I tried the new update and it didn't take and the phone will not restore with itunes, I've tried many times now. Is it possible to restore the phone with iphoneinterface and the restore image? I can't find any documentation describing this.

Did you try this:

1) Hold menu+power until you get the yellow triangle with "connect to itunes" message
2) then plug in phone to computer
3) start itunes

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, 8 times now. It proceeds to update and gives me messages and then starts downloading but after downloading it give me an error.

I was wondering since the restore image is provided on this site and others, is there a way to use it to restore without Itunes or tell Itunes to use the file instead of downloading.

I assume that since you're using iPhoneInterface, you've broken jail. Now I don't know this for sure, but if you're not in jail, I don't think restore will work. Try to return to jail and then attempt a restore. I only say this because one time I could not get the phone into recovery mode (the yellow triangle), and I returned it to jail and then it worked.

Do I return to jail simply by running jail break again? If so, that doesn't work, jailbreak gives me errors?

I'm sure a lot of people would like to help but we need you to give details.
what are the error messages?
iTunes errors
iphoneimterface errors

This would be helpfull

There are also ways to return to jail by putting back the services.plist but I don't know if you want to do that yet. Lets get the error fist so we can better help you.
its not completly bricked yet if the phone still turns on.

try rebooting your PC, make sure that iTunes & ituneshelper are both running, otherwise you phone will not be able to be seen by iTunes. Additionally make sure there are no other users logged in while you are logged in.

Itunes should download the full image, and if the download of the image isn't complete then you have an ISP problem. or possibly a hardware problem on your computer

Ok, here is the complete error:

>>There was a problem downloading the iphone software for the iphone. An unknown error occurred (-48).

>>Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.

The problem is the progress bar shows that the full file has been downloaded.

I'm currently using a Verizon evdo connection but today I will try a different network and then a different computer and see what happens.

Uh, yeah, I would ditch the EVDO connection and use a real network when doing this kind of stuff. I hope that was the issue.
