So I think I am going to go to the apple store and see if I can exchange my iphone for a new one. I have the No Service problem and before i take the phone apart, i would like to see if i can get a new one from apple. I connected my phone to my computer and restored it using itunes. I have the sim that came with it in my phone and all i have to do now is go plead my case with apple. I guess i would like to know if I am going to run into any problems because I do not have a registered iphone account with AT&t or if there is some loophole that i can get through to get this thing serviced. thanks in advance!

BTW it is a 1.1.2 otb iphone that i had previously jailbreaked and activated using ibrickr.

how would u get a no service problem if the phone isn't unlockable?

You can try but all i can say is don't get your hopes up.

Without AT&T contract pretty much is a NO, unless you bought the iphone less then 14 days old.

You dont need to unlock the phone if it is being used with a cingular sim. I restored it and still get the no service signal. Would it be safe to give them my cingular cell phone number, or do you think the phone company would get word of it and make me switch to an iphone plan?

but there going to ask you how you activated the iphone without creating a new contract i assume. what will be your answer then?

I could say i had a pay as you go contract that i cancelled once i began getting the problem.

i think you don't need to add the data plan anymore, so you can theoretically switch to an iphone plan, it would be the same thing

yes but then i would have to extend my contract and i dont want to do that. Ahhh its so frustrating lol thanks for your patience!

I've thought about this scenario before. Do you think you could just try to pull off the "it was a gift" excuse? Say it was from your mother or something who doesn't know much about electronics and did not know you needed an active contract to use the phone?

I don't know. Good luck.

good point. I am going to try one more thing. I noticed on my att acount homepage, that it recognized my iphone, but i didn't want cingular to know, so I changed the phone to a different model. I was doing some reading and I think this may have something to do it it, because your carrier matched the imei number with your device, but if mine was changed on cingular's end, they may be sending the wrong signal which may cause it. Ill let you know though

Well from watching that video that Apple rep is talking out of his arse. Apple's iPhone FAQ states:

[/URL]2. How can I tell if my iPhone is in-warranty?
Apple’s Limited Warranty (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/) for iPhone covers your iPhone for one year from the date of original purchase. Apple’s Limited Warranty begins on the date that the iPhone was originally purchased. To determine your warranty coverage, enter the serial number of your iPhone in the "About Your Support Coverage" section on the Apple Support site. Apple may need to examine your proof of purchase document to verify your iPhone’s warranty status. Note: Warranty starts on the date of purchase.

So as long as you have proof of purchase you are OK.

Is it legitimate to use an iphone with a pay as you go contract?

There is no law in existance that says you cannot use a PAYG account with iPhone. In terms of Apple iPhone service under the limited warranty, as long as you don't install third-party applications (or at least cover up any trace of such use!) or try to repair it yourself, then Apple will not refuse to service it. Well, in terms of the contract you both agreed to when you bought it, they can't refuse (you will have to provide proof of purchase though), but i'm not a lawyer so i can't say for sure.

Well after a long time spent at the apple store, I got a new phone. I was a standby at the "genius bar" and i will restrain myself from commenting on that subject, but the rep did tell me that using my old cingular sim and not the one they supplied could have something to do with the no service issue. Before, i repeat history with this phone does anybody know if this could have been the issue and if i should just activate the phone using itunes. Thanks!
