- when the Apple logo appears (white apple), release the Power button, but keep pressing the Home button;
- open iTunes if it isn't open already and wait for a message who tells you iPhone is in restore mode;
- press Shift + Restore on Windows (or Alt + Restore on Mac) and choose 1.1.3 firmware from here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4061.20080115.4Fvn7/iPhone1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw)
- go to note 1 - n1
If you have 3.9 bootloader, in order to unlock do:
- in Installer -> Install -> Clarified -> Unlock (1.1.4) - tap on Install (if you haven't iClarified category, then add the source http://installer.iclarified.com in Installer -> Sources)
If you already have 3.9 bootloader unlocked with IPSF then you are lucky: IPSF resist on 1.1.4. too.

Hi everyone,

Im new here, I have been watching these forums for a while now with great interest and I would love to get involved now.

I've just bought my own iphone but I have not activated it yet. This post has me intrigued, will this method of unlocking the iphone work on UK versions. By all versions I am assuming it will work on any version worldwide, hence I can unlock my iphone bought here in the UK.

thanks

Iam new here too, if you have time to take a look on some tuts and sticky, you will find out what you need, first; is that brand New in factory sealed, if yes, is many solution here or iclarified site ( hint: look for something..OTB), but if your phone is used and has upgraded/downgraded before, I have no idea, right now I have this problem.
I did great on my OTB 4.6 1.1.2 by the tut here on "How to Unlocked iphone for newbies.." but that is "old" now since there is ziphone...(ziphone is everywhere in iphone forums (that make my head "spinning")

i am concerned... I have a 1.1.1 OTB which now has 04.03.13_G modem firmware due to restore in itunes previously.

Is it not dangerous to follow the steps of the 1.1.3 OTB unlock for my iphone?

Yours indeed not 1.1.3 OTB, mostly you have 3.9 BL. Take a look on the Ziphone thing, you will find what you get there. A lot reading help you to avoid that dangerous thing. I've been reading and took 3 tylenol already.

You may search on forums, there are some good tutorials for how to downgrade to 1.1.1. an accidentally upgraded 3.9 iPhone to 1.1.3, then you may continue from Step 2.1 :)

Hey,

I'm a little stuck, I've got to point where I have to run oktoprep but I cannot find it anywhere in installer
Can't see "Tweaks (1.1.1)" anywhere ..

Step 4. Upgrade to firmware 1.1.2
a. from Installer - Tweaks (1.1.1) - choose Oktoprep and follow the instructions;
b. download firmware 1.1.2 from here
c. launch iTunes, press Shift + Update on Windows or Alt + Update on Mac, then choose the file downloaded at line b
d. download jailbreak 1.1.2 from here and unzip to a folder
e. launch Windows.bat and the press Jailbreak button - on Windows (or double-click jailbreak.jar on Mac). iPhone will restart a couple of times (on Windows, if you cannot acces your iPhone after doing line then launch windows.bat again an press Boot from recovery).

Thanks.

Weird. I followed the entire step needed. Manage to downgrade to v1.1.1 and installed AppTap.

I also manage to install oktopre at the last part before continue update to v1.1.2.

What come up is after I updated it to v.1.1.2 ( as I think so coz it show “ ….error occurred (1015) on the final ), I try to launch the jailbreak v1.1.2. It run a while then it stuck there saying “ You must install oktopre before you upgrade to v1.1.2”…..i pressed “ok” …it discontinue.

I try check my phone version, it state there 04.03.13_G. I checked and found that it is OTB 1.1.3 iPhone (Bootloader 4.6) from the forum.

Do I need another way to jailbreak? Anyone have solution on this?

After running 1.1.2-1.1.3 OTB G-Unlock, you must GO to step 4 (upgrade to 1.1.2 procedure) and follow the instructions BEFORE install iWorld. iWorld is designed only for 1.1.2 firmware.

Ok guys, I would just like some clarification, and for some reason, what sould otherwise be accessable, clear and concise information, seems to elude me at the moment.

I ordered an iPhone on Ebay from the States to Canada.

The phone was manufactured in the 39 th week which should deem it as a 3.9 Bootloader with 1.1.1 Firmeware OTB if I am not mistaken.

The phone was upgraded to 1.1.3 (04.03.13_G) and activated by the original owner, but had not been Jailbreaked or Unlocked. I, of course would like ot have it unlocked.

According to iPhoneinCanada.ca, I should be able to use ZiPhone to activate and jailbreak, then use AnySIM 1.3 to unlock the phone.

