hey as describes on this site:
http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_making_you_tube_work.html

the files needed are data_ark.plist, device_private_key.pem, and device_public_key.pem from an iphone with working youtube.

would anyone be willing to post up these files from their iphone?

Rather than this thread turning into another "I need them", "please send them to me", "my emails here", "pls PM them to me"... how about who ever actually gets them and wishes to share, post them for all.

For what its worth there have been many requests for these files which have been equally denied. Someone will eventually spread it just as the "private" activation token once was. ;)

I ran into some trouble with the instructions at:

http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_making_you_tube_work.html

I eventually got it working, but I had to do the following copy the device certificate found in data_ark.plist into activation_record.plist. I think data_ark.plist is generated after every reboot and is somehow created from activation_record.plist. The copy of activiation_record.list on my phone didn't have device certification in it (I used iActivator to activate it).

Now everything is working.

One thing that wasn't clear in the instructions was that you backup from /var/root/... and copy the new files into /private/var/root/... It was in the diagram, but wasn't explicitly called out in the instructions.

Use iPhoneInterface or the Mac equivalent to put the files linked on the first page onto your iPhone. Then just follow the Windows instructions but backup by renaming the old files and copying the replacement files to /var/root/Library/Lockdown.. Or use my script ;) (untested, but should work).

Hey guys,
I tried copying the files but the lockdownd service located at "/usr/libexec"
always overwrite the file "data_ark.plist" on the iphone startup.
So on every startup I loose the changes made to the "data_ark.plist" file and the conclusion is that Youtube doesnt work. :(
I have used John DVD activation method.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi guys

i was also having loads of problems but i copyed the Device Certificate from data_ark.plist ( opened in notepad )

and pasted it into activation_record.plist

and then copyed it back across to the phone and it worked fine after a reboot.

08-15-2007, 10:23 PM
you need to take the DeviceCertificate from data_ark.plist which is one of the files that is given in the previuos links then open the activation_record.plist which is in

/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown

and put the the DeviceCertificate below were it starts

<key>DeviceCertificate</key>
<data>
( HEAR )

then save the activation_record.plist and put it back into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown

should work did for me!

hererxnl
08-15-2007, 10:36 PM
badappleuk, thanks for the response. Apparently activation_record.plist doesn't exist on my phone. I have a folder called activation_records with a plist file named after my device ID. It does have a blank key value for the Certificate but inserting it didn't make it work. Also my data_ark.plist is over written each time the phone is rebooted but the YouTube.app doesn't work before its rebooted.

Frustrating

Well, it worked. I originally followed the tutorial via OSK and iPhuc. After transferring the 3 files didn't work.

Next I did what you suggested and it works now. It has been reported elsewhere though that sometimes after a jailbreak it stops working. I will know shortly, now that i am in hack mode...

Using 1.0 and my directory didn't have the "activation_record" folder.

do you not have a activation file at

var/root/Library/Lockdown

h4xxr
08-16-2007, 01:10 AM
Ok SOLVED!!

Basically, there is a different process depending on your Firmware version!

Ok, so if you have firmware 1.0:

- Copy the files kindly donated by deleonju
- Get them onto your phone thru SCP or similar, into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
- Copy the certificate key from data_ark.plist into your activation_record.plist file
- Reboot!

However, if you have firmware 1.1:

- Copy the files kindly donated by deleonju
- Get them onto your phone thru SCP or similar, into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
- Copy the key out of data_ark.plist to the clipboard
- Open up the original .plist file you used to activate the iPhone, if you used iASign and Tool. If you did it a different way, you will need to find the .plist file that your method used. Check out http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_using_cingular_for_intel_mac.html. Even if you activated your iPhone in an easier way, I recommend using this method to unlock YouTube.
- Insert the key from the clipboard into this .plist file. The location it needs to go in is obvious. There won't be a key there already
- Save the .plist file
- using Tool (see hacktheiphone link) firstly deactivate the iPhone.
- then, using syntax provided in the tutorial (link...), activate the iPhone again, using the modified .plist file
- reboot iPhone
- it works!!

