Stumbled upon that earlier today. Hopefully it will be built and uploaded soon for installation. It only supports HTML/Text files (such as those from the Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ ) but its a start. I'm sure it won't be that hard to implement the pdf reader from the mail app into this program.

W00t! I'd actually started reading through source of other released apps thinking about starting something like this myself. Hopefully they'll get code and binaries uploaded soon so others can start helping out.

I would love .cbr support, read some comics on the phone.

The first binary release is available via the Google Code page. Check it out!

I just installed the first binary, and when I open books, nothing shows. I copied over two plain text files and neither works. Any ideas?

Where did you copy the books into? I copied a test HTML book over to the new "EBooks" folder under "Media" and it works fine.

I put the text files in /var/root/Media/EBooks. They show up on the menu, but I just get a blank viewer screen when I try to view them. Maybe plain text isn't working properly yet?

That could be it. Have you tried some HTML to see if that works better for you? With my HTML book it did take quite a bit of time to initially open a book but it opened in the end just fine.

Ok, I copied over two more, and one of those worked. I think this thing might be picky on the encoding that it can use...
On another note, it'd be great if this app were available through Installer.app so that it'd be easier to get updates...

Pakkman,
the author of the program has said he is trying to get it listed in installer.app
Also, anyone know if there is a way to easily convert pdf's easily to the gutenburg format ,to then convert to html?

For now, the best you may be able to do is use the Apache hack for local PDF browsing until they figure out how to get cocoa's pdf viewer working for the iphone.
