For a while now my ten year old brother has been pining for a Mac and I thought it might be a good idea to buy an iMac G3 for Christmas, upgrade the RAM and replace the crappy CRT with a nice LCD display that I already have lying around (en fact I am using it right now, it is connected to my ThinkPad T40 which is running 10.4.7). I want to be able to control what websites he can go on and who he can email because of his age and I also want him to be able to run Tiger, since he is already familiar with it.
I just wanted to ask everyone here what they thought of the idea and whether it is worth shedding a bit more money out and buying an eMac and doing an LCD conversion on that instead because it is slightly more powerful? He doesn't actually know he is going to get one, but I thought it would be a nice treat and it will be good for him as he enters high school the following September.
