/* ADMIN EDIT: I closed this thread because this kind of stuff is subjected to serious criminal charges in germany, and will be noticed by your provider instantly and raise a fraud alert. I won't let you run in a open knife and get sued or fined for tampering with telecommunication networks. Hey guys,

I am currently in the US and purchased and activated my iPhone with AT&T (since I live out here) However, I'll be going to German next week for a month and would like to use my O2 (Former Viag Interkom) prepaid Sim-Card there.

Since this Sim card is pretty old (it's still from Viag Interkom) it should be a V1 correct?

I'm planning to purchase one of the following Sim Card Editor from Conrad Online:

Chipdrive Simcard Stick - Euro 17.95 (http://www1.conrad.de/scripts/wgate/zcop_b2c/~flNlc3Npb249UDkwV0dBVEU6Q19BR0FURTAzOjAwMDIuMDE4O C5iYTEyODcwYyZ+aHR0cF9jb250ZW50X2NoYXJzZXQ9aXNvLTg 4NTktMSZ+U3RhdGU9MTI2Mjg2NzM1OA==?~template=PCAT_A REA_S_BROWSE&mfhelp=&p_selected_area=%24ROOT&p_selected_area_fh=&perform_special_action=&glb_user_js=Y&shop=B2C&vgl_artikel_in_index=&product_show_id=&p_page_to_display=DirektSearch&~cookies=1&zhmmh_lfo=&zhmmh_area_kz=&s_haupt_kategorie=&p_searchstring=sim+card&p_searchstring_artnr=&p_search_category=alle&r3_matn=&insert_kz=&area_s_url=&brand=&amount=&new_item_quantity=&area_url=&direkt_aufriss_area=&p_countdown=&p_80=&p_80_category=&p_80_article=&p_next_template_after_login=&mindestbestellwert=&login=&password=&bpemail=&bpid=&url=&show_wk=&use_search=3&p_back_template=&template=&kat_save=&updatestr=&vgl_artikel_in_vgl=&titel=&darsteller=&regisseur=&anbieter=&genre=&fsk=&jahr=&jahr2=&dvd_error=X&dvd_empty_error=X&dvd_year_error=&call_dvd=&kna_news=&p_status_scenario=&documentselector=&aktiv=&p_load_area=$ROOT&p_artikelbilder_mode=&p_sortopt=&page=&p_catalog_max_results=20)

or

Hama Simcard Editor - Euro 14.95 (http://www1.conrad.de/scripts/wgate/zcop_b2c/~flNlc3Npb249UDkwV0dBVEU6Q19BR0FURTAzOjAwMDIuMDE4O C5iYTEyODcwYyZ+aHR0cF9jb250ZW50X2NoYXJzZXQ9aXNvLTg 4NTktMSZ+U3RhdGU9MTI2Mjg2NzM1OA==?~template=PCAT_A REA_S_BROWSE&mfhelp=&p_selected_area=%24ROOT&p_selected_area_fh=&perform_special_action=&glb_user_js=Y&shop=B2C&vgl_artikel_in_index=&product_show_id=&p_page_to_display=DirektSearch&~cookies=1&zhmmh_lfo=&zhmmh_area_kz=&s_haupt_kategorie=&p_searchstring=sim+card&p_searchstring_artnr=&p_search_category=alle&r3_matn=&insert_kz=&area_s_url=&brand=&amount=&new_item_quantity=&area_url=&direkt_aufriss_area=&p_countdown=&p_80=&p_80_category=&p_80_article=&p_next_template_after_login=&mindestbestellwert=&login=&password=&bpemail=&bpid=&url=&show_wk=&use_search=3&p_back_template=&template=&kat_save=&updatestr=&vgl_artikel_in_vgl=&titel=&darsteller=&regisseur=&anbieter=&genre=&fsk=&jahr=&jahr2=&dvd_error=X&dvd_empty_error=X&dvd_year_error=&call_dvd=&kna_news=&p_status_scenario=&documentselector=&aktiv=&p_load_area=$ROOT&p_artikelbilder_mode=&p_sortopt=&page=&p_catalog_max_results=20)

Will either one of them work? Or does it have to be the expansive Infinity USB Unlimited (http://www.infinityusb.com/default.asp?show=store&ProductGrp=1) for Euro 69?

As far as the Silvercard goes, where can you purchase that online either in Germany or the US? And is it hard to cut it to the right size? (You have to cut it to fit correct?)

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Do you still need to make your iPhone SuperSim compatible, even though, it has been legitimately activated with AT&T?

I know this sounds stupid but: why don't you just use international roaming? It may not be cheap but I'd prefer it compared to the hassle of a Super SIM.

I also don't know how "charging" the Super SIM pre-paid card would work and I don't have to mention that cloning SIM cards is illegal in Germany as far as I know.

Other possible issues: with a Super SIM and O2 you're not able to use EDGE.
I also don't know if you could mod the provider settings without messing up with your AT&T settings (which of course you could reverse later on by doing a complete recovery when you're back to the US).

Not worth it, I guess. Many of us would be happy to be in your situation. ;)

Haha well, first of all: Since I am a new AT&T customer they will not enable international roaming for me. You have to be with AT&T for at least 6 months to get that "privilege."

Second of all, I already got a prepaid phone card set up in Germany, and I have been using it over the last years with my old phones whenever I visited Germany. I don't care if I don't have EDGE or Visual Voicemail. Just SMS and Phone (In/Out) will do the trick.

Thirdly: No one in Germany will call me if I got my American Cell phone number. I need my German contacts to be able to reach me with a German number while I am there.

So, that's why I need to have my phone unlocked by the time I get to Germany or buy a second (unlocked) phone. :-/

Olek,

thank you very much! The first link didn't work though. Do you mean the "Silverwafer Karte (PIC2)" card?

In regards the to the cardreader: Does it have to be the expansive one you linked to, or could it be either one of those that I linked to above?

Finally: Will this work with a legitimately activated iPhone? How does it differ in the process?

"Silverwafer Karte (PIC2)" card yup

any cardreader that can read/write silvercards should be ok look in the details.

"sashha you are totaly right i made this test i powered off and on maybe 10 times removed the sim card (clone) inserted At&T (original ) one and back again clone all is working very well..."

hey olek, you're great. So do I understand correctly, that you also activated your iPhone via AT&T? Did you still have to follow step 2 of the instructions to "prepare " the iPhone or did you simply have to create the supersim and insert it in your activated phone?

Apparently only very old SIM cards work with the Super SIM method.
Since the providers you named are pretty new, I'd say: forget about it. :(

I have a very very old T-Mobile SIM card (15 years or so) which I'll try this weekend but otherwise, I think chances are pretty slim to find a (newer) SIM card in Germany which works with the Super SIM method.

Regarding international roaming with an AT&T card: you need to wait 90 days as far as I remember, not 6 months until international roaming is activated.
You can speed up this process by leaving a "virtual deposit" of up to 1000 USD on your credit card. Meaning: AT&T "blocks" 1000 USD on your credit card, being able to cash it in when they want but they don't really take the money, it works the same way car rentals and/or better hotels operate. You just need to go to a local AT&T corporate shop and talk to these guys and of course you need a valid credit card with a larger "limit".
