Unlocking a OTB 1.1.1 that is already activated with AT&T

Have a friend with a 1.1.1 iPhone that he's using with AT&T but he'll like to unlock.

Just a quick question:

To unlock it for all GSM sims, do I need to restore?
Or simply:
1)go to safari
2) visit jailbreme.com to get Installer
3) install AnySIM, and run it?



And just to make sure, I know it's a stupid question... after unlocking with AnySim --it'll still work with AT&T correct?

iphone that has voice+data plan with AT&T, you can use jailbreakme.com to jailbreak and unlock with anySIM 1.1.
BUT .... jailbreakme.com will detect your AT&T subscription and will not replace the lockdownd file and therefore when you swap a non AT&T SIM, you may see the SIM error.

I don't know if that is still the case but a while back that was the thing.

I don't have an AT&T sub but if you do a DFU mode full restore of 1.1.1, I think you have to activate again. I can be wrong here. Anyway, if this is the case, you best choice is to use CARNAVAL 0.8 for jailbreak+activate+unlock. After that, your AT&T and non AT&T SIM will work.

what if I simply use jailbreakme.com to jailbreak and unlock with anysim, then use winSPC for the lockdown patch? Would that allow hot-swap of sims?

That's perfectly fine. The reason I said carnaval 0.8 because it does all of that for you. Plus jailbreakme.com has been unreliable in term of connectivity ... it may drive you nuts.

ps: I never like the hot-swap ... Just shutdown phone and change SIM. Just be safe than sorry.