Phew. Gee, thanks Apple for changing the file structure of activation_record from 1.0 to 1.1! Led to all sorts of confusion!...

/Applications/iFuntastic.app/Contents/PhoneTools/iphuc

Use iFuntastic to jailbrake first, then follow the instructions at:

If you have the 1.0 Firmware, you can probably use iPhoneInterface. IPHUC replaced iPhoneInterface.

There is a Windows version at:

You'll still need to jailbrake the phone.

Thanks to all who have participated in this effort. YouTube is finally working on my 1.0.1 device! Seems enabling is different for firmware versions and activtion methods.

Worse yet, none of the previously mentioned methods worked on my phone. I have a folder in Lockdown called pair_records with two plist files (something like: 88B87B60-F2AC-4D42-B143-BF6D08E1A362.plist). Both of these files have a DeviceCertificate key. Once I replaced the existing keys with the DeviceCertificate key from the data_ark.plist supplied on the first page of this thread and rebooted everything is working!

Thanks again to the diligent users of this site.

Phew. Gee, thanks Apple for changing the file structure of activation_record from 1.0 to 1.1! Led to all sorts of confusion!...

I had simply replaced the files ... which didnt work. Found this advice and voila.
This worked perfectly for me. Thanks

I have FW 1.00000 :)

I renamed the old 3-files ( .old) and added simply the new files.

After that everything worked perfekt, but now youtube says "cannot conncet to youtube" ??

Does someone now why ?

Can still watch Videos out of "Bookmarks" but the search doesnt work any more.

Ok SOLVED!!

Hi All,

a simpler (no re-activation) method worked for me on 1.1:

1. copy the whole Lockdown directory from /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
onto your pc
2. Copy the deleonju files into the Lockdown folder on your pc
3. Open the new data_ark.plist file, and copy the entire <data> tag just after <key>-DeviceCertificate</key> onto the clipboard
4. Open EACH .plist file in the pair_records folder, and paste over the device certificate data tag
5. Open the .plist file in the activation_records folder, and paste the <data> tag over the (probably empty) <data> tag after <key>-DeviceCertificate</key> - note that this device certificate key is further down the file than in the pair_record .plist files
6. Copy the new Lockdown folder contents into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
7. Reboot the iPhone and enjoy!

I thought it hadn't worked at first, but my WiFi hadn't connected yet :D

Hope it helps someone, and many thanks to all who helped me get to this point.

Cheers,
Dave

Thank you so much for this FYI.
I couldn't get it to work without this step :)

cheers!

Thanks for the tip - tried all previously described methods, but this was the only way I was able to - finally - get Youtube working.

in addition to the three files i downloaded from **********, I had to paste the devicecertificate from the "data_ark.plist" file (********** downloaded version) into three .plist files on my iPhone, which are all in subdirectories of /Lockdown (had an error when i tried to download the entire Lockdown directory, so just copied the files one by one).

Again, thanks - happy to have an almost-fully-functional iphone now!

it worked like a charm, I installed the three files using iPHUC from the Dev team, using only getfile (to backup the original ones) and putfile (to replace the certs on the phone with the files provided), I did not think YouTube would add that much usability to my precious but indeed it does!!!

I just recently ran into this problem after getting a new AT&T sim card and reactivating my iphone with these instructions:http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_using_cingular_for_intel_mac_easy.html

My iphone was originally activated on a legit prepaid plan. So here's my question, should I use the script file to make YouTube work again, or would an iphone restore work?

Thanks, and I also wanted to compliment the dev team on all the effort they've been making to unshackle this device.

if you do restore it will restore the iphone to the original state as it was when brand new out of the box, so it is likely that the you tube will not work.

This method has worked for me for 6 iPhones now. However, phones activated using the OSX iActivator tool don't have a DeviceCertificate key in the activation_records .plist file, so the entire <key> and <data> pair for -DeviceCertificate needs to be placed in the file.

So the activation_records file needs to look like this in structure:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">

...other tags...
<key>-DeviceCertificate</key>

Hi Dave,

What are the prerequisites before I can backup and replace the necessary files?

