okay so i finally cracked open my iphone after 6.5 days (started sunday afternoon) and boy what a FUCKING RELIEF! i almost destroyed my hands several times but got lucky and only suffered very small scrapes here and there (no blood though). i'm so glad that i ordered a replacement cover early because i have totally destroyed my case. there was just no way in a million years that i could've opened it up without scratching or bending it. i went with the last resort and pried the metal casing with a screwdriver (on top of a duane reade card to prevent scratching on the bezel) like there was no tomorrow. i did that for 3 days and some way, some how i popped open the side with buttons without any effort, but ironically i had done more damage to the side without buttons.
popped open the comm board cover easily (thank god), but i find out that the trace is so fucking small. i have a magnifying glass but even with that it's still small. oh well going to attempt the short tomorrow when my roommate wakes up to help me hold it.
will post results tomorrow. time to hit the bed! :D
peace.

@Kedar that I.unlock.no tutorial is extremely easy. I've done about 8 phones now, got it down to about 40 minutes per phone. That new update in the tutorial at the end is very useful, cuts down alot of time. Although I had to restore 1.1.1 after that step becaues I wasn't getting any signal after unlocking with Anysim, but once restored it works! :) I will talk to my boss to see if they donate some money towards this effort, these original unlockers and tutorial writers really make things EASY :D
Here's a couple pics, so you can see the simple tools I use, nothing special. Phones look flawless in the end.

I don't want to create another useless topic, so i'm asking here: after the HW unlock, mine iphone tends loose or have weaker signal ( o2 UK) than other phones, did or does any of you have same problem

anarchy: without opening tool I'd say it's fairly immpossible to open it without minor demage, and it takes a loads of time... so either invest a little bit or prepare yourself to have scratched iphone ( I went for the 2nd one :))

sansamo:had same problem, now you need to force the giutar pick upwards(guessing that that's what you use ) under the rear panel on the side, it's hard to describe, basically you need to get the pick higher than you slide in order to release the clips, tomorrow maybe i will post a photo, to make it understanable...

1 more thing, it requires lot of force ( but conversely don't overload that ) and definetely you will bend your case a little bit on the sides, mine is about half a mm off...

nice job! it took me a while and many small cuts on my hand to open it too so you're not alone! i just don't see how you can open the phone up with those ipod opener tools.. they just break on contact (cheap $3 tools). i had to pry it open with a small flathead screwdriver on top of a card to prevent scratches and used ALOT of upward force.

hey!!! thanks..... i was not using the ipod opener tools,, i was using Dentist tools hahaha!!! theyre great. im very happy,,, hurt but happy!! although now im stucked in the metal shield cover, over the baseband!!!! i dont understand,, i have to turn it? or to lift it or what!!! you know something?
thanks
Anarchy

@sansamo: You just have to open it, you can see some small openings around it, just lift it up (dont worry you can use force to lift it up because its not connected to anything).

Just lift it slowly, apply force to each side at a time until it detaches. There is glue only on the conectors so I used a scrwedriver to cut it without exposing the contacts.

@sansamo:
I would strongly suggest that you do not use metal to rid off the glue on the commboardshield. You may shortcircuit your battery which may result in a explosion, fire or sparks flying everywhere. Thats the kind of action you dont want :)
The soldering of these points isnt alike on every phone. I´ve seen variatons in how far they are away from the shield mentioned above.

congrats to you all...
dunno who asked about the UK HW unlock, but it works just fine with mine O2 card
Also I'd like to ask, in several days maybe I will have 'fresh' iphone to unlock, so do you want me to record whole process and throw it on youtube, or just upload it somewhere? only asking because I dont know if there is any same tutorial & dont want to waste my time ....

While doing HW unlock I was scraping quite hard on my A17 testpoint and suppose it's damaged. Is there a way to verify it? What behaviour would you expect? I see nothing strange now since my baseband is anyway deleted by iEraser... The only thing is that I can not connect the testpoint successfully even after approx.100 tries.
Many thanks in advance!
Cheers,

my iphone some how reboot after i did the ienew,
What steps do i need to do now to start running iunew?
When i run iunew now it gets stuck at "attempting to read [1]:

Hi again,
I've managed to successfully unlock an 1.1.2 OTB iPhone (not the one i recently bricked), almost. After connecting the testpoint and running 'iunew' successfully I have been unable to write any firmware version successfully so again I have a 'repair needed' phone. However I was now able to downgrade to 1.0.2, manually jailbreak and activate it and have copied all the tools needed to repeat the operation.
This time 'ienew' fails with 'Can't write', and 'iunew' sometimes stays at 'Spamming AT, waiting for response' and sometimes it spits 'Did you erase the flash first?'.
Whenever I try to run bbupdater (be it with -v or specifying a .fls and .eep file with -f and -e) it says 'Error: Failed to initialize comm layer: (is it open by another app?)'.
Just to note: I have indeed stopped the CommCenter, and all the related files needed to do the unlock have the correct permissions on them.
Regards and thanks for your time.

