Which reader/writer to get?

Hi Guys,

This is really ineresting. Thanks for all of the info-- it's great.

I just have a quick question; will I need a specific specialist smartcard writer like the 'infinity usb' or will a cheap sim card reader/writer be compatible with the software (worscan, etc) and do the same job in making a super sim? The cheap ones are like these off ebay:

woron scan is only serial compatable anyway!

i have one of these on it's way from hong kong at the moment. i got bored of waiting and went and borrowed a friend's phoenix compatible card writer which he used to use for writing pirate pay tv cards :)

anyway, this thing is serial, works awesome (as long as you remember to select the 16khz - 6mhz setting instead of the 9.6k - 3.5mhz setting. the 9600 baud just doesn't work with woronscan with it.

just remember to select your currency, as that will have an AUD default.

what we need is someone to post what writer/readers are able to be used that we can buy in your local staples stores in canada or future shops or best buys. I would rather just drive to the store and purchase it rather then wait 2 weeks for shipping. If someone could post that it would be greatly appreciated and I'm sure it would end a lot of questions from the newer guys!

I have an infinity USB programmer. As it doesn't have the serial post does that mean it will not do the job?

If you are talking about the Infinity USB unlimited, it has an option called virtual COM port, which allows it to be use by other software that only uses the com port (for example Woron Scan). It is easy to enable using the software that comes with the Infinity USB Unlimited. You enable it from the file menu, select the com port that you would like to emulate. Once you have done that the software runs in the background while you use a program like Woron Scan. While you are waiting for you programmer to arrive you can download and play with the software from their site and see for yourself

infinity usb unlimited works fine with woron scan in virtual mode.:)

This may sound rude ;)

But to all getting links up here and asking, will this work.... =>
Buy only those that work for sure (those that are mentioned in the guides) and support virtual com port (serial) and phoenix mode.
The USB infinity will not work, the USB infinity unlimited WILL work!
The dynamite will work... so why ask if some cheap 7 dollar reader/writer will work? Nobody knows, buy and try. Or get the good stuff from the first time, even if it costs more.

ok.. i got the dynamite... it i cant get it to work... downloaded the latest software... activated pheonix... run woroscan and it doesn't connect to it... what can i do? I have both the USB and Serial cable plugged in...

I just ordered the Infinity USB Unlimited programmer from ucables but I cannot find the software you mentioned. Like you said, I am eagerly waiting for the programmer/silver cards and would like to get jumpstarted on the process...know where I can find it?