I opened ZiPhone, followed the instrcutions and did just that; (Re)-Activated and Jailbreaked the Phone.

So, a few questions....

1. How can I know for certain it has now been Jailbreaked and Activated properly?

2. Do I need to downgrade back to 1.1.1 before unlocking?

3. If the above questions are answered, do I simply then download the AnySim sofware and follow the instuctions?

4. I don't have my SIM Card yet, can I unlock the phone without it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Jd

You should upgrade to 1.1.4, the recent firmware. To do so, first get the firmware file, download it to your Mac/PC.
Download link here: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056

Download iLiberty (for Mac or Windows) then here: http://theiphoneproject.org/index.php/downloads?func=select&id=14

Put your iPhone in DFU mode
1. hold power + home
2. in a few sec, red slider appears, continue holding til phone reboot
3. count to 6
4. let go power
5. keep holding home until itunes detect it or if you hear a connection tone (like plugging in a usb device on Windows), let go of home.

Screen should be black all the time beginning at step 3

If itunes say it need to check for "... version on the server..", let it check, after that you will see the restore button. shift-click restore (Option-click on Mac) and select the 1.1.4 FW you downloaded in step 1.
At the end it will be restored to 1.1.4 locked.

To Jailbraek, Activate, Ulock you now use iLiberty.
There are 2 excellent tutorials how to use iLiberty for Mac or PC, pick the one that meets your needs and jailbreak, activate, unlock your iPhone with firmware 1.1.4
Mac: http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=847
PC: http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=849

cause your iPhone used to be on firmware 1.1.1 when you got it, it came with bootloader 3.9. So in iLiberty check all boxes exept "Unlock with 3.9FB" (Mac), "Downgrade Bootloader from 4.6..." (Windows). This operation is not necessary cause you have bootloader 3.9, its only for newer bootloader 4.6.

enjoy your free iPhone

I bought my Iphone 1.0.2 last October .. it was unlocked/jailbreak and ready to use with my sim .. since then I didn’t update it or play with these things coz I was afraid to break it .. anyway few weeks ago I did update installer and it didn’t work well after the update .. so today I decided to upgrade my Iphone to 1.1.4 firmware .. I used ZiPhone to download 1.1.4 file and then update through iTunes .. obviously it didn’t work then I tried 1.1.1 .. the update went fine but when I reached the step of activating the phone everything crashed .. I wasn’t following these steps I thought it will automatically update and that’s it :confused:

Now my phone stuck I don’t know how to deal with it .. whenever I open it; it brings up words and numbers in a black screen (reminds me with dos!!) it shows the same screen forever !! I can’t stop it only by pressing the power button and home button for a while .. what shall I do ??

Wow, almost everything went wrong here. You should have been reading here before getting into action. There are some things to keep in mind and some questions you have to answer before we can help you.

1. Your iPhone was at 1.0.2 and probably unlocked with AnySIM 1.0.2, can you confirm?
2. If so, before upgrading to any newer firmware you would have to virginize it to fix the corrupted seczone. There are many threads here in the forum.
3. You updated the Installer on the iPhone. The new one does not work with 1.0.2, that could have been fixed but you continued...
4. You used ZiPhone. The forum is full of users having a brick after using ZiPhone, we have stickies, everything.
5. You tried to restore the firmware to 1.1.4, that did not work, can you confirm that? 6. You restored to 1.1.1 then in iTunes, is that correct?
7. Did you try ZiPhone on 1.1.1 to activate?
8. Most important: What are the "words on the black screen" saying?
9. last not least, are you an a Mac or Windows PC?

Sorry, lots of questions but we need the information.

volkspost .. Thanx for ur immediate response .. I appreciate it
Now I recognize how stupid I was for not reading before doing what I did .. I just was too lazy to search and read :(

Anyway here are the answers u asked for:
1. Your iPhone was at 1.0.2 and probably unlocked with AnySIM 1.0.2, can you confirm?
hmm i'm not sure coz i bought it unlocked and didn't ask the seller .. i'm sure it's 1.0.2 though

2. If so, before upgrading to any newer firmware you would have to virginize it to fix the corrupted seczone. There are many threads here in the forum.
unfortunately i didn't know about this step !

3. You updated the Installer on the iPhone. The new one does not work with 1.0.2, that could have been fixed but you continued...
yeah .. whenever i click the Installer button it shows white screen, Installer in the refreshing state, after few seconds it take me back to the home screen !
another reason why i wanted to upgrade is not receiving sms from the bank or service provider

4. You used ZiPhone. The forum is full of users having a brick after using ZiPhone, we have stickies, everything.
yes, there are posts about Ziphone but i couldn't find a solution to my situation !

