I was searching my phone for 5 minutes looking for 600 megs of missing storage.

I found 500 megs under /var/root/Library/MobileFinder/Trash

it appears to be all of the files I deleted from my Downloads folder that I downloaded using the file download plugin.

Then I found 100 megs under /var/root/Library/Caches

Just the cache files from all of the applications you use

Can someone manufacture an application that views the files in these folders using a GUI with the option for deleting or restoring.

You mean an AppleJack like for iPhone ?

Maybe just adding an .sh script in the startup process that will check/delete the content of folders you want.

This is a great idea if you can simply just delete these files at startup.

hmm.. I don't have a MobileFinder folder. Is that only needed/created by the download plugin?

And when cleaning cache, did you simple delete all the .sqlitedb files?

I also found a lot of directories in these two directory mentiones. How I can check how much space they have taken?

I think the best way is deleteing these directories manually using term Vt100 or similar softwares.

Well, i don't see myself typing redundant commands in the terminal everydays. :)

building an app that will calculate the space used by the cache and propose you to quit or empty it.

well just remember that when you delete file using mobile finder it simply moves the file in the trash folder, that is why it shows you the trash icon when you use it.

Well, I rather have it where it has a GUI, The main Menu would be the trash where you can either choose to empty the trash, delete a single file or restore the file. Also available in the main menu should be the cleanup section where it scans predefined folders for cache files, what application the cache pertains to (safari, ttr, installer app, etc.).

This would be a very useful little application. :)

I am now mid development on this project. I am hoping to have it out shortly. What kind of cleanups do you all want to see?

Will we be able to get this from an installer source, or just download and transfer to iphone?

thanks

Something like AppleJack would definitively be cool.

Do you use a specific installer source. I know there are many, just want to make sure I have yours setup on my phone.

Thanks again...

can't you just delete the trash folder?

doing so freed up memory on my phone, and as soon as i trashed something else in mobilefinder, the folder returned with only the new contents.

Thanks mate. I am sure soon everyone will need this app because they will fill up their phone with garbage and have to clean it up. Keep up the good work. :)

Um ... thats called MobileFinder lol. except for setting the entire filesystem but im pretty sure you can handle folders.

I rather have this similar to the recycling bin combined with disk cleanup on windows but with an apple iphone gui

Oh and thx for taking up this project

I have quite a bit done on this now. I am trying to finish tying everything togeather. I have contacted app.tapp about getting it added to the main installer source however I have not heard back from them.

What about iRadio playlists for people who randomly try different genres but never go back to them.

Can you tell me where these files live so I can add the option to have them deleted?

Just wanted to say thanks for taking this on. I don't get into the nitty-grits of my phone very often, and I know a lot of junk tends to get left behind by installed/removed programs. I'm not sure if this is anything that can be built in, but if there was a way to identify files/junk that were not associated with any active/installed programs and tag them for removal, that would be ideal.

On the other hand, if anyone knows another simple way to do this, please let me know!

Thanks again.

Just FYI, I accidentally deleted the entire Caches folder and nothing bad happened. I was panicked at first because I meant to run "ls -l Caches" and I ran "rm -rf Caches". I know that's a stupid mistake, I had just run "rm -rf Caches//Installer" and just used the up arrow to get the last command and removed the //Installer part.

Anyway, now I know, you can completely kill that folder and your iPhone won't care.

Plus I recovered at least 30MB of space.
