So since this gui program, iactivator, uses the same files in iasign, does that mean that you can use old/prepaid cingular/att sim cards in the phone or does this program just bypass the activation of the phone? do you have still have to go through the long process with terminal commands, using iasign and the other tools to use the phone with other att sim cards? I was under the impression that this program does more than bypass att activation and allows you to use other att and cingular cards but I have read conflicting posts in the forum and wanted to get a straight answer.

Thanks

A step by step tutorial I found by accident...

That's great, PolishOX, and it's greatly appreciated. I'm still wondering if iActivator will allow you to use other att/cingular prepaid cards without having to do the long terminal hack.

A step by step tutorial I found by accident...Please note: that tutorial is missing a step... the actual activation step. Please use the README.txt file that comes with iActivator for up to date/correct instructions.

Once your phone is activated (what iActivator does), you should be able to pop in any AT&T SIM card and have it work.

However, please note that this program does not unlock the phone (allowing you to use a SIM from any service provider). There's nothing out there yet which allows for this AFAIK.

Very painfully. :)

I use Mac predominantly, and Parallels for Windows work. However, due to problems with using the iPhone with Parallels (need to restart services each time the phone is connected), I can't test jailbreak very easily.

I do have a PC, but it locks up every 5-10 minutes. My only other option is to use Bootcamp, but I don't have very much space left on my main Mac hard drive (and Bootcamp doesn't work with external drives).

On top of that, I'm really not all that good with assembly language and reverse engineering, and fixing jailbreak on Windows requires both of those skills.

So I'm hoping someone on IRC will be able help me out at some point. Otherwise it'll be a slow process...
