[1.1.2][Solution] Downgrade to 1.1.1 using Windows

FOR EVERYONE TRYING TO DOWNGRADE TO 1.1.1 FROM 1.1.2 USING WINDOWS:

1. Put your iPhone into DFU mode (With iTunes still open and the iPhone still connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen turns black. Once it does, let go of the Sleep/Wake button. Continue to hold the Home button until iTunes displays a popup about the iPhone being in recovery mode. Click OK.)
2. In iTunes hold the shift key and click on ‘Restore’
3. Select the 1.1.1 firmware file and hit ‘OK’ (Download it here: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_firmware_update.html)
4. After about 4 minutes you will get an error (That’s OK)
5. Close iTunes
6. Download iPhuc (Download it here: http://www.webparinc.com/temp/files/iphuc_windows.zip)
7. Launch the iphuc.exe and type each of these commands on their own line and hit enter for each:

cmd setenv auto-boot true

cmd saveenv

cmd fsboot

exit

8. Wait a few seconds and your iPhone should be out of DFU mode and at the activation screen.

***If you have an AT&T activated sim card then goto to step 9a. If not then goto step 9b***

9a. Connect to iTunes and let your iPhone activate. If your AT&T service does not work that is ok
10a. Now add your WiFi network
11a. Launch Safari and type jailbreakme.com
12a. Now go straight to step 22

***Continue if you do not have an AT&T activated sim card***

9b. Slide to reach the emergency dial screen
10b. Enter *#307# and then press call
11b. Your phone will ring itself, press answer
12b. Press hold now and your phone will start ringing again
13b. Press Dismiss and your phone will go into the contacts/dial screen
14b. Press contacts from the bottom bar and add a contact
15b. Add a contact with a random name and homepage of: prefs://1f
16b. Save it and click on the link. This will take you straight into the settings menu of the iPhone
17b. Select 'General' and then select 'Auto-lock' and hit 'Never'
18b. Now go back and add your WiFi network
19b. Hit the home button and you will now be taken back to the emergency dial screen
20b. Hit 0 then call then press answer and then press hold and then press decline and hit contacts and add another contact with a random name and a homepage of: jailbreakme.com
21b. Save it and click on the link. This will launch safari and take you to the appsnapp install page. Continue to step 22

22. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on 'Install appsnapp'
23. After it installs you should have a jailbroken and activated phone with the installer.app
24. Launch installer and install 'BSD Subsystem' and then select the sources button at the bottom of the screen
25. Click on 'Edit' and then click on 'Add'
26. Type 'http://i.unlock.no' the sources will refresh
27. Select the install button at the bottom of the screen and scroll down where it says 'Unlocking Tools'
28. Now install 'Baseband Downgrader' to downgrade your 1.1.2 (04.02.13_G) to 1.0.2 (03.14.08_G) baseband
29. After it installs you have to re-flash the firmware for the changes to take affect. Repeat steps 1-5 above and then after that proceed to step 30

30. So now you should have an iPhone that you downgraded to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2 and then installed appsnapp, installer, BSD Subsystem, Baseband Downgrader and then re-flashed the firmware again to 1.1.1 and are now back to the activation screen

***If you have an AT&T activated sim card then goto to step 30a. If not then goto step 30b***

30a. iTunes should now activate your iPhone and your AT&T should now work
31a. Launch Safari and type jailbreakme.com and install appsnapp again. That's it!

***Continue if you do not have an AT&T activated sim card***

30b. Repeat steps 9b-27 and then proceed to 31b
31b. Select and install anySIM and follow the instructions
32b. Restart your iPhone and that's it!

NOTES:
-This is for those that want to downgrade there iPhone and baseband back to 1.1.1

-This will not work with brand new out of the box iPhones that already come with firmware version 1.1.2

-Sorry if the guide is a little confusing and jumps around a bit, just follow the steps!

-If you restart for iPhone with 1.1.1 and have not yet downgraded your baseband then you iPhone will restart back into DFU mode

Thanks heaps for this guide. It gives me high hopes of being able to save my phone from recovery mode. When I type the commands in iPhuc, I get the message:

Bus error
logout

[Process completed]

and then I can't type anything else. I read somewhere that this could mean I'm running the wrong baseband (04.01.) How can I fix this if I can't use itunes to restore the iphone?

i figured out where they are, vipin i think you have the same problem as i did. the first .dll file should be in program files/common files/apple/mobile device support/bin

and the readline5.dll file you have to download, google it and it should come up.

