So I have been messing with DropCopy on my girlfriends iphone and my iphone. I am DropCopying a mp3 from the itunes folder to the other iphone which ends up in the ~/Media/DropCopy.

Now heres the problem. When I access the file through Mobile Finder (in the DropCopy folder) the file does not play when you go to OPEN WITH>MobileMediaPlayer.app.

So my first solution was to drag it over to the ~Media/iTunes_Control/Music but that doesnt work either...and neither does putting it in the ~Media/iTunes_Control/Music/Fxx folders.

Has anyone successfully transfered a MP3 to another iphone and successfully executed the file to play?

You can use MNPLight ( http://movenplay.gforge.inria.fr/iphone on installer ), to make a song join your current playlist, so it would appear in MobileMediaPlay like you had sync it from itunes.