Jailbreak for sure.
Do I need to install SSH or something similar?
And what's the best program to use to get those files on and off there?

Ok, I used this method ages ago to activate YouTube on my 1.0.0 phone and it still works fine but I have another phone that I setup yesterday with 1.0.2 and it doesn't work.

The file structure in 1.0.2 looks the same as 1.0.1

The strange thing I have found is when I edit the data_ark.plist file to add the DeviceCertificate, I can sftp it to the phone but when I reboot the phone, this entry has been deleted!

I have proved this several times by using this method:

I have copied the file from the phone to my Mac.
Editied the key.
Closed & Saved the file.
Re-opened the file.
Checked DeviceCertificate is still there.
Copied the file back to the phone.
Deleted the file from my Mac.
Copied the file from the phone back to my Mac.
Opened & checked the DeviceCertificate is still there.
Rebooted the phone.
Checked YouTube, NOT working.
Copied the file from the phone back to my Mac.
Opened the file.
DeviceCertificate BLANK

I've even tried two different sftp clients just to be sure something strange wasn't going on but that didn't make any difference which I should have realised anyway because it all worked fine on the 1.0.0 phone.

So it appears this hack doesn't work on 1.0.2 unless anyone has any suggestions!?

Actually it does work on 1.0.2 just fine. I'll post the steps you need to take to get it working.

1. This is very important. Restore your iphone. God knows what files you have changed and fiddled with already, and the youtube part of iphone seems very sensitive to this, and it's where i suspect a lot of you are going wrong.

2. Download and extract the files mentioned earlier in this thread. These include data_ark.plist device_private.pem and device_public.pem. Copy the data between the first two <data></data> tags under <key>DeviceCertificate</key> from the data_ark.plist file

3. Generate A NEW activation file using your favorite tool, but don't yet activate the iphone with it. Firstly replace whatever is between the <data> </data> keys (in the newly created activation file) with the private key from data_ark.plist (from step 2)

4. Save the modified activation file and activate your iphone with it using your favorite tool.

5. Jailbreak your iphone with any of the plethora of tools available, (i use iNdependence)

6. Download all the files from the Lockdown directory (/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown) on your iphone. **DOWNLOAD ALL FILES IN ALL SUBDIRECTORIES**

7. Open each of the files you have downloaded from your iphone, and replace whatever is between the data tags <data></data> (under <key>DeviceCertificate</key>) again with the copied private key from data_ark.plist in step 2. DO THIS WITH ALL FILES EVEN IF THERE IS STUFF ALREADY THERE.

8. Upload and replace all of these files in the lockdown directory of your iphone with the modified files using SSH, iphoneinterface, or whatever.

9. Put your phone back into jail again, let itunes do it's data backup restore thing, and resync.

There. you should now have working Youtube

No. Just follow the instructions. Our data_ark.plist device_public.pem and device_private.pem files all have information unique to our iphone and activation. Not to mention all the random files in the Lockdown subfolders.

the 3 files are there.... look at page 3 of this thread...

i used them to make my 1.0.2 work...

i simply copied the device id from data_ark.plist and pasted it over the device ID in the plist files in /Private/var/root/library/lockdown/pair_records/ and /Private/var/root/library/lockdown/Activation_records/ then I used the three files I mentioned earlier to overwrite the ones on /private/var/root/library/lockdown/

One thing though... I made sure that the <device ID> line had a - in it....

<-device ID>

reboot and enjoy

thx very much will try it but now last question where can i see the device id in the file?
is it in the head of the file or where ?

in the data_ark.plist you will find a line that says <-device id> then <data> a bunch of gibberish and then </data>

Copy the gibberish... and paste it between the <data> and </data> of the <-device id> part of the other aforementioned files... if it only says <device id> make sure to add the "-" so it says <-device id>

hope that helps

When I tried doing that, youtube did work, but then I lost the ability to sync with iTunes, as (I am guessing) the phone no longer had my device ID.

Are you still able to sync?

you have to click on youtube activation twice, you click it the first time, restart phone, do it again, restart, and it works,

you don't really need to restore the iPhone from iTunes before you do the jailbreak. I got the iBrick software and did jailbreak on my iPhone without restoring the iPhone software (and loosing my music and all other stuff). then went on with the steps of the point and click youtube fix tutorial on this forum.