I have combined all the files that you need to that you don't get any errors. You're suppose to get the iTunesMobileDevice.dll and the readline5.dll from your computer's hard drive but everything you need is in this link:

You should be able to downgrade to 1.1.1 and then re-install iWorld. As you know, downgrading will erase the installed apps anyways

Do you mean appsnapp?

This is a common problem that the install crashes safari before the download can start. Read this thread, many have found success to get it to install:

Its not suppose to return any messages. If its not giving you any errors after hitting 'enter' than its working. After you type 'exit' wait about 10 seconds and your iphone should go to the activation screen

the iphuc is working now, but it doesnt seem like it's restoring/erasing the old firmware. all the files and the 1.1.2 firmware stay intact after the iphuc gets done with it

if thats the case then i don't think you are putting it into recovery mode (DFU) correctly. Just try again. If you did it correctly and downgraded to 1.1.1 then itunes will give you an error and then you should click ok and then close iTunes. Your iPhone should now show the logo that says to plug it into iTunes. Then use iphuc to get it out of DFU mode.

The reason your iTunes gives you an error and your iphone says to plug it into iTunes with the recovery logo screen is because your firmware is downgrade but your baseband has not been downgraded. So your iPhone thinks that something is wrong, but everything is still ok, just continue through the steps so that you can downgrade your baseband. Hope this clearifys some things :)

You can update to 1.1.2 so that you don't have to use iphuc every time your iphone restarts.

1. Install oktoprep
2. Update to 1.1.2 in iTunes
3. Download and install jailbreak 1.1.2 method

Nope, after I do the restore and get a 1604 error, I quit iTunes then quit iTunes helper. Then open iPhuc.

I think that 1.1.1 is more stable and all that 1.1.2 really gives you is international keyboards...

And yes, this guide will work for you if you want to keep it at 1.1.1

earlier i was using 1.0.2 then i updated to 1.1.1. or 1.1.2 i forget. and something messed up so i restored my phone and it basically bricked but i undid it and now im here.

If you have 1.1.1 you don't need iWorld. If you plan on updating to 1.1.2 then you have to use iWorld...with the latest update to 1.1.2 it was Apple's way of 'trying' to disable SMS when foreigners tried to use their unlocked phones outside of the US. Haha

No, meaning you actually are using an Activated AT&T sim card that is connected to a AT&T account. Step 9a is for those (like me) that just want to downgrade the phone but also use third party apps because I am using AT&T. Step 9b is for those using a different carrier.

Your DVD tray is opening on your computer??? uhhhh :confused:

Did you download all the necessary files for iPhuc?

There should be these files in a folder on you hard drive:

LICENSE.txt

unins000.dat
unins000.exe

Double click on the iphuc.exe file and it should open a command prompt screen that has a black background.

The reason it goes into recover mode every time is because your baseband is still 04.02.13_G. You have to downgrade it to 04.02.13_G using 'BB Downgrader (1.1.2)' and then you have to re-flash the firmware to 1.1.1 again for the changes to take affect. Try this and let me know

When you open Safari and type jailbreakme.com do you get that error? Casue if thats the case than you aren't connected to your wifi network.

ppl who are having problems with the website can actually connect to it and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on 'Install AppSnapp' and then Safari crashes and they can't get the program to install...that is what that thread is about, but in your case it sounds like you can't even get to the site. Have you tried loading a different website like yahoo.com?

thanks for this guide i found it very easy to follow as long as you read it throughly first.

that said, i cant get out of DFU mode after successfully completing step 28. any suggestions? i am looking at the itunes logo and can't proceed.

1) tried iphuc, and ibrickr to get it out of DFU and re-boot to 1.1.1, but just see the itunes logo with the plug.

2) tried to restore to 1.1.2 no luck, itunes error 2003
3) tried to roll back to 1.0.2 using ibrickr just for the hell of it. frozen/hung at "restoring iPhone software" or an error 1.

the common thing i notice is everything seems to fail when windows "refreshes" the USB port and it plays the familiar "device connect/device disconnect" sound and that is the end of my attempt.

picked up right at step 29 and finished the process easily.

all i know is i started at 1.1.2 - BB 4.2.13_G and and now am at 1.1.1, BB 4.1.13_G, activated and jailbreaked.