5. You tried to restore the firmware to 1.1.4, that did not work, can you confirm that?
yes, first i tried to restore to 1.1.4 through iTunes of course but iTunes kept giving me errors .. then i did some research and found out that i have to restore it first to 1.1.1 and that's what i did

6. You restored to 1.1.1 then in iTunes, is that correct?
correct, after the restoring was completed in iTunes .. iphone boosted the earth image and i think "slide to emergency" .. when i slide the tap the dial screen came up .. i didn't know what to do so i just shut the phone .. i think i ruined everything from here
after that i guess when i opened it the black screen with words and numbers came up <- i'm not sure if this happened in this step or the following one :confused:

7. Did you try ZiPhone on 1.1.1 to activate?
i connected to Ziphone and clicked on the activate button but i guess nothing happened coz it couldn't connect and iTunes didn't recognize it too

8. Most important: What are the "words on the black screen" saying?
first it brings up many sentences and numbers very fast and then it keeps saying the same statement which is:
BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
i captured some images but they are not clear and i don't know how to attach them here (couldn't find the attachment icon :confused:)

9. last not least, are you an a Mac or Windows PC?
i use Windows PC

i hope i can fix my :iphone: .. i just started using it and love it

i hope i can fix my :iphone: .. i just started using it and love it

OK, the good news first: I would guess this can be fixed. the bad news - it will take some time. If you would still be on 1.0.2 it would take you about 15 minutes to virginize, then 1 hour to get to firmware 1.1.4 and unlock the iPhone.

The plan now is: We will bring you to firmware 1.1.1, locked iPhone. Then you will jailbreak and activate it, get BSD Subsystem and Installer on it and virginize the iPhone then. This can be done at 1.0.2 or 1.1.1.
After that is done you will restore to firmware 1.1.4 and do the jailbreak/avtivate/unlock.

OK, thats what I'd like you to do. We have to get out of the "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0", thats probaly caused by ZiPhone aswell.

First get the firmware 1.1.1 here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056

Download it to your PC.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your iPhone, update if necessary.

Now, getting out of BSD root....

1. Disconnect iPhone from your PC/Mac if not done already.
2. Hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down. Put it aside.
3. Start iTunes on your PC/Mac and make sure to have the latest version. If not, upgrade.
4. On the iPhone press Home button and keep holding it while connecting the iPhone to your PC/Mac.
5. Keep holding Home button until iTunes finds the iPhone in recovery mode. Restore to 1.1.1 by holding the shift key of your keyboard and - while stil holding shift - klick "Restore in iTunes. A Window will pop up and let you choose a firmware file. Choose the one you downloaded and give it a go.

Please report back when done. You will be at 1.1.1 firmware with a locked iPhone then (showing the earth and slide to emergency only - thats where we want you to be for now.)

Please report back when done, next steps will follow then. I will be here more or les during the next hours, just offline every now and then

Download latest version of iLiberty for Windows (1.3.0.113) here
http://theiphoneproject.org/index.php/downloads?func=select&id=14

The place where you downloaded firmware 1.1.1 has a link to firmware 1.1.4, get this one aswel, we will need it later.

The following is a modified version from another thread. In part 2 of getting you setup, we will jailbreak, activate your iPhone at firmware 1.1.1 and get Installer and BSD Subsystem on it.

1 Install iLiberty+
2 Start iLiberty+
3 Goto iLiberty menu "Tools" and select "Options". A new window pops up
4 Select "Check repo at startup" and hit "OK"
5 Quit iLiberty and start it again
6 iLiberty will refresh the repo lists via Internet connection
7 Hit tab "Advanced" (on top)
8 Hit tab "Available on Repo" (on the bottom)
9 Activate (check box) "Installer" and "BSD Subsystem"
10 Hit botton "Download" (bottom right)
11 iLiberty will download the two. Tab "Local" (on the bottom) should read "Local (7)" now
12 Hit tab "Local (7)" on the bottom
13 Activate (check box) "Installer" and "BSD Subsystem"
14 Bottom tab "Selected" should read now "Selected (2)"
15 Hit top tab "Standard".
16 Activate (check box) "Jailbreak" (already activated) and "Activate" - nothing else!
17 Connect the iPhone to your PC
18 If your photo app starts, just quit it
19 If iTunes starts, don't quit it, just "park" it in the task bar. If iTunes does not start automatically, start it manually and park it in the task bar
20 In iLiberty hit the button "Go for it!"
21 iLiberty will pop up a window telling you something like "We are going to reboot device into recovery..."
22 Do what the dialog says: You have to disconnect the iPhone and then reconnect. Hit the "OK" button then.
23 Let iLiberty do it's job, text will scroll on your iPhone screen, you will end with a jailbroken, activated iPhone at 1.1.1 all needed software for the virginizing process on it.
24 iTunes might popup every now and then, just drop it back to the task-bar

When done disconnect the iPhone from the PC. Setup connection from your iPhone to your Wi-Fi router and report back. Dont do anything else for now.