@Boliva
I have the same "can't write" problem and i think this could be a solution:
Once these files have been uploaded use your iPhone’s terminal. We need to stop the process which is trying to use your baseband. This file is called “com.apple.CommCenter.pist” and is location at /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter. It’s usually quite simple to stop the process but a lot of people have trouble doing it. I will go over the normal way to do it and if you can’t get it using that method try one of my alternatives. Using terminal type these commands verbatum:
cd /
cd System
cd Library
cd LaunchDaemons
now that you are in the correct directory type this:launchctl unload com.apple.CommCenter.plist
If all goes well it will think for a split second and then you will get no errors (and no confirmation!). Terminal just gives you a command prompt like normal again. Lots of people get the error “No Such Process.” if this happens type:
rm com.apple.CommCenter.plist to delete it. Don’t worry that you are deleting it because you can download it here so once this is all done you can reupload it using iBrickr. Also if you deleted com.apple.CommCenter.plist REBOOT YOUR PHONE NOW. Sometimes it takes quite a while to reboot. It’s my guess that the iPhone OS is looking around for the file. Just sit tight and it will return to it’s normal screen eventually.
Once you are done sorting out how to kill the com.apple.CommCenter.plist problem navigate to your /usr/bin directory. You can type this into your terminal: cd /usr/bin
Type chmod 0755 * (this will set up the correct permissions for the files you are about to access).
Also, type this: chmod +x ieraser & : chmod +x bbupdater
Now type this: ./bbupdater -v to find out what firmware you are running. If your iPhone was messed up in the same way mine was it will ping the baseband for a while and either return nothing or end on “issuing +xgendata.” This is fine. Also if you receive the error telling you comm center is in use this is because you didn’t correctly kill the plist mentioned above so keep trying it until it works!
Execute the following to erase your baseband: ./ieraser. This will completely erase what is left on your baseband. We’re almost done.
Execute the following to reflash your baseband: ./bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls. A lot of people on the IRC Channels claim that this won’t work for a stock 1.1.1 iPhone. It will. Let the process run all the way through. If you get an error check that the secpack doesn’t have a hidden extension of ‘.bin’ at the end. This will cause it to fail.
Type: ./bbupdater -v and if everything is right it will ping your firmware and return your version as 3.14.08. You did it!
Finally - let’s not forget about our friend com.apple.CommCenter.plist. Copy the file back to the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ using iBrickr.
Reboot. Your wifi works… Your sound now works… Your vibration now works… Nice Going.
Final Step: You now have a factory fresh 1.0.2 iPhone. To make your iPhone completely factory fresh you should probably update it to 1.1.1. From there you can follow one of the many simple tutorials online to try to unlock it again.
I copied it from modmyifone, it is an old repair tutorial for bricked 1.0.2, but i think we can use it to.
i think the best way is to erase com.apple.CommCenter.plist completely, but as i get no connection to ibrickr and have not installed ssh, i could get a problem.
so i think the best way would be to move the file to a different folder or rename it...

When running ieraser or ienew it just stays on 'Waiting for data...'. If I try to run iunew it then exits with 'Did you erase the flash first?'
I've tried to restore to 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 with no avail.

Hi,
I was wondering if someone here can help me with my problem.
After i did the ienew step, and someone how my iphone rebooted when i was doing the iunew.
I don't think the downgrade was successful. So i kept attempting to do the downgrade, but i was unable to get the test point connect. I have done 2 hw downgrade already, and never had a problem doing the testpoint part.
So now i'm trying to restore. But there is no way i can restore to any firmware.
When i'm in DFU mode and restore, the phone will not bootup to finish the completion, on itunes it keeps saying waiting for phone.
When i restore in recovery mode, i get error 1 right away.
Is my phone repair able? what can i do? i'm at 1.1.1 now and it's jailbroken.
i can use terminal but no wifi or anything.
If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Or if you thing i have did something to my test point b durning the downgrade, please let me know what are the sysmptom of this problem if you have ever experience it before.
Thanks
Kablam