I had no issues at all, I have a 1.02 phone, jailbroken, activated with the original ATT sim and currenlty running with a TurboSim'd TMobile SIM.

I overwrote the 3 files in lockdown and reboot, YouTube worked the first time.

AWESOME, Thanks everyone that made this possible.

Search is your friend...

There is a activation/youtube script for windows.

For osx on a 1.0.2 phone use the 1.0.1 instructions.

Ok, It is working now.
If you have firmware 1.0 and you dont have the activation_record.plist file:

- Copy the 3 files kindly donated by deleonju into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
- Copy the certificate key from data_ark.plist into /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown/Activation_records/XXX.plist
- Reboot!

Thanks,

Under DeviceCertificate, on take everything between the following <data> and </data> tags. And you paste this in the XXX.plist file, under DeviceCertificate, between the same tags.

I know where to copy the things and i also know whiche files!
Every step is clear like a blue sky!!!!

Situation:
I have a hardware unlock on firmware 1.0.2 and i have my contakts and other stuff in my phone so a restore is a bad idea!

I was so stupid and not safe the original youtube files!
just overwrite the original with the modded files (it was 2 in the morning after hardware unlock and we are all humans)

So now i have just the modded files and in the modded files is no certificate key
between the <data> and </data> its empty!!!!!!

Help:
can somebody send me this stupid certificate key or write it here down!
i will try to put it between the <data> and </data>

I have even tried it with all files having a <-devicecertificate> and <devicecertificate> (without the "-") and its still not connecting...

I do not even have an activation_records directory. I see it in the example shots but I dont have it.
So, what are the filenames of the .plist files in that dir?

Or better yet, where do I get these files from?

Hi there,

I would recomend for everyone to restore there phone and use there old ATT activation if they can and save that key just in case youtube starts to ban this widely spreaded key. I know its a pain, but i think saving your own key is a good idea.

does anyone know how to back up an entire iphone files system just in case i need a original file?

Thanks

There is not an activation_record.plist file.

activation_records is another folder under Lockdown. In the activation_records folder, there should be a plist file with the following format: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.plist where XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX should be numbers. Copy the content between <data> and </data> under <key>-DeviceCertificate</key> in data_ark.plist and paste into the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.plist file in the activation_records folder. Paste the content between <data> and </data> under <key>-DeviceCertificate</key>.

Hope this helps.

(1st phone) - copied three files from zip straight to phone, and it worked perfectly

(2nd phone) - did the same and got 'cannot connect to youtube'

so i replaced the certificate from the XXX.plist file in my activation_records folder with the certifiate from the data_ark.plist provided.

rebooted phone, and it told me i had to activate the phone.

I used the new independence v1.2.1 for mac, to re-activate. and now it works!

hope this helps some of you.

for those w/o the activation folder, you may want to copy the certificate into the files in the paired folders. my folder had three files, XXX.plist
both phones were activated/jailbreaked by independence, unlock.app, , tmobile, FW 1.0.2

Hi
I used iNdependence to activate and everything works but youtube.
I downloaded the three files and copied them according to the description.
But youtube still gives me the same error message.
What did I do wrong?
I don't know anything about the device ids or plist files. I just copied the three files
without the desired success.
Can someone post a kind of cookbook how to get youtube live?
Something for the real non-technie?
Thanks

Hi
I checked my iPhone for the files mentioned earlier.
data_ark.plist in private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
and
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.plist in activation_records

It was said that I shall copy the contents between
<key>DeviceCertificate</key>
<data>
</data>

from the data_ark.plist to the XXXXXXXXXXXXXp.list
I have checked them and they are bot empty in this area.
No keys or certificates.
Only the accounttoken and AccountTokenSignature contain stuff.

Hi All,

a simpler (no re-activation) method worked for me on 1.1:

1. copy the whole Lockdown directory from /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
onto your pc

Cheers,
Dave

noob here... how do I open the .plist files in my iPhone? I have the terminal app but can open an editor.