You are JAILBROKEN not UNLOCKED. Unlocked means that you installed an ran a program like anySIM that does a software unlock on your phone to allow the use of different carrier's SIM card you basically used the guide to install the program called Installer.app which is what I am running on my iphone right now.

Unzip all the files to a folder on your hard drive and try again. The iphuc.exe program is trying to find the readlin5.dll file before it runs. It has to be in the as folder as the exe file.

Basically yes but the purpose of you doing it the first time is to downgrade the baseband and then reloading the firmware. When you downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 it wipes everything except the baseband.

The baseband is only effected by the firmware when you update to a newer firmware but it is not effected when you downgrade, that is why you have to take the steps to force it to do so. It would be nice if Apple included that process in the downgrade process but their 'thinking' is 'why would anyone want to downgrade their firmware?' lol :D

I tried this with my NIB iPhone with 1.1.2 preinstalled (Apparently with bootloader 4.6).

Although I failed in step 28 a number of times (and eventually gave up), it is working .

The only drawback is that I need to perform step 7 at every restart. Otherwise working great. It is perfectly fine with me that I cannot use this as a phone at this moment.

I also failed on step 28 where you downgrade the baseband. Basically everything is working but phone. I have a working 1.02 iphone that i pulled the tmobile sim out of but the NIB 1.12 iphone that failed on step 28, says it's an invalid sim.

So basically, do we just need to wait for 1.1.3 firmware, or is there an additional step that I failed to complete, and will enable phone on tmobile?

I read through the tutorial and seems fairly simple. Will run through it a couple of times before I get started.

This is my first experience with the iPhone and its for a friend who brought it down with him from the USA.

Couple of things I want to know (I admit Im a little lazy, havent read this entire thread)... is there a specific version of iTunes I need? I think Iv got 7.1 or something.. and the latest is 7.5 I reckon?

Also we currently down have EDGE/WiFi down here. Im not sure if his service provider has activated GPRS on his mobile connection yet, but Iv asked him to sign up for GPRS.

Will post back if my efforts are rewarded or in vain. Meanwhile let me know any tips or tricks that will help.

I have not had issues with the downgrade process and getting the "Main script execution failed!"

I did a search on the forums and cannot find an answer to this solution. My suggestion would be to downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.0.2 and then do the Baseband Downgrade program and then update to 1.1.1

Does this solve the problem?

You can manually download the 1.1.2 ipsw and select it in iTunes with Shift key for Windows or Alt (option) key for Mac pressed when clicking on update, a file requester will appear and you just have to select the 1.1.2 ipsw file.

It means that the jailbreakme.com site is overloaded or your internet connection is slow or your wireless signal is low. You must assure that all of these are ok and then it will work.

I have followed the instruction provided and it has worked as described until I reach the Baseband Downgrade install.
When I attempt to install this it downloads the package etc but hangs during the baseband install.
I receive: "Error: Main script execution failed".
I have tried repeatedly to install without any success.

Any thoughts on why this is occurring?
Is there a workaround?

If I cannot downgrade the baseband what implications does this have?
- will my iPhone always go into DFU mode on power-up?
- will I be unable to use AnySim?

I have downgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 and received this error too when running baseband downgrade - See post #106. Now I downgraded to 1.0.2 and ran into the same issue. (WiFi disconnected and Edge Logo appeared again).
I restored to 1.1.1 but after step 22 "install appsnapp" it went back into DFU mode.
I used IPHUC to get out of recovery mode and installed BSD Subsystem & Baseband Downgrade again - the issue occurred again halfway thru Flashing Baseband. Help!

Hows it going guys i have 1.1.2 otb modem Firmware 04.02.13_G.Activated and inuse via AT&T service.I've tried this at least 50 times(downgrading,iphuck enter cmd prompts,prefs:all of it from the 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 newbies post), literally and can't get the phone to acess jailbreakme.com "server can't be found" wifi is activated i followed the steps 100% execpt for seeing that "this does not work with 1.1.2otb"at the bottom lol.

Search the forum for jailbreakme.com failures. Many ppl have the same issue. Can you at least pull up a different website? Maybe its your router/wifi???

