any chance this will ever get ported to the iphone? I know we really don't need it but would kinda be cool.

mplayer for iphone is something I have also been thinking about. I encode a live stream of video from a tv source, so that I can watch the video live when I am at work. If I could stream this video to my iphone... that would be so amazing.. esp over the edge network, that would be even cooler, but also harder to do at a decent bit rate. over wifi would not be an issue.

Also, think of the security possibilities. you could watch video of your house... or even have a txt msg or email sent when a motion trigger was set off... then you log into your video stream and can see what is happening live.

VLC and mplayer use the same codec (libavcodec)... sooooo not that much of a difference :)
