Hi all,
With MUCH help from the forums and all the crazy intelligence on this site I've been able to h/w downgrade my otb 1.1.2 phone and get anySIM working.
The phone now recognizes my Rogers (Canada) SIM card's phone number and lets me press the phone button for the first time.
HOWEVER....
Where I hoped to see my carriers name in the upper left of my screen I just see the first 'bar' and then for dashes... but no carrier name and certainly no bars like I see on my old cell phone.
Has anyone else unlocked for Rogers Canada that (ages ago or recently) that might shed some light on this? I feel like I'm so close!
FYI if I make a call it fails right away, and incoming calls go straight to voicemail.
I've seen comments about the 'age' of a SIM card - how do I know if mine is too old? could that be it? Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers all,

Oh, FYI, now I'm seeing 'No Service' in the upper left. confusing as it DOES recognise and accept my SIM card.
Thoughts?

Thanks Lighter. I'm not sure - how can I tell? Something about the numbers on the back but not sure what.
Should i stay on 1.1.1?
Still stuck if anyone else has any ideas....

I went ahead with the hardware unlock (details/steps all over this site) Not sure I'd do it again after 'wasting' 3 days on it now - I'd wait another week or two for a software unlock.

How in the heck did you get a modem firmware of this? Cause the number u stated is the modem firmware that usually comes with 1.1.3....
Did you touch anything? Or did it come like that OOTB?
do u need iworld for canada? that may be it?
iWorld is not required for Canada.

hey rsoul.. yes the #'s on the back of your simcard.. its like 8920 3040 .... or is 8920 4000 which one is it? if is 3040 it might be the reason i know the 3040 didn't work with the turbosim and it might actually be the phone if not ...
you can get anysim from
i.unlocker.no
cheers...

ps.. i would stay with 1.1.1 it think its the best between 1.1.2

Silly but your Airplane mode is off right?
You just don't have enough signals...I first unlocked my phone in my room and thought I did something wrong....i saw 4 little bars and no T-Mobile.. and 3 minutes later No Service, I went outside and Bang Full Bars...So yes Maybe that was my problem but it might have been your as too...move around first before you do anymore mods on the phone and also iWorld is def needed in your case...I live in NYC no need for that.

Oops, no I forgot to turn it off....
When I got as far as running anySIM (from hackthatphone.com) with MY SIM in there it got 25% through reading the firmware and locked up with a bold white apple spiral thing in the middle of the page - and all I could do was start back at 1.1.1! ....
... does that sound like it was caused by not enabling airplane mode??
Trying again... !

I have a 3040 series Rogers SIM card, and it works fine. I did the h/w unlock via arian_ma tutorial, then unlocked using anySIM 1.2.1u on 1.1.1 firmware without airplane mode and it worked :S.
I removed the sim card various times to check that I wasn't going crazy and yeah I remove, pop it back in it works. I made phone calls to people, called voicemail, text messaged, it works fine.
(don't follow my instructions though lol, I guess I got lucky)

Hey all,
Well, I've tried a few different methods but still anySIM1.2.1u says it can't unlock my phone.
Looking at the sim card I see the following (first 3 sets of numbers only):
8930
2720
3040
XXXX
XXXX
So does that mean it's a '3040' card? What about the 89_30_ part??
Any advise would be great. In the mean time i'm calling Rogers Mobility to try and scam a replacement card....
Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
Well, anySIM continued to fail and yet I just received a phone call!? And can make calls so not sure why/how but the phone seems to be working - I called my voice mail to be sure.
Strange though - on the phone icon on the dock there is a red circle over laid on the top right corner - is this normal? Red would indicate to me that the phone doesn't think it can make calls.
When I click the phone icon there is also a red circle over the voice mail icon.... ?
Thoughts?

i guess you dont know how the phone works... the little red dot means new voicemail, and on the phone icon it means missed calls. if you have recieved a phonecall your phone is unlocked now. if you have more issues, i suggest running the virginiser and restore to 1.1.1 and unlock again, or, if you restore to 1.1.1 the baseband should already be unlocked.

i guess you dont know how the phone works...
LOL, up until a few minute ago it worked like this..... an iPod! Now the phone part IS working I'm finding all sorts of new indicators - who knew I breezed over that part of the manual two months ago!
Anyway, thanks again everyone for the help! all seems to be good now.
FYI for other Canadians - the anySIM STILL fails saying it can't unlock my phone and yet the phone is unlocked (i did the whole h/w unlock thing). This means 1 of 2 things:
1) The unlock DID work, despite the anySIM error message
or
2) Perhaps Rogers has quietly enabled their network to work with the iPhone - though they still deny knowledge of when we'll be able to buy them here.
Oh well, who cares, it's working!
Also, I'm still on my very old SIM (3 years old) but I talked Rogers Support into sending me a new one anyway... I'll post if I find any differences.
Cheers all, thanks again.