I was going from 1.1.1 ---> oktoprep ---> 1.1.2 --> 1.1.3
but when I was gonna jailbreak 1.1.2 it said my oktoprep wasnt working so I restored back to 1.1.1 using this guide. Just wanted to add thoo that after I did the appsnapp install it went back to the activation screen. Then after about 1min rebooted and went into DFU and then it keept rebooting about every 1-2mins. After maybe 20 reboots I finally i used the iphuc to "start in manually" and it went on and was jailbreaked :o Wasnt that a little weird?

well its too late now, but when you get that message you were suppose to use ibricker to boot it out of restore mode. and if you had a virgin 1.1.3 activation lockfile it would automatically activate after you ibricker booted it... restoring just messed it up and now you have to go all the way back to step 1 and do a DFU restore by holding the apple and home key for 20 seconds and restoring to 1.1.3

since you itunes restored to 1.1.3 you have 1.1.3 baseband / modem and you either have to do the 1.1.1 - 1.1.2 okto, 1.1.3 softupgrade dev team / lockdown patch OOOOR
you have to baseband reload to 1.1.1 up to you...

just remember that 1.1.3 baseband / modem software ONLY works with AT&T US and orange UK (legit subsriptions). all the sim / software unlocks are for 1.1.2.

I (accidently) used this guide for my 9otb 1.1.2 IPhone. Downgraded to 1.1.1., activated and jailbraked - everything fine.
Then I unfortunately tried installing the "baseband Downgrader" which (obviously) crashed on my otb 1.1.2. baseband.

From that point my baseband chip did not show any wifi or bluetooth.

After all this I thought I might be able to start from scrach, so I reloaded firmware 1.1.1. again. Right now the baseband is screwed and I have an iPhone showing the activation screen. I cant do the *#... call as the phone does not react properly to the tuch screen. on the activaion page it sais the phone needs repair....

I'm a bit of a newb here, so please bear with me. My girlfriend bought an 8 gig iPhone after one of the initial price drops. It had 1.0.2 firmware installed for the longest time. She decided she wanted to hack it at that point, and just ran the AppTapp install. She's been running it that way for a long time, and has been even afraid to sync it, afraid that iTunes would brick her phone.

Well, this past Friday she lost her phone on the D.C. Metro. Miraculously, a good Samaritan returned it to her, so she is overjoyed, but is suddenly aware of how much data she had on that phone and not backed up (contacts, calendar, photos).

Last night, I took it upon myself to learn the world of iPhone hacking. I discovered that unless she had iTunes run the update for her, she could safely backup her iPhone and sync it with iTunes on her iMac. Once I did that, I found a way to "virginize" her phone (http://iphone.unlock.no/#recovery-restore-mode), and I was able to bring it back to the virgin state, and proceeded to upgrade her firmware to 1.1.3. Everything worked hunky dorry, and she had a working iPhone with the newest firmware....just without all the apps she had spent so long collecting and getting used to.

So, I tried to figure out install AppTapp. Discovered it really doesn't have it's own self install anymore. So, I came across Jailbreak, which of course installs the Installer.app so she can have her applications back.

This is where I started having problems. I tried downgrading her phone through her iMac, and I got through the recovery process and the standard 1015 error you get from iTunes when you try to load 1.1.1. I then tried using the Java app Jailbreak, and all it would do is sit there and tell me "Waiting for Reboot".

After about an hour of this, I gave up on her Mac and tried to do it from my PC. I went through the same initial steps, tried running the AppTappInstaller, and it asked me to select one of three firmware versions, none of which she had. (Firmware 1.0.0, Firmware 1.0.1, and Firmware 1.0.2) This is during the interrupted software upgrade. I picked the first one, and it actually seemed to be working, but I kept getting an error about an unauthorized SIM card, even though she has an activated AT&T SIM. I went through the whole jailbreaking process, and it installed the installer.app & such over the WiFi, but at the end of it, I still had the AT&T SIM that would not be recognized.

When I hooked it back up to iTunes, iTunes would not recognize it, so the process seemed to be dead in the water.

Next, I again reverted to the recovery process, and tried running the Windows batch file included with the Mac Java Jailbreak software. Again, same thing, but I don't think I got nearly as far as I did before.

In the end, I had to interrupt the recovery process, because iTunes wouldn't even see it at one point, and move it back to her iMac, and start the recovery process over. Now, she is backed to an unhacked 1.1.3.

So, long story short, can anyone recommend a sure fire way to get from where she is (unhacked, firmware 1.1.3, to jailbreak 1.1.3) I know it's possible, but I'm missing something somewhere.
