this is a known problem at apple because there is also a thread at the official apple support forum.
i go to my local apple dealer today and ask if there is a possiblity to repair it because i think that apple has a worldwide warrenty.
greets, dewey
Try to turn off SIM CODE / PIN in Settings... so the phone can reconnect when it disconneted on its own.

I have the same problem with my iphone 1.1.2 (OTB)
I jailbroken mine and my husband's iphone and placed a stealthsim in each.
My husband's iphone is working normally, but mine is facing the same problme you described.
Everything is working fine....but this problme is really anoying!!
Do you think our iphone has a problem (hardware)??
Did you try to jailbreak it again??

I am facing the same problem. I have even tried a software reinstall. The signal goes when i lock down the screen though not immediately. After i unlock it there is no signal and then the phone goes to no service and then to getting a signal. Even when i get no signal the name of the service provider can be seen.
i have unlocked my 1.1.2 otb with the software unlock.

I just started having the EXACT same problem. Phone is an OTB 1.1.2 with Stealthsim as well...was working awesome for a couple months before this. Tried reseating the sim, etc, but the fit still seems good. At a total loss as to what to do....
