So i have a 1.1.2 otb iphone that i would like to return to apple because i have done alot of reading on the forums and it seems like nobody can cure this problem with a software fix, but a hardware glitch may cause the problem. So, i would like to exchange my iphone to apple for a nondefective one. I have a 1.1.2 otb that i have jailbreaked and activated using the tutorials (ibricker) and i would like to restore it to its original status and get a new one. I am currently using my cingular sim with the phone but i do not have an iphone plan. Please let me know how this is possible. Thanks.

Well if it is a genuine hardware fault then there's no reason why Apple should reject it. I know that the iPhone doesn't need to be activated to be repaired under warranty, but i'm not sure if you should need to be signed up to a tarrif. I shouldn't think so.
As long as you restore and virginise i think you should be OK. As long as you are still under warranty that is... ;)

How can i find out if i am still under warranty? Also, how do i explain the problem without letting them know that i didn't activate using itunes, so theoretically this problem doesn't exist because it has never been connected to service, in their eyes.

Have a look through this:

You may want to look at the site specific to your country. Sorry not sure where you are from...

Okay. So i spoke with apple on the phone and they told me to make an appointment and then bring the phone in, but I think i am just going to restore the phone and bring it to them and tell them that i was using it on a pay as you go account and that i noticed the no service problem. Will this work?

Yeah... I suppose that sounds OK. Interesting to see how you get on. Let us know.

Well after a long time spent at the apple store, I got a new phone. I was a standby at the "genius bar" and i will restrain myself from commenting on that subject, but the rep did tell me that using my old cingular sim and not the one they supplied could have something to do with the no service issue. Before, i repeat history with this phone does anybody know if this could have been the issue and if i should just activate the phone using itunes. Thanks!