Please first read and do all the steps with no rush, take your time, thats the secret.

I guess you should.
When you get to the point again where it says disconnect-reconnect, this time just disconnect, count to 5 and then reconnect. In windows you should hear a sound on both actions. Like when you connect or disconnect any other usb device. Then hit the ok button in the dialog.

just get out of BSD... and restore to 1.1.1 again and do it again. happens sometimes, have had that before, dont worry

Nooooo, dont use ZiPhone ever, you will probably screw up your iPhone!

The iPhone is jailbroken and activated, otherwise you would not see the apps.

Let iphone and PC connected.
Start iLiberty and this time go to tab "Advanced" (top), then "Local" (bottom) and activate Installer and BSD subsystem. Then switch to top tap "Standard", just let "Jailbreak" be actvated, nothing else. Hit "Go for it" then again, should be working. Text will be scrolling again.

Please dont push things if you want your iPhone working!

All we are doing now is cause you have to virginize before restoring to 1.1.4, you might have a brick otherwise. That could have been done at 1.0.2 easyly but you already upgraded and got stucked. So please dont push and do what I suggest. i have helped many users in this situation all have a working 1.1.4 iPhone on the end.

OK, YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: I'll either leave you here or continue helping you. It should be easy to understand: you have to virginize before restoring to 1.1.4.

When you retried, did step 14 fit?
Bottom tab "Selected" should read now "Selected (2)"

It has to, otherwise you wont get the two payloads BSD Subsystem and Installer on the iPhone. Did you
12 Hit tab "Local (8)" on the bottom
13 Activate (check box) "Installer" and "BSD Subsystem"
???

You will have to do it again.

I never experienced iLiberty leaving the iPhone in recovery mode, sorry. the reason we need Installer and BSD Subsystem is that we have to use both at 1.1.1 to virginize - thats it.

If I were you I would restore the iphone in itunes again to 1.1.1 and give it another try. Thats the best choice you have. You will get Installer on 1.1.1, maybe trying to add the payloads several times screwed up things.
So, if you have the time, start iTunes (latest version, update if not) and restore to firmware 1.1.1.
Start the iLiberty-thing from step 12 and make sure to complete all the steps. iLiberty got the iPhone jailbroken and activated, otherwise you would not see the apps on the iPhone, installer should be among them.

So, if you want to, go for it. It's 1:20 am where I am now and I need some sleep for now.

Once you completed the task, are at 1.1.1 jailbroken and activated, with installer on the iphone you could continue with the following:

Things to make sure first:

You have established Wi-Fi access on your iPhone to your Wi-Fi-router and the internet.
Make sure during the following process, that the iPhone does not run out of power. Best would be to connect it to the PC to make sure it is powered. If iTunes pops up, quit it.

DONT RUSH NOW!!!!!

1. You MUST set Auto-Lock to "Never" (in Settings->General) on the iPhone!!!!!
2. Start Installer on the iPhone
3. If Installer wants to update itself, just ignore it.
4. In Installer goto "Sources" (on the bottom)
5. Add i.unlock.no to sources and refresh.
6. Quit and restart Installer. Update Installer might pop up again, just IGNORE it
7. Start Installer, goto "Install (on the bottom)->Unlocking Tools -> The Virginizer" and hit "Install"
8. Virginizing takes 10 minutes NEVER interrupt!
9. After its done, immediately start iTunes and restore to 1.1.4 (again hold Shift and choose 1.1.4 firmware NOT the 1.1.1!!!

You are at 1.1.4 firmware (locked) then, ready to jailbreak, activate and unlock.

You have two choices then. using iLiberty or Pwnage for Windows. In Pwnage section of the forum there are two stickies on pwnage, one general and one for windows. You should check both.

The other option would be iLiberty. To use iLiberty, goto this thread, it explains all step by step. Take your time, never rush and do what the tutorial says.

i've tried to redo the steps from the beginning several times .. yet i'm getting the same result !!

after activating through iLiberty (when the status bar shows 100% complete) the phone enters recovery mode .. if i leave it as it is, it wouldd disconnect automatically after a while and show on the iphone screen "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0"
but if i click on 'jump out of recovery mode' in iLiberty, text would scroll on the screen and apparently the phone would be activated as i can see the apps and use them but Installer is not there !!!!

what shall i do now ??
am I missing something here ??
is there another way to fix it ??

There is still something worng with your iPhone. It is not supposed to go into recovery mode after doing the procedure. Plus still getting "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0".

Cause we defenitely have Installer on your iPhone, there is only one way I could think of. It was used back in the days when 1.1.1 was introduced. So you would have to restore to 1.1.1 another time. Then all the procedure is just typing stuff on the iPhone. On the end you have an activated, jailbroken iphone with installer on it.

The procedure is here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42046
in post#2 named Detour 2. This could be your way out. If you decide to give it a shot, just make sure to stop at the point (step 22) that is mentioned. The steps after that one would unlock your iPhone at 1.1.1, but you will get stucked, cause the iPhone has to be virginized before.

I would recommend to give it a try.

I followed this procedure (Detour 2 ) and it worked very well .. then continued these steps:

15. Add i.unlock.no to sources and refresh.
16. Update Installer will pop up again, just IGNORE it
17. Start Installer, goto "Unlocking Tools -> The Virginizer" and hit "Install"
18. Virginizing takes 10 minutes NEVER interrupt!
19. After its done, immediately restore to 1.1.4 in iTunes, "setup as new phone", not "from backup"

After updating to 1.1.4 firmware iphone displayed connect to iTunes and ‘Slide to emergency’ on the screen :confused:

Now .. what steps I shall follow to activate/jailbreak/unlock my phone .. I’ve checked several threads here but can’t decide which one to undertake, as I don’t want to mess-up things after reaching this point

Great, thats exactly where you have to be for a fresh start. Your iPhone is virginized now and ready to be jailbroken, activated and unlocked at 1.1.4.
thats why it "only" shows the slide to emergency screen. It's now like an iPhone you have been recently buying.

The difficult and tricky part is over now. Whenever something goes wrong now, you dont put yout iPhone at risk - as long as you stay away from ZiPhone.

You do have two options now to follow on the way to the unlock. I have been writing up a tutorial to do this with iLiberty, you know it already. Should be working now for you, as the iPhone is at clean 1.1.4. The tutorial is here:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43569

The other option would be to use pwnage from the dev team. I used it on two of my iPhones, have been working with iLiberty on another one - its up to you. For pwnage check the FAQ/tutorial here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36686
for general information and here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41203
for the windows version.

Your iPhone is ready to go for both options, if I were you I would read both and go for the one that meets your needs. Both easy to do, both tested and working very well.

If you continue to do it step by step you will have your free up-to-date iPhone in about an hour (plus reading before). As I said before, dont rush, take your time.

I'll be back tomorrow here, need some sleep now, best

Hi,

I have read this thread and a few others and I _think_ I got it, but I am not 100% sure. So before bricking my iPhione[s], I wanted to ask this:

I have 1.1.1 OOB jailbroken with the old jailbreakme.com and unlocked with AnySIM. I want to update it to 2.1 using Pwnage Tool.

How do I go about it? Virginize to 1.1.1, upgrade to 1.1.4 and then run pwnage tool? Is the upgrade to 1.1.4 going to bring the BL to 4.6? Will it then behave like 1.1.4 OOB?

Thanks.

You can straight go ahead to 2.1 with PwnageTool 2.1. Virginizing is only for those having used AnySIM 1.0.2 at firmware 1.0.2. Your iPhone got unlocked with the "brave2 version of AnySIM.

Welcome back, you have been choosing the perfect timing!

Make sure to sync with iTunes (the version you have on your Mac/PC right now) first. Rhen update iTunes to version 8 if not done already. make sure aswell to use you favourite photo app to get photos you have been taken with the iPhone (sitting in camera roll now).

Connect Mac/PC and the iPhone and restore to Apple Firmware 2.1. You will be at 2.1 locked. The choice of the unlock method is determined then by the PC you are using PwnageTool 2.1 (Macintosh) or QuickPwn 2.1 (Windows). There are lots of stickies in the forum on how-to.

One tipp: Once you got your iPhone unlocked at fw 2.1 iTunes will - only on the first sync attempt - offer to restore data from a backup. Dont choose this option, choose "setup as a new iPhone" instead. If you dont you will get back old pref files that might cause trouble later. After setting up as a new iPhone, sync as usual to get your data back.
